Forza Motorsport 4, the pinnacle of simulation racing on the Xbox 360
Forza Motorsport 4 is an excellent sim racing experience. It feels like more than just a video game. It excels in graphics, sound and gameplay. There is also a lot of content included with the game. There are also a few minor flaws in the game, but you will soon see that they affect game play minimally. Now on the meat of this review...
This is what video games are all about, and I must say, Forza Motorsport 4 does not fail to deliver. Each and every car that you drive will feel different. There are no other racing sim games that come close to delivering this type of immersion. The way it feels when you speed past your opponents or turn a sharp corner is amazing. This game is so realistic. You will find that your opponents will take drastic measures to take the prize. The controls are very well mapped. It feels very natural.
The game is so in depth. You can casually customize your car's cosmetics or even upgrade it's individual parts. You can then sell your customized car through the auction house in game.
There are 2 single player modes to play, World Tour and Event List. World Tour is traveling around the world facing rivals on famous tracks. Event List is a list of events that you can choose from. There are easily over 100 events that you can choose from here.
Multiplayer is just as good. It includes the auction house, car clubs, and racing. There are many fun and innovative modes to choose from. From Casual racing to Hardcore full simulation to a fun mode called Tag, the possibilities are endless.
10/10 That is final. Car models and tracks look absolutely stunning. Even when you pause and use camera mode to zoom in. Reflections and shadows are spot on. No jaggies or unnecessary glare. This is especially noticeable in the Autovista, an interactive tour of select cars, new and classic. Car models have a high polygon count. I think that FM4 has the most photorealistic graphics in an Xbox 360 game to this day.
Overall I think that this game is fully deserving of a 9/10 rating, not because of what the game executed poorly, but because of what was not there. Forza 4 is a strictly simulation game with no forgiveness for players unless they start turning on the assists. This is not a game flaw, but with gamers getting younger and younger all the time, I think this will put some people off.
