WALKTHROUGH (Continued)

Dealing with Echidna

Your main objective here, again, depends on your alignment. Chaos path players are here to report the death of Haniel and support the Gaian leader. Law path players, on the otherhand, are here to stop the Gaian leader from interrupting progress on the construction of the Cathedral. Neutral players are here to keep either side from gaining an upper hand.

Return to Echidna's room. Before entering, prepare your party for a boss fight if you are Law or Neutral aligned. Enter to room to speak with Echidna again. The interaction, again, depends on your alignment:

Law Path

Since you agreed to help the Law Hero, Echidna will recognize that you are not here to assist her, despite what the Chaos Hero told her. As punishment, she decides to tear you limb from limb. Continue the walkthrough below at the Vile Echidna boss section.

Chaos Path

Echidna congratulates you on defeating Haniel and tells you that the Gaians are about to mount an assault on the Great Cathedral itself. She then asks if you would be willing to lend your aid to the Gaian effort in preventing the Messians from summoning God. Since you are following the Chaos Path, agree to her request. You will gain a massive shift towards Chaos, and be semi-locked into it.

Echidna then creates a bridge from Tokyo Destiny Land to the Great Cathedral. Before doing that, however, you will want to fully lock in to the Chaos Path by being baptized into the Gaian Cult. Pick up this walkthrough at the Baptism of Faith chapter.

Neutral Path

Echidna congratulates you on defeating Haniel and tells you that the Gaians are about to mount an assault on the Great Cathedral itself. She then asks if you would be willing to lend your aid to the Gaian effort in preveting the Messians from summoning God. Since you don't want to assist one side over the other, decline her request for help. An enraged Echidna decides that you aren't obeying her commands, and in punishment will rend you limb from limb. Continue the walkthrough below at the Vile Echidna boss section.

Vile Echidna
Level: 81
HP: 1920
MP: 200

EXP: 1296
£: 3888
MAG: 1620
ITEM: Soma

Abilities:
Attack (~130 Physical damage, hits 2-4 characters)
Paralysis Bite (~165 Physical damage, inflicts Paralysis at ~33%)
Gas Breath (~35 Poison damage, inflicts Poison, hits 2-3)
Maha-Bufula (~50 Ice MT damage, inflicts Freeze at 95%)

Strategy: Echidna is pretty pathetic. Paralysis Bite is her best attack, but she only uses it once in a blue moon. Her physical attack isn't bad, but intelligent use of Me-Dia and Diarahan is more than enough to handle it. As for dealing with her, have the Main Hero use Sword attacks, and have your demons use their Attack command or their Extra if it is physical. Magic is pretty ineffective against Echidna, as she immunes many elements, and reduces the damage of the rest. Echinda is immune to normal Gun damage, but Magic Shells deal Charm damage, which Echidna only halves; it's still better to use Sword attacks as your Gun attack with Magic Shells will only deal 30-40 damage.

Since Echidna lacks any real effective status effects, just pressure her with damage and healing, and you should be fine.

After defeating Echidna, your path to the Great Cathedral differs depending on if you are Law or Neutral aligned.

Law Path

Law path players will want to return to the Law Hero to report the death of Echidna. Return to the Law Hero's room in Shinagawa to give the news to the Law Hero. He'll be overjoyed at your success and call in the current overseer of the Messian Church at Shinagawa, the Angel Haniel. Haniel will thank you for defeating Echidna and ask you if you want to continue working in the service of God. Answer yes, since you are following the Law path. You will gain a massive shift towards the Law alignment and be semi-locked in to it.

Haniel will grant you access to the Great Cathedral by creating a bridge to the east of Shinagawa. Before doing that, however, you will want to fully lock in to the Law Path by being baptized into the Messian Church. Pick up this walkthrough at the Baptism of Faith chapter.

Neutral Path

With Haniel and Echidna both dead, it may seem that all doors to the Great Cathedral have been shut. Not quite. If you did any exploring way back in Ginza, you may have found the old man from Inogashira Park, who said to visit him if all other paths seemed closed. Well, this would seem to be such a time, wouldn't you say?

Continue reading the walkthrough below at the next section: The Path Less Travelled - Neutral Path Only.

The Path Less Travelled - Neutral Path Only

Since you've slain the two leaders who have direct access to the Great Cathedral, you'll need to find an alternative entrance. Toraport to a Terminal, then Transmit to Ginza. In Ginza, you want first head to Ginza - Basement Two, then take the stairs at reference point B3 to Basement Three.

Path to the Cathedral.
Map Legend
OM = Old Man
MI = Magic Incense
Sa = Sapphire
Tr = Trapped Treasure
GX = Staircase Exit to Ginza B2
B2-1 = Staircase to Cathedral Path B2-1
B3 = Staircase to Cathedral Path B3
B1 = Staircase to Cathedral Path B1
B2-1 = Staircase to Cathedral Path B2-1
B2-2 = Staircase to Cathedral Path B2-2
B1 = Staircase to Cathedral Path B1
CX = Staircase Exit to the Great Cathedral B1

This path is relatively short, overall. Starting from the stairwell to Ginza (reference point GX), head on over to reference point OM to speak with the old man from Inogashira Park. He'll congratulate you for being able to maintain such a narrow path of neutrality. He'll further state that regardless of who wins between the Messians and Gaians, humanity will suffer. To that end, he opens up the path behind him to the Great Cathedral so that you may put an end to the conflict.

B3: Follow the path east behind the old man to a stairwell (reference point B2-1), and take it to Basement 2-1.

B2-1: Follow the path east, ignoring the alcove to the north, then the alcove to the south. Head up another stairwell (reference point B1) to Basement One.

B1: First, pick up the Magic Incense at the reference point MI, then continue along to reference point Sa to collect a Sapphire. The head to the stairwell at reference point B2-2 to head down to Basement Two (again).

B2-2: Follow the path southwest to the stairwell, and head up the stairs at reference point CX to the Great Cathedral.

The Great Cathedral B1: You are now in the Great Cathedral. You can use the map at The Great Cathedral - First Floor/Basement One, Part One section for reference if you wish. Follow the long corridor until you hear the voice from the Law and Chaos Heroes to your left and right. Talk to both the Law Hero (right/south) and the Chaos Hero (left/north) to learn about the Shiten-Ou, the Four Heavenly Kings who protect Tokyo.

Unlike the other two paths, you don't have a Baptism to participate in (at least not yet...). As such, skip the Baptism of Faith chapter below and pick up the walkthrough again with The Four Heavenly Kings chapter.

Baptism of Faith

So you've killed either Haniel or Echidna, a massive boon to your respective allies, but you've actually never been formally indoctrinated into the tenets of the group you are aiding. It's high time you corrected that deficiency.

Law path players will want to read the Messian Baptism section below.

Chaos path players will want to skip down to the Gaian Baptism section and begin reading from there.

As mentioned, Neutral players do not have a baptism, and as such should continue the main walkthrough at The Four Heavenly Kings chapter.

Messian Baptism

First things first, if you're using the English translation patch and using an SNES emulator, you'll need to make a save state here. Load up a clean, *unpatched*, ROM and load that save state. Now return to the room where you talked to Law Hero and Haniel, and you'll see an old man. He'll ask you if you want to be baptised into the Messian Faith. Since the text is either gibberish or Japanese, you'll want to chose the top choice (which is "yes"). After the baptism, create another save state and load the English patched ROM back up.

Note

What happens if you don't load a clean ROM? Haniel shows up during the baptism, annoyed that you're too Chaotic and you end up killing Haniel, ruining any chance of doing the baptism. This is clearly a bug of some sort caused by the English patch, as he'll attack you even if you're pure Law.

After completing the baptism, you'll need to get your Main Hero's level up to 65. Hopefully you're in the low 60s already, so this shouldn't take *too* long. The best places to gain experience are Tokyo Destiny Land or the Four Mansions. Either warp to Ikebukuro and go to the city map to reach the North Mansion, or warp directly to T.D.L. I prefer the Mansions, simply because Succubi are incredibly annoying and slow the process down.

After reaching level 65, return to Shinagawa and go back to main chamber on the third floor. The Head Priest will tell you that you've become a great warrior for God and that some heavenly armor has been sent down to aid you. The sealed doors on this floor are now open, allowing you to collect this set of armor.

Exit the main chamber, then head east through the door to the long hallway. Go south one space, then turn west and head through the door, then go past the metal door. Continue down the short hall to find a chest containing the Jesus Gloves.

Exit back to the north-south hallway, then turn north and go through the one-way door. Turn east and go forward to the first door on the south wall. Continue past the second metal door and continue south to the chest containing the Jesus Armor.

Exit back to the east-west hallway, then turn west and go through the one-way door. Turn south and go forward to the first door on the east wall. Turn east and go through the door, past the metal door, and to the chest to collect the Jesus Helm.

Exit back to the north-south hall, then turn south and head through the one-way door. Turn east and go forward to the first door on the north wall. Turn north and go through the door and through the final metal door to the chest to find the Jesus Leggings.

Now that we're fully decked out in our holy armor (why couldn't they have called it Armor of Faith instead of Jesus armor?), it's time to check out the Cathedral. Exit Shinagawa, and you'll be back on the city map.

From the city map, head south from Shinagawa, then east around the purple tube. Once clear of the tube, head north to the bridge, then cross the bridge to the east. On the other side of the bridge, you will see a massive white building. This is the Great Cathedral...no wonder why it took so many workers so long to build this thing. Now you just need to find an entrance to enter this massive monument. From the bridge, head south-east and you'll come to a yellow building. Enter the yellow building, and you'll find yourself in the golden halls of the Cathedral.

Great Cathedral - Messian Headquarters

Head due north from the entryway into a hallway and you'll meet the Law Hero again. It appears there is more interference preventing the creation of the 1000 Year Kingdom. This time, it is due to four demons who protect Tokyo with some sort of barrier.

Before that, let's do some shopping. First, it's time to get the best guns money can buy. From the entrance to the Cathedral, go north two spaces, then turn west and go forward all the way to the wall. Turn north and go through the door to the Weapon shop. Purchase two Rail Guns--the insane costs of these guns is why I didn't have you buy any new weapons or armor since Ikebukuro. Hopefully you have 500-600k L right now, so picking up two Rail Guns shouldn't be hard. Now, you have a choice of what Ammo to use, depending on your personal playstyle. Magic Shells have the best status effect, but the lowest attack power, Medusa Shells offer the best balance between status effects (Stone) and damage, while Happy Shells have horrible status (Happy is useless) but the best damage. After you're through picking up weapons and any new ammo, exit the store.

From the weapon store, go east a space then north though the door to the Armor shop. Pick up a Sturm Helm and Sturm Leggings and equip them on the Heroine.

Save your game at the nearby Terminal so you can easily return to the Cathedral later.

With your new equipment, it's time to take on the Shiten-Ou, the four demons who are protecting Tokyo. Pick up the walkthrough again at The Four Heavenly Kings.

Gaian Baptism

As you may have learned from your explorations, Ueno is the location of the main Gaian Temple. Your objective here is to meet with the Gaian High Priest, be baptised into the Gaian Church, and collect the ultimate set of armor for the Chaos Path: the Tenma gear.

Ueno - Second Floor

Ueno (Second Floor).
Map Legend
A1 = One-way warp to A2

Ga = Tenma Gauntlet (Chaos Only)
Ar = Tenma Armor (Chaos Only)
He = Tenma Helmet (Chaos Only)
1 = Stairs to Ueno First Floor
3 = Stairs to Ueno Third Floor

From the stairwell at reference point 1, head to the teleport point at reference point A1 to be teleported to the room at reference point A2. Now head to the warp at reference point B1 to be warped to the room at reference point B2.

From here, make your way to the stairwell at reference point 3. Take care not to accidently run into the warps at A1 or B1, as they are near the stairs. You may also notice a sealed door just north and west of B2. This leads to the Tenma gear, but you cannot open it yet. Take the stairs at 3 to reach the Third Floor.

Ueno - Third Floor

Ueno (Third Floor).
Map Legend
A1 = One-way warp to A2
B1 = One-way warp to B2
C1 = One-way warp to C2
D1 = One-way warp to D2
R = Ruby
P = Gaian High Priest
2 = Stairs to Ueno Second Floor
Red = Chaos Floor Trap

From the stairwell, follow the only path available and you'll run into the warp at reference point A1, landing at reference point A2. From reference point A2, make your way to the far southwest corner of the floor and trek east across two Chaos Floor Traps (and since you are Chaos-aligned, they shouldn't hurt your party too badly). Make your way to the warp at reference point C1 to be teleported to C2. Continue along the path to the warp at reference point D1 to warp to D2. From D2 you can finally reach the Gaian High Priest at reference point P.

The Gaian High Priest will offer to initiate you into the Gaian church if you are strongly Chaos-aligned. Accept his offer and your alignment will shift to full Chaos.

Once you are level 65, return to the Gaian High Priest.

This is another area where the translation patch will glitch. If you have the patch installed, the Priest will do nothing more than complement you for speading Chaos. If you load an unpatched ROM, then enter the High Priest's room, the Priest will open up the sealed door on the Second Floor, allowing you access to the Tenma armor set. After leaving the Priest's room, it is safe to save your game and load the patch back up.

Make your way to the Second Floor and enter the rooms at reference points Gr, Ga, Ar, and He to pick up the Tenma Greaves, Gauntlets, Armor, and Helmet, respectively.

Now that we're fully decked out in your demon armor , it's time to check out the Cathedral. Use the Terminal to transmit to T.D.L. and exit, and you'll be back on the city map. From T.D.L. head south across the bridge Echidna created to reach the Cathedral island. Enter the yellow building near the Cathedral to enter it.

Great Cathedral - Gaian Headquarters

Head due south from the Cathedral entrance and you'll run into the Chaos Hero. He'll tell you about the Shiten-Ou, the Four Heavenly Kings and that their power is needed elsewhere. Your next objective is to meet and recruit these characters.

Before that, let's do some shopping. First, it's time to get the best guns money can buy. From the entrance to the Cathedral, go due west, passing a random Gaian, to a wall. Go north a space, then east a space to find the Weapon shop. My preference is to keep the Magic Shells, since Charmed enemies will more than make up for the slight damage difference. After you're through picking up weapons and any new ammo, exit the store.

From the weapon store, go west a space, the south to the Gaia chapel. Shift one space east, then south through the door to the Armor shop. Pick up a Sturm Helm and Sturm Leggings and equip them on the Heroine.

Save your game at the nearby Terminal so you can easily return to the Cathedral later.

With your new equipment, it's time to meet on the Shiten-Ou, the four demons who are protecting Tokyo. Continue the walkthrough below at The Four Heavenly Kings.

The Four Heavenly Kings

Enemies:-------------------------Items:
Jaki Rakshasa
Femme Dakini
Touki Yaksha
Brute Shuten-Doji
Brute Turdak
Yoma Tengu
Kishin Zouchouten (Law and Neutral)
Kishin Komokuten (Law and Neutral)
Kishin Jikokuten (Law and Neutral)
Kishin Bishamonten (Law and Neutral)

Your next goal is to meet with the Shiten-Ou, the Four Heavenly Kings, and servants of Tairo no Masakado. The results of your encounters depends on your alignment. Law Path players are there to defeat the Shiten-Ou since they are causing some form of interference around Tokyo. Chaos Path players will be recruiting the Shiten-Ou, as their power can be used elsewhere (namely your party). Neutral path players are meeting the Shiten-Ou in order to test their own power.

Your first visit is to Zouchouten, who resides in the West Mansion. Use a Terminal to warp to Shibuya, then exit to the city map. Head north of Shibya, parallel to the purple tube. When you see a break in the tube, head west and you'll come to a red building in a grove of trees. Enter the building.

West Mansion

West Mansion.
Map Legend
Z = Zouchouten
X = Exit to City Map

From the entrance, make your way to reference point Z to come to a sealed door. The Four-Door Gem will allow access, so go through the door, and inside you'll meet Zouchouten.

If you are on the Law or Neutral path, you'll fight him. This battle isn't really even a boss battle--hell, it doesn't even have the boss battle music--and he is incredibly easy. Just switch on Auto-battle and you'll splatter him in seconds.

If you are on the Chaos path, then Zouchouten will add his power to yours. If your are level 55 or above (you should be, since you should have done the Gaian Baptism first), he will join your pary. Otherwise, he will give some words of encouragement (and remain around to talk to if he didn't join, so you can pick him up later).

After dealing with Zouchouten, cast Toraport, then Transmit to Shinagawa.

South Mansion

South Mansion.
Map Legend
K = Komokuten
X = Exit to City Map

Exit to the city map. From Shinagawa, head west until you are north of a grove of trees. Head south into the grove and enter the red building.

This mansion is ridiculously short, yay. From the entrance, head a few space south towards reference point K and you'll reach another sealed door which is opened with the Four-Door Gem.

Again, if you're on the Law or Neutral path, you'll end up in another fight. Like Zouchouten, this isn't even a challenge. Just use autobattle to end the battle quickly. After defeating Zochoten, his power from the barrier is released.

Likewise, if you are on the Chaos path, Komokuten will release his power to aid you. If you are level 57 or higher (again, you should be level 65+ if you did the Gaian Baptism), he will join your party. If you are not high enough level, then he will say a few words and will be available to recruit until later.

That's two down, two to go. Time for the East Mansion. Use Toraport and select to Transmit to T.D.L.

East Mansion

Map Legend
J = Jikokuten
X = Exit to City Map

From T.D.L., you'll enter the mansion from the south. From the entrance, make your way to reference point J. Go through the metal door to reach the inner chamber.

As with the first two Shiten-Ou, Law and Neutral path players will have to fight Jikokuten; and like the others, he's nothing more than a standard enemy. Use Autobattle for a quick kill.

Chaos Path players will be able to recruit Jikokuten if at level 59 or above.

After defeating or speaking with Jikokuten, his power is released. Time to go to the final mansion. Use Toraport and choose to Transmit to Ikebukuro.

North Mansion

North Mansion.
Map Legend
B = Bishamonten
X = Exit to City Map

Exit Ikebukuro to the city map and head east to the red building we used to get to Ueno.

Time to tackle the last mansion. From the west entrance, make your way to reference point B and use the Four-Door Gem to pass through the metal door. Inside you'll meet Bishamonten.

Like always, Law and Neutral will have to go through a fight...and like always, the fight is a joke. Again, you should be able to use Auto-Battle to end the fight quickly and without casualties. If you notice someone is taking heavy damage, simply cancel the Auto-Battle and heal him.

Unlike the previous three, chances are Bishamonten won't offer to join. He's level 75, which would be ridiculously high for your Main Hero to be at this point in the game. Don't worry too much, we can simply use Demon Fusion to make him later.

After Bishamonten has been dealt with, the barrier protecting Tokyo will be gone.

IMPORTANT

As with the end of the Thorman/Goutou arc earlier, you are about to enter into another Point of No Return.

Before returning to the Cathedral to report your success to the Law and/or Chaos Hero, make sure you've done absolutely everything you want to do. Once you return to the Law Hero, a point of no return event occurs. If you are on the Law or Chaos path, be certain that you have the Jesus or Tenma set of equipment. Also check the Optional Sidequests section to make sure you've done all available side-quests that you want.

After heeding the above advice and doing everything you want to, return to the Law or Chaos Hero. After talking to them, you will hear a rumble, and they will ask you to go outside to check out what happened. Do so and you'll see that Tokyo has been flooded.

Flooded Tokyo

Haunt Sanni Yaka
Haunt Sawobak
Haunt Vetara
Tenma Ravana (Law and Neutral Path)
Tenma Indrajit (Law and Neutral Path
Deity Vishnu (Chaos and Neutral Path

Your alignment is now locked in at this point (sort of, see the Frequently Asked Questions section for common glitches/pitfalls). Return to the Law and/or Chaos Hero and they will comment on the flooding. Additionally, they will tell you that Ravana and Vishnu, longtime enemies, have renewed their feud in the old Tokyo Government Offices.

If you are on the Law path, the Law Hero will direct you to aid Vishnu and defeat Ravana. Likewise, if you are on the Chaos path, the Chaos Hero will direct you to aid Ravana and defeat Vishnu. If you are on the Neutral path, then each Hero will ask you to aid his respective ally and defeat his respective enemy.

Regardless of your path, the first order of business is finding a means of transportation to traverse the sea. Unfortunately, each path enters the Cathedral at a different entrance, so each path has a different means of acquiring sea transportation. Read the text box for your corresponding alignment below. You should utilize the maps for the Great Cathedral First Floor and Basement One in the The Great Cathedral, Part One (B1-1F) section to aid you.

Law Path

While in the south portion of the Cathedral (the Messian Encampment), head towards reference point O1. Along the way you'll meet a Messian who is about to sacrifice a monster because it is an evil demon. Enter the room at reference point O1 and you'll meet an Octopus who asks to be set free. A Messian will come in and ask what you're doing. Answer that you intend to free the Octopus and the Messian will let you go. Talk to the Octopus again and instead of eating you, he will give you the Octopus Whistle, which allows transport over water.

This is another area where you'll run into trouble with the translation patch. If you have the patch installed, you'll never be able to save the Octopus, since the game will always think you're answering "No" to the Messian's question. Load an unpatched ROM and talk to the Messian. Answer "yes" to the man's question (the top choice if you're getting gibberish), and continue through the door to pick up the Octopus Whistle. Now you can load up the patched ROM.

Chaos Path

While in the northern portion of the Cathedral (the Gaian Encampment), head towards reference point O2 and you'll meet a Gaian who wants to kill a monster and sell its meat. Enter the room at reference point O2 and you'll see a turtle that has been captured. The Gaian will enter the room, but he'll quickly notice your awesome weaponry and will decide to let you have the Turtle. Talk to the Turtle, who then gives you the Turtleshell Bell, which allows you to travel over water.

Neutral Path

If you are on the Neutral Path, you can do either of the two options above. If you are using the translation patch, then I would recommend rescuing the Turtle to avoid the Octopus glitch entirely.

The Neutral path entrance to the Cathedral is on Basement One, however, as opposed to the First Floor that the other two paths start at. As such, you will want to first make your way to the First Floor. If you want to save the Octopus, then make your way to the stairs at reference point 1G, and from there, follow the Law path directions above. If you want to save the Turtle, then make your way to the stairs at reference point 1A, and from there follow the Chaos path directions above. While in one of the encampments make sure you save your game at the respective Terminal so you can warp back to the Cathedral quickly in the future.

Now that you have a new transportation method, it's time to advance the plot. Head outside to the city map and attempt to enter the water and you'll call the Octopus (or Turtle) with the instrument.

Important Note for Neutral Path

Now that you have a means of ocean transportation, you can finally do your own Baptism of a sorts by visiting the Imperial Palace. See the Meeting Masakado no Tairo section below for details. I highly recommend doing this before continuing with the main walkthrough, as it will net you a good weapon and the best armor in the game for the Neutral Path.

The Octopus/Turtle can't swim over deep water, so make your way west around the cathedral's island and head due west from the cathedral. Go around the small island with a yellow building on it, it's an optional side-area that isn't available yet. Eventually you'll come to some deep water you can't cross over, so start heading north. Continue north past the West Mansion, and you'll eventually come to the Tokyo Office Building, which isn't fully submerged. Enter the building.

Tokyo Government Office - 32nd Floor

Tokyo Government Office (32nd Floor).
Map Legend
T = Terminal
W = Elevator to Western Tower
E = Elevator to Eastern Tower
X = Exit to City Map

As always, the first thing to do is to head to reference point T to save your game at the Terminal. This building is divided into two towers (which you may have noticed on the city map). Vishnu is in the West Tower while Ravana is in the East Tower. The order you complete the two towers depends on which path you are following.

Law Path

If you are on the Law Path, your first priority is to seek out Vishnu. As such, you will want to explore the West Tower first. Head to the elevator at reference point W and go up to the 45th Floor. Pick up the walkthrough at the Tokyo Government Office - West 45th Floor section below.

Chaos Path

If you are on the Chaos Path, your first priority is to meet Ravana. As such, you will want to explore the East Tower first. Head to the elevator at reference point E and go up to the 45th Floor. Pick up the walkthrough at the Tokyo Government Building - East 45th Floor section below.

Neutral Path

Since the Neutral path does not have any allies to meet with in this area, you can do the towers in any order you like. Due to the levels and experience values of the bosses involved, I would recommend starting with the East Tower first, then the West.

If you decide to tackle the East Tower first, then head to reference point E and go up to the 45th floor. Pick up the walkthrough at the Tokyo Government Building - East 45th Floor section below.

If you decide to tackle the West Tower first, then head to reference point W and go up to the 45th floor. Pick up the walkthrough at the Tokyo Government Office - West 45th Floor section below.

Note for Law and Neutral Path Players

There are some demons in this building that are definitely worth recruiting. Yoma Kinnara has solid stats and has two of the -kaja spells, which makes him an incredibly useful ally. Yoma Ongkot also has two -kaja spells, but his level is somewhat low at this point. He's still worth picking up if your demon roster is outdated. Yoma Ganesha has solid stats and the very useful Diarahan if you need another healer. Finally, Yoma Hanuman has *great* stats and attacking ability, although the only useful spell of his is Tarukaja.

Tokyo Government Office (West 48th Floor)
Map Legend
V = Deity Vishnu
47 = Stairs to West 47th Floor

Alright, Vishnu is nearby! No items on this floor either, so you can head directly to where Vishnu is waiting. Unfortunately the encounter rate on this floor is terrible; expect there to be times where you get attacked every step you take for a good 4-5 steps.

Law Path

Before entering the room at reference point V, make sure you have a free space in your demon stock. Dismiss the weakest demon you have, if you need to, as you're about to get one of the best demons in the game. After making sure you have space, go through the metal door. Inside the room you'll find Vishnu. He'll entrust his power to you and become your minion. He's a whopping level 82 with good spells and attacking ability, so definitely summon him into your party. You'll be likely using him in your active party for the remainder of the game.

Now that Vishnu has joined, it's time to take out Ravanna. Return all the back to the 32nd Floor (this might be a good time to cast Estoma, if you have it, just remember you have to exit the building to get it to wear off if you want to go back to killing things). Or you can use a warp spell to take you back to the Terminal, or just slog your way back down, which will do good things for your money and Magnetite supply!

Whatever you decide, pick up the walkthrough at the Tokyo Government Building - East 45th Floor section below.

Chaos and Neutral Path

Prep your party for a boss fight, then make your way to reference point V. Inside the room you'll meet Vishnu, who decides to take care of you before dealing with Ravana and attacks. Read the Deity Vishnu section below.

Deity Vishnu
Level: 92
HP: 2420
MP: 310

EXP: 1104
£: 4416
MAG: 1840
ITEM: Soma

Abilities:
Attack (~140 Physical damage, hits 3-5 characters)
Megido (~60 Almighty MT damage)
Mahanma (Inflicts Sudden Death at ~25%, hits 4 characters)
Diarama (Recovers ~130 of Vishnu's HP)

Strategy: You can treat Vishnu just like Haniel, just scaled to match your higher level. By and large, Vishnu is a damage dealing boss with the ever-annoying Mahanma, with a useless healing spell thrown in. While his attack and Megido can do some okay damage, most of your party members should have 600+ HP at this point. His most annoying attack, Mahanma, can thin out your demon allies quickly if he decides to spam it, but much like Haniel, it can never threaten you with a game over. If worse comes to worst, you can handily win this fight with just the Main Hero and Heroine: alternating use of Diarahan will keep your party alive, and any time Vishnu uses Mahan-Ma or Diarama, he just gave you a free turn to beat his face in. If you have the Hinokagutsuchi or the Lotus Wand, then this fight will be cake.

Your objective after defeating Vishnu will again depend on your alignment.

Chaos Path

With Ravana's support and Vishnu lying dead, it's time to report your success to the Chaos Hero. Return to the Terminal and transmit to the Cathedral. Continue reading the walkthrough at The Great Cathedral - Entrance section below.

Neutral Path

If you have already defeated Ravana, Indrajit, and Vishnu, then you are finished with the Tokyo Government Building. Return to the Terminal, warp back to the Cathedral, and pick up the walkthrough at [The Great Cathedral - Entrance]] section below.

If you have not yet defeated Ravana and Indrajit, then you need to return to the 32nd Floor and take the East elevator to the East 45th Floor. If that is the case, then continue reading the walkthrough at the Tokyo Government Building - East 45th Floor section below.

Law and Neutral Paths

Prep your party for a boss fight, then make your way to reference point R. Inside the room you'll meet Ravana. If you are law-aligned, Ravana seems somewhat impressed that Vishnu is with you. Ravana decides to have some fun with you and attackswho decides to take care of you before dealing with Ravana and attacks. Read the Tenma Ravana section below.

Tenma Ravana
Level: 69
HP: 2160
MP: 256

EXP: 1104
£: 3312
MAG: 1380
ITEM: Soma

Abilities:
Attack (~72 Physical damage, hits 3-6 characters)
Zanma (~33 Impact damage)
Maha-Zanma (~25 Impact MT damage)
Diarama (Recovers ~120 of Ravana's HP)

Strategy: Ravana is seriously bad, and you have no business at all having troubles against him, especially if you are on the Law Path with Vishnu (Neutral players can make do with Yoma Ganesha). Hell, Vishnu could probably solo this. If you picked up the Lotus Wand and Majousen in the Reconstruction buildings, you can just put this fight on auto-battle can come back a minute later. Due to Ravana's crappy levels, you'll probably only get the base 1104 experience for beating him. Oh well.

After being defeated, Ravana complains about losing and dies. Before you can leave, Ravana's son, Indrajit, comes down and attacks you to avenge his father's death. Okaaay.

Tenma Indrajit
Level: 81
HP: 2060
MP: 240

EXP: 1296
£: 3888
MAG: 1620
ITEM: Soma

Abilities:
Attack (~115 Physical damage, hits 2-3 characters)
Zionga (~27 Electric damage, inflicts Shock at ~95% rate)
Maha-Zionga (~17 Electric MT damage, inflicts Shock at ~95% rate)
Makarakarn (Reflects Magic based attacks)

Strategy: Indrajit isn't that much better than his father, sadly. He'll waste time with Maha-Zionga which, while annoying, is hardly threatening at this point. His physical attack does far too low of damage and hits far too few characters to ever be a threat. Makarakarn could be threatening, but by this point your physical attacks are going to be your primary damage source, and Indrajit hardly uses Makarakarn to boot. Like Ravana, if you have the Lotus Wand and Majousen, you can probably set this on auto-battle and win within a few seconds. You'll also get a bit more experience, due to Indrajit being at a decent level.

Your objective after defeating Ravana and Indrajit will depend on your alignment.

Law Path

Now that Vishnu has given you his aid and the threat of Ravana and Indrajit is over with, it's time to return to the Cathedral to report your success to the Law Hero. Head back to the 32nd floor, using whatever method you prefer, and use the Terminal to return to the Cathedral.

Neutral Path

If you have already defeated Ravana, Indrajit, and Vishnu, then you are finished with the Tokyo Government Building. Return to the Terminal, warp back to the Cathedral, and pick up the walkthrough at The Great Cathedral - Entrance section below.

If you have not yet defeated Vishnu, then you need to return to the 32nd Floor and take the East elevator to the West 45th Floor. If that is the case, then continue reading the walkthrough at the Tokyo Government Building - West 45th Floor section above.

The final area is the incredibly large Cathedral. Now that the Vishnu/Ravana arc is done with, it's time to report to the Law and/or Chaos Heroes.

At this point, I highly recommend getting the Hinokagutsuchi. See the sidequest section for details, but you should easily have enough gems to buy the required Seirei from Rag's Shop, assuming you haven't spent them yet. I'd also recommend fusing the Renki no Ken into a different weapon for the Heroine. While you cannot make the Fire Dragon Sword yet, the other weapons are still a huge upgrade over anything else you have access to. These weapons will make trekking through this monster of a final dungeon MUCH more bearable.

As you can see from the maps above, and much like Tokyo Destiny Land, the first level and first basement of the Cathedral are highly interconnected, making a walkthrough for each floor impossible. Again, I'll try to be as clear as possible what floor you're on and when you're switching floors. As usual, how you proceed depends on your alignment.

Law Path

Time to report your success in defeating Ravana to Law Hero. From the Terminal point, return to where Law Hero is. Unfortunately, it seems the Law Hero has already made his way towards to heart of the Cathedral in order to prevent the monster horde from overrunning it. Finding him would probably be a good idea!

1F: From where you met the Messian telling you about the Law Hero, head to the stairwell at reference point BG to go down to B1.

B1: From the stairwell, make your towards the center of the floor at reference point He. When you get there, you'll come across a door that leads to the inner sanctum of the Cathedral. Agree to enter it.

Inside you'll meet the Law Hero, who will tell you the current situation with the Gaians. After speaking with the Law Hero, you'll be transported one room east of the inner sanctum and unable to enter it by heading west. Your first objective is to find Michael, who is now leading the Messians. Before starting that task, however, it's time to clear 1F and B1 of their items. Pick up reading the walkthrough at The Great Cathedral - First Floor/Basement One, Part Two section below.

Chaos Path

Neutral Path

Time to tell both the Law Hero and Chaos Hero that both their allies and their enemies are dead.

1F: Make your way from the Terminal back down to Basement One (use the stairs at reference point BA if you are at the Gaian Encampment or the stairs at reference point BG: if you are at the Messian Encampment.

B1: From the stairs, head back to the Law Hero at reference point LH and the Chaos Hero at reference point CH. Both will be furious that you killed their allies and both vow that the next time you meet, it will be as enemies...such great friends! Although both former friends have abandoned you, you will hear a voice telling you not to worry. Continue along to the Heart of the Cathedral at reference point He. Inside the sanctum you will meet the Old Man yet again. He will fill you in on the goals of the Messian and Gaian leaders, and what must be done to stop them. After speaking with the Old Man, you'll be transported one room east of the inner sanctum and unable to enter it by heading west. The path is now open to find, and defeat, the big leaders. Before starting that task, however, it's time to clear 1F and B1 of their items. Pick up reading the walkthrough at The Great Cathedral - First Floor/Basement One, Part Two section below.

The Great Cathedral - First Floor/Basement One, Part Two

Regardless of your alignment, it is now time to clear these two levels of their treasures (although for being such a massive area, there isn't a whole lot...).

B1: The first part of this treasure hunt will look like back-tracking for Law-aligned heroes. Starting one space east of reference point He, make your way due east through a door. Turn and go south one space and you'll be just north of reference pont 1M. Don't go up the stairs, rather, go one space west, then south to a wall. Go one space west, then north through a door until you reach another wall. From here, head west a few spaces, then south through the one-way door. From here, head towards reference point 1G and go up the stairs to the First Floor.

1F: Due to how close this stairway is to the Messian Encampment, Chaos and/or Neutral path players may want to make a quick stop there to register the Cathedral-Law Terminal and do some shopping. Once ready, make your way to reference point M1. Inside the room you'll find a box that contains 2960 Magnetite. Exit the room.

Now head northeast a short ways to reference point SN. Inside the room is a Smoke Bomb. Exit the room.

After collecting the two items, head on over to the stairs at reference point BH and go back down to Basement One.

B1: From the stairwell, make your way around the concentric "rings" to reference point P to reach a chest containing a Poison Arrow. Exit the room.

Now back-track until you're in front of the stairs at reference point 1H, then continue past it to reach a long hallway way that winds its way to reference pont 1I to find a stairwell that heads back up to 1F.

1F: Not much to see here. Do the quick jaunt from the stairwell to the next stairwell just north of it at reference point BJ. Head down the stairs.

B1: This is one of two areas on this floor that are trickier than others (although not that tricky): if you go up the wrong stairwell (reference point 1K is the wrong stairwell), you'll find yourself in a maze of one-way doors that doesn't actually lead anywhere.

From the stairwell, navigate to reference pont M1 to find a box containing 2960 Magnetite. Exit the room.

Now make your way to reference point 1L (the correct stairwell) and head up to the first floor.

1F: From the stairwell, turn west and go forward through the one-way door. Go through the small spiral corridor just north of you to reference point M2 to find a box containing 3200 Magnetite. Exit the room.

The Great Cathedral - First Floor/Basement One - Gaian Encampent

If you look at the map, you'll notice you are near the Gaian encampment. Feel free to explore it. Heal your party if needed. If you are on the Law path, then you want to find the Armor Shop and Terminal. Pick up an Argama Suit for the Heroine. At this point, for all three paths, she should now be equipped with a Sturm Helm, Argama Suit, Crimson Gauntlets, and Sturm Leggings. This is her optimal armor set up. Now save your game at the Terminal.

Time to finish exploring this area. Head south out of the Gaian Encampment.

The Great Cathedral - First Floor/Basement One, Part Three

1F: After leaving the Gaian Encmapment, continue on to reference point So to find a box containing a Soma. Exit the room.

Wind your way back around and go to reference point BB to reach a stairwell that leads back to B1.

B1: No treasures in this section, and the path is convoluted as hell. Pity. Make your way through the maze of short, rectangular corridors to reference point 1C to reach a stairwell that heads back up to 1F.

1F: No treasure in this section either, but at least the path isn't mentally retarded. Navigate through the relatively open section to reference point BD and take the stairwell to B1.

B1: Back to treasure hunting, yay! This is also the second of the "tricky" areas, where taking the wrong stairs (the stairwell at reference point BE are the wrong stairs, this time) leads to a pointless maze of one-way doors. From the stairwell, first head to reference point M2 to find a room with a box holding 3200 Magnetite. Exit the room.

Now head to reference point CS, which is a room with a box containing a Core Shield. Exit the room.

Now, if you want to get into a guaranteed fight, you can head to reference point Y to trigger an enemy appearance (almost always a Snake Yurlungur).

After clearing out all the loot, make the trek to reference point 1F (the correct staircase) to head back to the first floor.

1F: Alright, almost done with the largest chunk of the Cathedral. From the stairwell, head east through the one-way door. You should recognize this area if you look at your automap. On the other side of the door, head one space east, then turn south and return to the Messian camp.

Now that you're back in Messian Camp, take this opportunity to heal up and save your game at the Terminal. I'd also suggest taking a break from the game for a short while, since those two floors you just went through are total nightmares and a huge time sink; coming back to the game after a short break will make the remainder of the Cathedral much more enjoyable >.>-

From here on, the path through the Cathedral depends on your alignment.

Law Path

Your next objective is to reach the top of the Cathedral so that you can meet with the Law Hero and Seraph Michael. As such, you will be climbing to the top of the Cathedral before plumbing its depths. Pick up the walkthrough at the The Great Cathedral - To the Top of the Cathedral section below.

Chaos Path

Your next objective is to reach the bottom of the Cathedral so that you can meet with the Chaos Hero and King Asura. As such, you will be going into the underground portion of the Cathedral before climbing to the top. Pick up the walkthrough at the The Great Cathedral - To the Cathedral Depths section below.

Neutral Path

Since your objective is to neutralize both Seraph Michael and Tenma King Asura, you can choose whether to tackle the Cathedral basement first, or to head to the top. Since the path to the top has slightly more difficult bosses, and because you can do an extra sidequest without any backtracking by doing the basement first, I recommend heading to the bottom first.

If you choose to go to the basement first, pick up the walkthrough at the The Great Cathedral - To the Cathedral Depths section below.

If you choose to go to the cathedral top first, pick up the walkthrough at the The Great Cathedral - To the Top of the Cathedral section below.
