  • Chain Fishing for Brilliant Pokémon

Fishing can increase your chances of encountering Brilliant Pokémon (Pokémon giving off a yellow aura, which know an Egg Move). Differing from standard Encounter Chaining, the number of times you've battled any one specie won't matter at all for fishing; instead, you'll simply need to defeat as many Pokémon consecutively as you can, no matter which specie appears.

The chain will break if you fail to reel a Pokémon in, if you catch a Pokémon, run away from a Pokémon, leave the area or turn off your game.

The number of successful hooks goes towards your chances of encountering a Brilliant Pokémon, and the thresholds are as follows.

  • Increasing the chances of wild Brilliant and Shiny Pokémon

The Pokédex keeps track of the number of times you've defeated or caught a certain specie of Pokémon in the wild; this number goes towards your chances of encountering a wild Brilliant Pokémon (Pokémon giving off a yellow aura, which know an Egg Move) and Shiny Pokémon (Pokémon with a different, rarer color palette than usual) of that specie.

However, apparently due to a bug, this increased chance only actually takes place a small percentage of the time; for example, the 6x likelihood for 500 Encounters only gets applied 3% of the time.

Secrets

  • Avoid Berry Tree Encounters

When you find a Berry tree, shake down some berries, and note the leaves of the tree when you're prompted to shake it again. Sometimes, they will begin shaking. If the leaves are shaking fast, then there's a chance that the next time you shake it, you'll fight a wild Pokemon and lose some of the berries. If the leaves are shaking slowly or not at all, then you're safe to shake it again and get more berries. (There are only those three types of shaking: no shaking, slow shaking, and fast shaking.)

  • Wild Area Weather Control.

Under normal circumstances the weather in the Wild Area is completely random, which can make hunting for certain Pokemon which only spawn under specific weather conditions a frustrating experience. Fortunately, the weather can be altered by changing the date on your Nintendo Switch under System Settings using the dates specified below, presented in the following format: MM/DD/YY. (Time is irrelevant unless the Pokemon you're hunting spawns exclusively during day or night.)

    02/01/20XX - Snowstorm*
    03/01/20XX - Cloudy
    04/01/20XX - Sandstorm*
    05/01/20XX - Clear
    06/01/20XX - Fog*
    07/01/20XX - Sunny
    10/01/20XX - Rain
    11/01/20XX - Thunderstorm
    12/01/20XX - Snow

    * The following weather conditions are unattainable until you've passed the following milestones: Sandstorm and Snowstorm = 4 Gym Badges Earned, Fog = Galar Pokemon League Champion Title Earned.

WARNING: Changing the date on your Switch will reset the timer on any active Pokejobs.

Enemy/Boss Tips

  • Multi-hit Moves vs Dynamaxed/Gigantamaxed Pokémon

Normally, when a Max Raid Dynamaxed/Gigantamaxed Pokémon raises a shield, only the first hit in a multi-hit Move breaks part of the barrier; however, when a multi-hit attack breaks the last fragment of the barrier and therefore the shield as a whole, the subsequent hits do damage normally, taking into account the reduced defenses (unless the Raid Pokémon has Contrary) caused by the shield breaking. This can bring the Max Raid Pokémon down to the next shield threshold or even defeat them outright (if the destroyed shield was the final one) without waiting an additional turn.

    Contributed By: Andrex_93.

    0    0

  • One-Hit KO Moves against Max Raid Pokémon

Against Dynamaxed/Gigantamaxed Pokémon, there are certain Moves that outright do not work, among which there are the One-Hit KO Moves (so the Moves that fully deplete the target's HP regardless of your own offensive Stats or their defensive ones), like Horn Drill or Fissure.

However, there is an exception where this category of Moves actually works against such Pokémon: in Max Raid Battles, *only when the Max Raid Pokémon has a shield up*, if you manage to land these Moves, 2 fractions of the barrier will be depleted, instead of the usual 1; other than using a Max Move yourself, this is the only other way to destroy 2 fractions of the shield in one blow, potentially making the battle go faster.

Note that, if you use these Moves against the Raid Pokémon when it doesn't have a shield up, the Move will not work, just like when it's used against a Dynamaxed/Gigantamaxed Pokémon in a non-Max Raid Battle, so only use this to break shields faster.

  • Stopping Wild Ditto in Max Raid Battles from transforming into a Dynamaxed/Gigantamaxed Pokémon

Normally, in Ditto Max Raid Battles, the Wild Ditto transforms into a Pokémon the participants are using at random, but in its Dynamax Form, making the battle more challenging and take longer to complete; however, this process can be stopped if all participants use Pokémon that cannot Dynamax, therefore the Ditto cannot transform into a Dynamax version of them, meaning it keeps its very low Stats and cannot even attack, making the Max Raid Battle much easier and quicker to complete; these Pokémon are Zacian, Zamazenta and Eternatus.
