This is THE definitive version of Resident Evil 4.
As everyone knows, Resident Evil 4 first came out for the Gamecube and Capcom promised it would be an exclusive. Then a Playstation 2 port was announced and console fanboys started whining and having their typical forum arguments. In reality, Resident Evil 4 going multi-platform was the best possible thing that could have happened for that game. Without getting into all the boring details, we ended up with a definitive version with every extra in the book, and that version ended up on the Wii.
The first thing anyone will worry about with a Wii port is whether or not Nintendo will force-feed terrible motion controls into the game. Believe it or not, that isn't done here. All you have to do is unhook the nunchuck once the white warning screen is up and you can play the game with Old Reliable -- also known as the Gamecube controller. Not that the game tells you this anywhere in the options or anything, of course, but this is no surprise given what Nintendo has turned into. But fear not, for you can opt out. For what it's worth, the Wii version of this actually handles motion controls really well.
And with that said, the meat of RE4 is still here in all its glory. It's still the same game you'll remember, and arguably with the best graphics other than the PC version. But what makes this the winning version is all the extras paired with the main course. You have the main game, Assignment Ada, Separate Ways, some bonus movies, a movie viewer, Professional mode, and of course the almighty Mercenaries. There are a few gameplay tweaks here and there like prices on weapons and a few adjustments on enemy numbers, but it's nothing overly noticeable unless you know the game better than your own house.
If there is one flaw here, it's how they still don't have Professional unlocked from the start. You have to go through Normal mode to play RE4 as it was meant to be played, though an extra playthrough isn't a giant deal given this is arguably the best game released in the last 15 years.
So the short of it is unless there's some other version in the works, we've seen every release of RE4 there is and the Wii version is easily the best one due to having the most extras. If you've yet to play this game, the Wii version is the only one you really need unless you're into PC mods.
