Sonic has seen better days on a 8 bit system.

After the success of Sonic The Hedgehog 2 on both Master System and on Genesis Sega decided to give the Master System another Sonic game while the Genesis owners had to wait for Sonic The Hedgehog 3. Unlike the previous Sonic The Hedgehog game on Master System, Tails is now playable instead of just a guy who Dr Robotnik has kidnapped. This time Dr Robotnik has stolen a chaos Emerald and it's up to our two heroes to once again stop him from his evil plans.

Before the game starts, the player has to choose which character that him/her should play as. Sonic seems to jump a little higher and do a little more damage to the bosses while Tails starts with two more continues and has the ability to fly using his two tails. The only real thing that is difference between them is that Sonic can collect chaos emeralds by finding them in bonus stages. To get to a bonus stage Sonic has to collect 100 rings, which also is an alternative way to warp to the next act with Sonic.

The game has 6 different zones which all has 3 different acts in them. The first two acts are just regular stages while the last one ends with a boss fight. Unlike the previous two Sonic The Hedgehog games on Master System it's now possible to get a few rings before it's time to crush one of Dr Robotnik's evil badnicks, which makes the boss fights much easier.

So far this Sonic game seems to be a very good one, so why did I gave it such a low score? That's because teh game has some major flaws. Each act only takes around 30 seconds to finish which means that the game only takes about 30 minutes until you've defeated Dr Robotnik. Another bad thing is the control. Once Sonic or Tails has jumped on an enemy, it's almost impossible to make them land where you want them two. And while I guess it could be very hard for the Master System to handle, it's a shame that there's no tag team possibilities for a 2nd player just like how Sonic and Tails can work together in Sonic 2 on the Genesis.

While the game has some big flaws, it's still an old-school Sonic game, and those games are always somewhat fun, even if this game is way to easy.
