This was one of few games developed by a third party for the TurboGrafx-16 that was released in the United States. The game however was still published by NEC, as evidenced by the "92218" in the UPC number.
The game's music was composed by Frank Klepacki, best-known for composing the Command & Conquer franchise. He called the game one of the lowest points in his career due to the limitations of the TurboGrafx-16's sound capabilities, which made composing the music very difficult for him.
The front cover art is called "Spellfire" and was illustrated by Clyde Caldwell, famous for his fantasy artwork with TSR in the 1980s.
