It's The Legendary Sword- Excalibur!!! And, King Arthur too!!!

Legend says that the man who removes ''Excalibur'' from the stone is destined to be the king. One day, while training to be a knight, Arthur pulled the sword from the stone and so our story begins...

Well, i suppose you can guess what is happening on. Yes, it is King Arthur. His legendary sword, ''Excalibur'' is so famous throughout the world that the name is even used as a sword in some RPGs today. [Anyone mentions about Final Fantasy?]

Well, Knights Of the Round is a side-scroller game, and in a few ways, resembles Final Fight. There are three characters in the game, naming Arthur, Lancelot and Percival. However, it supports only up to a maximum of two players. Find a friend and choose any two characters that you like out of this three characters.

Well, like most other similar games, you need to hack enemies along the way, search for barrels to find golds or any item that can recover your HP. At the end of each round, there will be a boss for you to fight. And, if there's any horse nearby, go ahead and ride it if noone is riding on it. Simple, right? But, that's not all.

You have the usual buttons like attack, jump and so on. And then, there is also a special attack calleed M. Crush, which can be performed by pressing the A button. If you perform an M. Crush and it hits one or more enemies, you will recieve some damage. Why? Because it's your special attack. Okay, fine! It seems like most other similar games also introduce this concept. However, i expect the special attacks to be more impressive. Anyway, never mind! These still do fine for me!

But, what really separate Knight Of the Round from other similar genre games are because of the distinctive characters and the levelling system. Each character, depending on which you choose, has different attacking style. For example, Arthur is specialised in swords [anyone mentions Excalibur?] while Percival is specialised in axes. As you fight your enemies, obtaining golds and so on, you gain points, or in other words, experience. You should notice a word saying Next Level or something like this... Once you have accumulated enough points through hacking enemies, obtaining golds and so on, you will gain a level. Pretty cool, right? Furthermore, at certain levels, the character will change his appearance. A welcome and nice addition, right?

After reading GlucoseJoe's Knight Of the Round review, i do agree with him. The ability to upgrade weapon and armour adds on to a more rewarding experience. And, luckily, Knight Of the Round has it in a way. When characters reach a certain level, their weapons and armours also change. Like what GlucoseJoe has stated as an example, king Arthur starts off with an average-looking armour and sword and when he reaches level 16, he has a better-looking armour that looks more tougher and a bigger Excalibur.

The graphics are generally quite good. The backgrounds are pretty nice and detailed. The characters' animation is quite smooth. In my personal opinion, most of the enemies look pretty nice like Golems and so on. However, i can't deny that several images of the enemies are recycled. They look almost identical, except for some colour differences of their skin textures or perhaps with a few differences in detail. For example, some may carry this or wear that, while similar-looking enemies don't. As for the final boss, i expect something more cooler.

The music is generally quite good as the tunes create some sort of medievil atmosphere. The themes fit the game pretty well. As for the sound effects, it is generally quite well done. The clanking sounds produced by the weapons can be heard pretty clearly. When someone is dead, they will scream in agony, saying, ''argh!'' When the characters scored a victory, they will shout out their own quotation. For example, Arthur will say something like, ''Excalibur!''

Overall, the game is pretty fiendishly fun as an action game, especially with two players together. You probably be competing against your friend to see who can gain more bonus point, and of course, who gains levels the fastest. There's enough stages and any hardcore fan will undoubtedly be satisfied. Generally, Knights Of the Round is a decent game worth buying.
