Playing as Ray can be tougher than playing as Beck. Ray's health will constantly be draining. You will have to absorb the "Xel" from enemies to keep her alive. In this level, being fast is your friend. You also want to go for not taking much damage, as you will gain more points. Make sure to get the sprinter bonuses and the Quick Clears on the enemy wave arena parts. You will need around 70,000 Points to acquire an S-RANK in normal mode.
Some tips would be to constantly be dashing with Ray. Also, it is somewhat easier to chain enemies for an "excellent" or "wonderful" mini-combination with Ray. Do this by connecting into several enemies at once with Ray's dash before hitting the ground. This should help amp your score up a bit more. Don't forget to keep that combination going all the while defeating as many enemies as possible.
For the Boss, the fine plays are the same as Becks. The missile drop move is still easy, however I found the charge attack fine play to be more difficult. Once again in a very well designed platformer like Mighty No.9, practice makes perfect for the S-RANK.

Pyrogen's ability or variation code is called Ignite Gear when acquired by Ray. It looks similar to Beck's Pyrogen ReXelection ability. However it acts rather different, as it can be used as a stand-by attack. In stand-by mode any object or enemy that comes into contact with Ray will cause the fire to burst into action. Alternatively you can cast the attack yourself, but this is still interesting and rather useful. The main problem with the ability is that it seems to use tons of your ability meter with each use.

As Ray, this ability turns into a crystal ball that will bounce around an area. Just like as Beck if an enemy is frozen by the ice of cryosphere the player will have a longer time to absorb 100% of the Xel energy from that frozen enemy. This is very useful when going for high combinations, especially to give you a slight edge in time.

The Gatling Gun is the variation code that will/can be absorbed after defeating Battalion as Ray. Once Battalion is defeated and you gain this code, Ray gains a machine gun like ability. The weapon can break large boulders and many obstacles that several basic attacks can not. It is similar to Beck's, Beck Buster in appearance except it is more powerful and fires off three shots at once in rapid succession.

This ability can be shot vertically as well as horizontally. It attacks and retracts making it possible to hit an enemy twice with one shot. You will gain this ability after defeating Seismic of the mine level and absorbing his variation code. The weapon can also attach to certain obstacles and once attached Ray will hoist herself onto the platform or object.
Mine - Normal Mode - Ray:
- Battalion [ Machine Gun ]
- Pyrogen [ Ignite Gear ]
- Ray's Claw
Seismic's level or better known as the Mine level is a huge spike in difficulty and one of the hardest levels in the game. There are plenty of one-shot kills, mainly due to the electrical purple spikes all over the level. The giant rotating drills can one shot kill ray or beck. As Ray the level increases in difficulty as since your health will be draining the enemies in the level also become more a noteworthy problem.
One area to have a major note, is the platform that you must "hang" on. There is a platform that runs directly into some purple spikes. This is all going on while the giant drill is burrowing at Beck through the tunnels. The player must hang from the platform than drop down. Dashing through this point will not work. As an extra note there is a small health pack with a smiling face to the left of our objective platform. After completing this section, the level is still pretty tough. However, it is one of the more notable difficulty spikes in the level/game. Seismic level is tough, this game can be tough so hang in there you are not the only one.
