Island Life
Events
Throughout the week - and even year - certain events will take place for maximum enjoyment of your island life. Events can be weekly or seasonal.
Bug-Off!
Seasonal event - available on the fourth Saturday of the designated months, from 9AM until 6PM in both hemispheres
Bug-Off Event Availability
- Northern Hemisphere: Fourth Saturday in June, July, August, and September
- Southern Hemisphere: Fourth Saturday in December, January, February, and March
When the Bug-Off event is available on your island, you'll find Flick stationed next to a pop-up canopy at the island plaza, promoting the event. The event tests your ability to catch as many bugs as possible within three minutes. You can participate in the event as many times as you'd like during the event window. The first entry fee is waived each subsequent participation will cost 500 Bells.
To best prepare for this event, equip a net prior to speaking with Flick. Immediately after speaking with Flick to start the event, begin running in search of bugs - as you'll have approximately three free seconds to run before the timer starts. The best place to find bugs are near bloomed flowers and sources of water - especially ponds. Tree trunks also provide a valuable source for bugs, such as cicadas and other beetles that tend to rest on them.
One of the best methods for catching a lot of bugs is to use a spoiled turnip to help you spawn bugs. Ants are far easier to catch than some other bugs like dragonflies and pondskaters, and it's entirely possible to catch over 10 bugs each run using the turnip. It may be possible to use multiple spoiled turnips to increase your chances of bug spawns, but I haven't fully confirmed this.
At the end of the three minutes, return to Flick to conclude the event. Each bug you catch is worth one point, and you'll get a bonus two points if you manage to catch three or more. These points are used to acquire event-exclusive items that cannot be purchased anywhere else. Every 10 points will earn you one of 13 unique items from the event, and you'll receive additional prizes in the mail for accumulating a set number of points. After your points have been added to your total, go to the bug cage under the canopy and retrieve any bugs you don't want to sell, donate, or otherwise keep. Any bugs you sell to Flick will be worth 1.5 times their normal price.
Here is a list of items you can acquire from the event. As previously mentioned, these items are exclusive to this event and cannot be obtained by any other means. Additional information about these items can be found in the Items section.
- Artisanal Bug Cage
- Bug Aloha Shirt
- Bug Cage
- Bug Wand
- Butterflies Wall
- Butterfly Backpack
- Ladybug Rug
- Ladybug Umbrella
- Spider Doorplate
- Spider Web

For accumulating a set number of points throughout the event, you'll receive a bug trophy to commemorate certain milestones. You can receive a Bronze, Silver, and Gold Bug Trophy for acquiring 100, 200, and 300 total points, respectively.
Bunny Day Event
Limited-time event - available from April 1 through Easter in both hemispheres (date subject to change based on actual holiday)
Bunny Day is a limited-time event that commemorates Easter in the real world. This event runs for approximately two weeks before Easter and concludes on Easter Sunday - check your local calendar for exact dates.
Speak to Zipper, who will tell you that there are six different types of eggs to collect, as well as a host of different DIY recipes scattered among the island. What's more, if you can collect the recipes and craft at least one of every item available, you'll get a special treat. To get you started, he'll give you one of the recipes you need to complete this event. Other recipes can be found by talking to villagers, shooting down rainbow-colored balloons, or receiving them from Egg Message Bottles.
Note: The following recipes can only be obtained by meeting certain criteria:
- Egg-themed outfit items (earth, leaf, sky, stone, water, wood) can be acquired by collecting at least 10 of their respective egg types.
- Egg Party Dress and Egg Party Hat can be acquired by collecting at least 10 of each egg type.
- Bunny Day Bed and Bunny Day Arch can only be acquired by speaking to Zipper on the first and last days of the event, respectively.

Additionally, you'll find cherry blossom petals drifting about the island which can be captured and used for time-limited crafting recipes. Use a net to capture these petals, but be careful: much like bugs, if you miss capturing a petal, it will likely disappear.

Fireworks Show
Limited-time event - available every Sunday in August, starting at 7PM in both hemispheres
Every Sunday evening, take part in viewing a spectacular fireworks show on your island. Starting at 7PM, you'll see fireworks light up the night sky, and all of your island's residents will be out and about taking in the sights.
At the Island Plaza, you'll find Redd set up with a raffle booth, where you can pay 500 Bells to receive a random item. Items that can be received are sparklers, bubble blowers, fireworks, balloons, and more.
Isabelle will also be present at this event, allowing you to create your own custom fireworks display. To do this, speak with Isabelle, who will allow you to select up to eight different custom designs to be used in the display. After confirming your selections, look to the skies to see the results of your creation. You can do this as many times as you'd like.
Fishing Tourney
Seasonal event - available on the second Saturday of the designated month for each season, from 9AM until 6PM in both hemispheres
Fishing Tourney Event Availability
- Spring: Second Saturday in April (northern) / October (southern)
- Summer: Second Saturday in July (northern) / January (southern)
- Fall: Second Saturday in October (northern) / April (southern)
- Winter: Second Saturday in January (northern) / July (southern)
When the fishing tournament is available on your island, you'll find C.J. stationed next to a pop-up canopy at the island plaza, promoting the event. The event tests your ability to catch as many fish as possible within three minutes. You can participate in the event as many times as you'd like during the event window. The first entry fee is waived; each subsequent participation will cost 500 Bells.
To best prepare for this event, have a solid supply of fish bait on hand, which can be crafted from clams dug up along the beach. Prior to actually starting the event, have your fishing rod equipped - preferrably a brand new one that will survive at least 8 successful catches - and have your cursor hovering over your fish bait in your pockets. When the event starts, immediately run to the nearest body of water, preferrably the ocean. If a fish is nearby, then great! Try to catch it before using your bait. Otherwise, use your fish bait to summon a fish and catch it.
At the end of the three minutes, return to C.J. to conclude the event. Each fish you catch is worth one point, and you'll get a bonus two points if you manage to catch more than 3 fish. These points are used to acquire event-exclusive items that cannot be purchased anywhere else. Every 10 points will earn you one of 13 unique items from the event, and you'll receive a prize in the mail after accumulating a set number of points. After your points have been added to your account, go to the cooler under the canopy and retrieve any fish you don't want to sell, donate, or otherwise keep. Any fish you sell to C.J. will net you 1.5 times the normal price.
Here is a list of the items you can acquire from this event. Again, these items are exclusive to this event - you cannot buy them from Nook Shopping, nor will they ever appear in Nook's Cranny. If you're hell-bent on farming this event for all of its worth (and there's plenty of it), keep one of each item and sell the rest. The list of items you can acquire during this event are below; for more information about each item, see the Items

May Day
Limited-time event - Available May 1 through May 7 in both hemispheres
The May Day event is a limited event that allows you a one-time opportunity to take a unique Mystery Island tour.
During the event period, speak with Tom Nook to receive a May Day Ticket for use at the Airport. Go to the airport and speak with Orville, who will allow you to use the the ticket to participate in the event. There is no need to empty your inventory for this event, as Orville will store all of your items at the airport until you return back to your island.
When you arrive, you'll find yourself on a unique Mystery Island, but there's a catch - the island has been transformed into a maze. Having brought nothing with you, you'll need to utilize all of the items you find throughout the maze in a precise manner such that you can receive all of the available rewards.
For reference, I have created a simple overhead map of the maze for you to follow, using the steps below.
- Start by grabbing the shovel (1) and using it to dig up the shrub (2) that is blocking a piece of fruit (3).
- Dig up the tree (4) blocking the route and go north and then west, ignoring the path that goes east. Jump over the pits and grab the tree branch (5). Continue down the path and jump over the next two pits.
- Grab another tree branch (6) and pick up the Worn Axe (7). Retreat and pick up another tree branch (8) and stone (9).
- Reverse your route, stopping to chop down the tree (10) blocking the path to another tree branch (11) and two more pieces of fruit (12).
- Return to the eastern path you previously ignored and grab the three pieces of wood (13).
- Reverse your route again, returning to series of three pits spaced one square apart. Jump across the first pit and pick up the tree branch (14).
- Continue down this path and jump the pit. Eat one of your fruits and use your shovel to break the rock (15) blocking access to an Iron Nugget (16).
- Reverse your path all the way to where you picked up the wood (13) and eat another piece of fruit to break the rock (17). Grab the fruit (18) and eat it to dig up the tree (19) blocking access to a Simple DIY Workbench and two DIY recipes (20).
- Use the DIY recipes to learn how to craft a Flimsy Axe and an Axe (if you haven't already learned them), and use the adjacent workbench to craft these items. First craft the Flimsy Axe, then craft the Axe.
- Retreat along the path and jump across the series of three pits to chop down a tree (21) blocking access to two more pieces of fruit (22).
- Return to the area of the Iron Nugget (16) and use the axe to chop down the tree (23).
- Continue on along the path and pick up another piece of fruit (24). Jump across the pit and use the axe to chop down three trees (25).
- Speak with Rover (26) and receive Rover's Briefcase.
- Use your shovel to dig up the shrub (27) that is blocking two Bell Vouchers (28). Use your shovel again to dig up two more shrubs (29).
- Follow the path along the outside of the maze and eat all of your fruit (you should have three left) to break the rocks (30) that are blocking off five more Bell Vouchers (31).
- Finally, dig up the shrubs (32), jump the pit, and dig up the last shrub (33) to reach the starting point.

Wedding Season
Limited-time event - Available June 1 through June 30 in both hemispheres
Fly to Harv's Island to participate in this event. For this event, your job is to help Harv take photos for Cyrus and Reese's anniversary photo shoot.
Upon arrival, you'll witness some chatter between Harvey, Cyrus and Reese discussing problems with the photo shoot. Harvey will ask for your help decorating the wedding set such that the photo shoots can occur. Each day of the event, Reese will inform you of the photo theme she would like to recreate, be it either ceremony or reception.
Using the theme and tips from Reese, decorate the studio using furniture from your catalog (it doesn't cost anything and can be customized free of charge) in a manner that you feel most conforms to the theme. Additional points are awarded if you use items that match the theme, as well as items customized by Cyrus. When you're satisfied, speak with Reese and she'll ask you to take the photo for her. Press the ZL Button to enter the Camera App, customize the photo layout to your liking and capture the photo. If you capture multiple photos, only the last photo will be used for grading.
For the purposes of grading, the process is fairly simple: use as many items from the Event tab in the room decorator. Use items that correspond to the theme for the day, such as using the wedding benches when the theme is ceremony. After grading, you are rewarded with Heart Crystals that can be exchanged for limited-time furniture and clothing. For the first 5 photo shoots you complete, the number of Heart Crystals you can receive as a reward is capped at 11; the cap is increased to 15 every day thereafter.
In addition to the Heart Crystals you receive, you'll be given an item from Cyrus, according to the following list:
- Day One: Wedding Bench
- Day Two: Wedding Table
- Day Three: Wedding Flower Stand
- Day Four: Wedding Head Table
- Day Five: Wedding Pipe Organ
- Day Six: Wedding Arch
- Day Seven: Reese & Cyrus Photo Plate
Lastly, speak with Harvey on your seventh day of the shoot to receive the DIY recipe for a wedding fence; complete your seventh photo shoots and you'll receive the wedding wand DIY recipe.
The limited-time items that can be obtained from this event are listed below. Because these items can be purchased using the Heart Crystals received from this event, additional information about these items has been included.
