Play NES Golf (not available in v4.0.0+)
When the Nintendo Switch console has its date set to June 11th, and the console is at the home menu, perform this gesture with your Joycon controllers: one in each hand, hold them at about face level, as far apart as your face is wide, and then gently thrust them forward.
This will allow you to play a hidden version of the NES title Golf. This was an easter egg made to celebrate the late Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who passed away on June 11th, 2015. Golf was one of many NES games he worked on. The gesture one uses to cause the hidden game is Iwata's signature gesture from Nintendo Directs he was filmed in.
Take note that this was patched out in the v4.0.0 update.
While the system is powered off, hold the Volume Up/Down buttons down together at the same, and continue holding them while turning on the console until the maintenance applet appears. Here, you can update your console through the internet, or format/initialize the console (with you keeping or deleting user info, e.g. saves and screenshots). In version 1.0.0, this was known as Maintenance Mode.
Safe Mode (version 4.0.0+)
While the system is powered off, hold the Volume Down button. Press the Power Button, then after a second let go of the Volume Down button, and then begin holding the Volume Up button until a few seconds after the Nintendo logo appears on-screen. This results in minimally booting the system and automatically checking for an update to the firmware, downloading it if possible, before booting normally.
Alternate Unlock Sound Effects
When waking a Nintendo Switch from sleep mode while it is not connected to the dock, you will have to press a single button three times to fully unlock it for play. (It doesn't matter which one you use.) Most buttons will provide a standard "click" sound effect when you press them, but using certain buttons will provide alternate sound effects. The ZL and ZR buttons both have unique effects if used, as well as if you click in either the left or right analogue sticks three times to unlock.
