Review by DarkSamuri
A very small improvement over the original.
The graphics are solid if only a little dull. The stages are varied and most of the time interesting. In some stages however, particularly one of the last stages, it can be difficult to tell what's part of the background and what you can stand on.
Most of the sounds are lifted directly from ActRaiser 1 so if you've played that you know what to expect here. If you haven't the music usually fits the situation. The sound effects when yo attack get annoying really fast and unfortunately there is no option to turn them off.
This game has a lot of faults in this area. To start with both the sky palace and the Master move painfully slowly. The Master has wings now and can now glide, not fly, which would have been helpful in several places. Some of the aerial maneuvers can be difficult to use. As for the spells. Although the fact that you have all your spells available to you at anytime the execution is flawed because you can't select which spell to use. In other words you can't use the flamethrower spell while gliding or a thunderbolt spell while standing on the ground. There's no simulation mode. Which I think is an improvement. I didn't think there was a lot to do.
You don't need to have played the first one to follow this one. Your brought up to speed every time you start the game. Whether from a password or not.Which I found annoying.
This game is way too hard for its own good. Easy is hard and I don't even want to know about hard. The enemies respawn so if you work your way to the top of a tower and get knocked to the bottom you have to fight all the enemies again. And some of the bosses are unbelievably hard. Particularly the ones around the middle of the game.
If you manage to beat this game you probably won't want to play it again for a long time.
If you can find it cheap get it but otherwise don't.
