why does Esbern keep following me instead of reading the wall?

  1. So basically I'm doing the alduin's wall quest and instead of reading the wall, Esbern is following me. I think it might have to do with the fact that instead of doing the campaign normally, I broke into the Thalmor place as soon as possible and took the Dossier on Esbern.

    Does anybody know a fix to this?

  1. Since you have both Delphine and Esbern following you, making any kind of side trip is not advised because of the numerous bugs about both of them. If possible, reload a save before you started the quest. Redo the whole talk with Delphine and Esbern and walk with them to the temple, no fast traveling. There no need to worry about them dying because they're essentials, but they have a tendency to get lost so save a lot during this quest on separate save files.

  2. I tried reloading a save, but for some reason, despite me having definately had plenty of saves before, the only saves I have are all in Sky Haven Temple.
