Introduction

Spellbound Dizzy is a Platformer-Adventure game developed by Big Red Software and Codemasters, and published by Codemasters. This game is the fifth adventure-based game in the Dizzy series. It was released in November 11, 1991 for the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and Commodore 64 platforms. Amiga, DOS, and Atari ST versions was available in 1992.

The gameplay is same with the previous games; that involves collecting items, and moving to other locations where the item is required to solving puzzles (Dizzy can carry up to four items at once). You start the game with three lives and a health bar, which can be replenished by finding and collecting fruits scattered throughout the maze.

In this game, Dizzy must exploring through a large maze of the underworld in an attempt to rescue his friends who are trapped there.

This is a first version of this FAQ. It contains Introduction, Plot, Complete Walkthrough, Items Listing, Character Listing, Hazards Listing, Magic Stars Location, and Credits.

Dizzy's been visiting his local friendly Wizard Theodore.

Now Theo, who may be a dab hand in the waving of wands area, is not much cop at the filing-things-away-neatly department and he's left his book of Really Powerful Spells lying round in his laboratory.

What's more, the book's been left open at the page headed A Really, Really Powerful Spell (That shouldn't be read out loud).

Whether Dizzy actually read the heading is not known but - yikes! - he said the spell and it's caused a catastrophe: Dizzy spirited all his Yolkfolk chums and Wizard Theo into the underworld! Cripes!

There's only one course of action open to the brave little hero: read the spell again and spirit himself into the underworld to save his rotund group of pals!

Control

  • Enter = Action (Pick up and drop item/ Talks).
  • Space = Jump.
  • Z = Walk left/ Select item up in inventory.
  • X = Walk right/ Select item down in inventory.
  • P = Pause.
  • Q = Exit.

Trampette

From the starting screen; jump into the mushroom in the left, and press "Right" button to land on the cloud above. Pick up Magic Star #1 there, and fall down to return at the starting screen. Jump over the mushroom there, and head left a screen. Jump into a deep pit, and you'll land on the trampette. Wait until you've finished bouncing, and then pick up that Trampette.

Tuft of Grass #1

Head left a screen, and drop the trampette near the fruit there. Get on the trampette, and keep pressing the "Jump" button to make Dizzy bouncing. When he bouncing high enough, press "Left" button to bounce Dizzy to the higher cliff in the left. Head left a screen to arrive at the Sandstone Quarry, and pick up Tuft of Grass #1 near the mushroom there to uncover Magic Star #2. Drop that grass because it is useless.

Heavy Rock x1

Pick up one of Heavy Rock in the same screen (don't drop it on the floor because it'll break), head back right, and jump into the deep pit. Move the trampette back to the right hand side of the pit, and use it to bounce to the higher cliff in the right. Head right to return at the starting screen, jump into the mushroom there, and press "Right" button to land on the cloud above. Now you can safely drop the rock on the cloud without breaking it.

Heavy Rock x2

Make your way back to the Sandstone Quarry, and pick up another Heavy Rock. Then return back to the cloud above the starting screen, and collect the rock that you left earlier.

Crystal Leaves

Let Dizzy fall down to the starting screen, and head right a screen to arrive at the Windy Shaft. Pick up a Magic Star #3 there, and jump down into the pit (the rocks serve to weigh you down enough to descend quite a way). Fall down three screens, and land onto the exit on the left. Head left a screen, and drop one of the rocks that you carry there. Pick up the left Crystal Leaves from the Crystal Tree there to uncover Magic Star #4. Drop that leaves because it is useless.

Wooden Railing #1

Head left a screen (bottom path) to arrive at Theo's Grotto. Talk to Theo, and he'll tell Dizzy that to get someone home, he'll need five stars and something that belongs to them. Return right to the Crystal Tree, and jump to the upper passage left from that tree. Head left a screen, and pick up the left most Wooden Railing to uncover Magic Star #5. Drop that railing because it is useless.

Iron Hammer

Head up a screen, and left a screen to arrive at Dylan's hole. You can't talk to Dylan yet, because he is stuck underground. Pick up the Iron Hammer there, and return to the Windy Shaft.

Since you only have one rock, you'll get carried upwards. Now, you must land onto the exit on your right (it leads to the Mining Shaft). Head right two screens, and you'll find the broken track there. Fix the track with the hammer, and walk back to the Windy Shaft. Drop your last rock here, jump to the pit, and you'll get carried upwards to the surface.

Heavy Rock x1

Drop the hammer in the starting screen; make your way back to the Sandstone Quarry, and pick up another Heavy Rock there. Use the mushroom in the same screen to jump right into some clouds above (always press "Jump" button so that you not fall down). From that cloud; jump left to another cloud, and jump right to higher cloud in the previous screen. Pick up a Magic Star #6 there, jump left to the previous cloud, and use another cloud there until you reach the edge of a Vast Lake.

Brake Shoe

Now, you need to ride Wally the Whale to across the lake, and pick up the Brake Shoe in the other side. At the same screen; pick up a Magic Star #7 while riding Wally. Make your way back to the Deep Pit, and drop your brake shoe for a while. Move the trampette to the other end of pit, pick back the brake shoe, and make your way to the Windy Shaft.

Jump down into the pit, and return to the Mining Shaft. In the first screen of the Mining Shaft, drop the rock that you carry, and use the brake shoe on the cart there. Get into the cart, and it'll carry you to the very end of the line.

Bag

Head right a screen, and pick up a Magic Star #8 there (be careful, because if you walk near the right wall, the falling rocks will kill you). Return left a screen, and jump right to the next screen to arrive at the upper passage. Pick up the Bag there, and now you can carry more than two objects.

Iron Chain

Go up a screen, and pick up a Magic Star #9 there. Pick up the Iron Chain in the same screen to uncover Magic Star #10. Drop that chain because it is useless.

Megaphone

Head left a screen, and pick up the Megaphone there.

Wooden Railing #2

Head left to the Rickety Bridge, and pick up the Wooden Railing (second railing from the right of fruit there) to uncover Magic Star #11. Drop that railing because it is useless.

Wooden Railing #3

Head left a screen, and pick up the second Wooden Railing from the right to uncover Magic Star #12. Drop that railing because it is useless.

Wooden Railing #4 and #5

In the same screen, pick up the fourth and fifth Wooden Railings from the right to uncover the mushroom (drop that railings because it is useless.). Use that mushroom to reach the cloud above. walk to the right side of that cloud and jump to the cliff in the right. Head up a screen while avoiding the water drops, and pick up a Magic Star #13 there.

Return to the Rickety Bridge, and use the mushroom there to reach the previous cloud. Now, jump to the cliff in the left, and head left a screen. Pick up a Magic Star #14 and Magic Star #15 there, then return to the Rickety Bridge.

Gold Shamrock

Head left a screen to arrive at the Passage Junction, and pick up the Gold Shamrock there. Head down a screen, and pick up Magic Star #16 there. Then, head left a few screen until you reach the Windy Shaft.

Jump down into the pit to return to the surface. Head to the starting screen, and drop the shamrock and megaphone there.

Heavy Rocks x3 and Gold Shamrock

Make your way back to the Sandstone Quarry, and pick up three Heavy Rocks (now you can collect them all in one journey). Return to the starting screen, and pick up the shamrock that you drop earlier.

Weird Talisman

Go to the Windy Shaft, and fall down five screens until you arrive at screen with green walls. Head right two screens, and talk to the Leprechaun there. Give him the shamrock, and pick up the Weird Talisman that he give you in return. Pick up Magic Star #17 in the same screen.

Ear Trumpet

Head left three screens, and drop a rock on the right pan of the scales. Go down a screen, left a screen, and talk to Grand Dizzy. Pick up the Ear Trumpet that he drop, and return to the Windy Shaft. Drop another rock, go up two screens, and left two screens to meet Theo. Give him the ear trumpet, and he'll sent Grand Dizzy home.

Aqualung

From Theo's Grotto; head right a screen and drop the ear trumpet there. Head right two screens to return at the Mining Shaft. Make sure you have one rock in your inventory, and then get into the cart. This time the cart will crash into the wall, and you'll fall down to the Reservoir. You'll drown if you stay too long in the water, so quickly head right a screen. The Beast there will fall under the talisman's strange spell, and you must quickly leave the deep water.

Head right a screen, and use the mushroom under the water to reach the higher platform in the right. Pick up the Aqualung there, and you now can breathe under the water. Pick up Magic Star #18 while avoiding the killer fish, and head left two screens (Keep hold of the talisman). Pick up Magic Star #19 there while avoiding the killer crab.

Now head left a screen, up a screen, and left a screen to return at the Mining Shaft. Drop the talisman and rock here, and head left a few screens to reach the Windy Shaft. Jump down into the pit to return to the surface.

Soggy Log

Make your way back to the Vast Lake in the top of quarry, and jump into that lake. Head left two screens, and pick up Magic Star #20 there. Head down a screen, left a screen, down a screen, and try to pick up the brown seaweed because it hiding the Magic Star #21. Head left a screen, and pick up Soggy Log there. Now go all the way back to the starting screen, and drop the aqualung and the soggy log there.

Heavy Rocks x3, Aqualung

Make your way back to the Sandstone Quarry, and pick up three Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, and pick up the aqualung that you drop earlier.

Umbrella

Go to the Windy Shaft, fall down five screens, and then head right a screen to arrive at the Man-Eating Plant. Drop two of your three rocks here, and jump into the water there.

Pick up the Umbrella there (it reducing the effect of the rock that you carry by one), and head back to the Windy Shaft. Return to the surface, and drop your umbrella in the right side of that screen.

Heavy Rocks x2, Megaphone, Soggy Log, & Ear Trumpet

Drop your last rock, head to the quarry, and pick up two Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, drop the aqualung, and pick up the megaphone and the soggy log that you left earlier.

Go to the Windy Shaft, fall down three screens, and then head left a screen to arrive at the crystal tree. Drop one rock, and pick up the ear trumpet that you left earlier there.

Dylan's Vibes

Jump to the upper passage left from that tree; then head left, up, and left again to arrive at Dylan's hole. Use the megaphone to talk to Dylan (you must have ear trumpet as well so that you can hear what he say), and pick up Dylan's Vibes that he give you.

Smoking Log

In the same screen; use the soggy log next to the fire to get Smoking Log. Return to Theo's Grotto, and give him Dylan's Vibes, so that he can sent Dylan home. Drop the vibes and ear trumpet here, and go back to the Windy shaft.

Glass Jar & Umbrella

Now, you should carry just the smoking log and one rock in you inventory. Go up a screen, and left a screen to arrive at the Bear Pit. Don't touch the bear because it will hurt you. Pick up the Glass Jar, drop the rock, and return to the surface.

Pick up the umbrella that you drop earlier, and head right a screen. With the umbrella, you can carry the smoking log safely through the rain. Ignore the Sharp Dagger there because it is useless.

Jar of Honey

Head right a screen, and the smoke from that log will pacify the killer bees. Drop the smoking log here, and use the jar under the bees hive to get Jar of Honey.

Heavy Rocks x2

Return to the Windy shaft, and leave the umbrella on the right hand side. Head to the quarry, and pick up two Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, and leave one rock on the cloud above this screen (it important later).

Head to the Bear Pit, drop the honey in the middle of the room, and quickly jump right to avoiding the bear. The honey lure the bear forward and you now can jump left over the bear using the mushrooms there.

Pot of Pepper, Pile of Bones, Glass Jar, & Aqualung

Quickly head to the left, and use the mushroom there to reach a Cozy Cavern. Pick up the Pot of Pepper and the Pile of Bones there. Head right a screen, and pick up Magic Star #22. Return to the Bear Pit, wait until the bear ate all the honey, and pick up the empty Glass Jar that he left behind.

Drop the rock that you carry, and return to the surface. Head left to the starting screen, then drop the jar and the bones (you must keep the pepper). Pick up the aqualung that you leave earlier, and head all the way left until you reach the Vast Lake.

Some Flippers

Jump into the whale, and use the pepper when the whale reach the right-end of it path. The whale will sneeze, and it will allow you to ride its spout up into the some clouds above. From there, jump to the right and collect Some Flippers in the cloud there. Jump left to the previous cloud, and jump into the lake (with flippers, you now can swim using the "Jump" button).

Sinclair ZX81

Jump into the whale, and use the pepper when the whale reach the left-end of it path. The spout that it sneezes will allow you to get to the lake-side cliff top. Pick up Magic Star #23 there, stay at the left side of this screen, and jump upward to reach some cloud above. Pick up Magic Star #24 there, and stand on the left-end of the upper most cloud. Jump left to the next screen, to land on another cloud.

Using the clouds there; jump left again a screen, and pick up Magic Star #25 there. Fall down from that cloud, and you'll arrive at the Cavern Wall. Talk to Denzil, and he'll give his Sinclair ZX81 to you. You can drop the pepper because you don't need it anymore.

Tuft of Grass #2

From there; head right a screen to a Woody Grove, and pick up Tuft of Grass near the fruit there to uncover the Magic Star #26. Drop it after you is done.

Leaves

Pick up the right Leaves of the right most tree at the same screen to uncover the Magic Star #27. Drop the leaves after you is done.

Sticky Tape

Jump down to the Lake Bottom, swim left two screens, and pick up Magic Star #28 there. Go down two screens, and left a screen. Swim left to the next screen through the hidden path in the upper left wall. In the next screen, pick up the Sticky Tape.

Now, return all the way back to the starting screen, then drop the sticky tape, aqualung, and flippers that you carry there.

Heavy Rocks x2

Go to the quarry, and pick up two Heavy Rocks. Return to Theo's Grotto, and give him Sinclair ZX81 to return Denzil home. Drop all rock that you carry, and return to the surface.

Heavy Rocks x3 & Aqualung

Go to the starting screen and drop the Sinclair ZX81 there. Go to the quarry, and pick up three Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, and pick up the aqualung that you drop earlier. Head right to the Windy Shaft, fall down five screens, and head right a screen (to arrive at the Man-Eating Plant). Drop the aqualung and all rocks in this screen, and return back to the surface.

Heavy Rocks X3, Pile of Bones, & Aqualung

Go to the quarry, and pick up three Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, and pick up the pile of bones that you left earlier. Go back to the Man-Eating Plant, drop all rocks, and pick up the aqualung. Use the bones on the man-eating plant, and it'll gobble you up until you reach the plant's root.

Tasty Seaweed

Pick up the Magic Star #29 that is hidden behind the purple seaweed in the left. Head right two screens, and pick up the Tasty Seaweed (small purple seaweed) there. Pick up the Magic Star #30 in the same screen, and head right a screen. Pick up the Magic Star #31 that is hidden behind the blue seaweed in the right.

Once you've done; return to the plant's root, and touch the root to return back to the Man-Eating Plant. Drop the aqualung and bone here, and return to the surface.

Heavy Rocks X3, Flippers, Pile of Bones, & Aqualung

Go to the starting screen, and drop the tasty seaweed there. Go to the quarry, and pick up three Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, and pick up the flippers that you drop earlier. Go back to the Man-Eating Plant, drop all rocks, and then pick up the aqualung and bones.

Diamond Ring

Use bones to go to the plant's root, and head right to the Flooded Chamber. Then swim right, and then up until you reach the Sunken Shed. Talk to Daisy, and she'll give you her Diamond Ring. Pick up the Magic Star #32 in the same screen, and then make your way back to the Man-Eating Plant.

Drop the bones there, and head left to the Windy Shaft. Jump into the pit; and in the next screen, immediately land onto the exit in right (if you miss it, you will have to carry three rocks from the surface to reach this place). Head right a screen to reach the Control Room, and drop your aqualung and flippers here.

Head left, and jump again to the pit. In the next screen; immediately land onto the exit that leads to Theo's Grotto in the left (if you miss it, you will have to carry two rocks from the surface). Walk left two screens to reach Theo's Grotto, and give him the diamond ring to return Daisy home. Drp that ring there.

Heavy Rocks x4

Return to the surface, head to the quarry, and pick up three Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, and pick up another Heavy Rock that you leave on the cloud above that screen earlier (if not, leave one rock on the cloud there, and get one more from the quarry).

Ceramic Lid, Glass Jar, & Umbrella

You must have four rocks in your inventory, and then jump into the Windy Shaft. You now will reach the bottom most part of Windy shaft. Pick up the Ceramic Lid there, drop all rocks, and return to the surface.

Go to the starting screen, and pick up the glass jar that you left earlier. Head back right a screen, and pick up the umbrella in the right side of the screen. Jump in to the Windy Shaft, and the umbrella will allow you to be blown into the sky. Try to land on the cloud above.

Glowing Jar

From that cloud, jump left and then up to reach the screen with the fireflies. When the firefly is close to you, catch it in the jar, and Dizzy will automatically bash the lid on top. You'll get the Glowing Jar in the process. Stand on the left-edge of the left most cloud, jump to the left, and pick up the Magic Star #33 there.

Stand on the left-edge of the left most cloud, and let yourself fall down. You'll land on the cloud in the screen below. Pick up the Magic Star #34 there, and continue walking to the right until you land on the ground in the right-side of a Deep Pit. Head left a screen to the starting screen, and drop your umbrella there.

Heavy Rocks x2 & Tasty Seaweed

Head to the quarry, and pick up two Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, then pick up the tasty seaweed that you left earlier. Go to the Windy Shaft, fall down three screens, and walk right four screens through the Mining Shaft. Use the mushroom there to get up to the Passage Junction. Head left a screen, and you now can see through the Dark, Spooky Cave because you have the glowing jar with you.

Glass Slipper

Use the tasty seaweed to scare the vampire bats, and then quickly pick up the Magic Star #35 under the water there. Head left a screen, jump across the water, and avoid the water drops. Talk to Dora, and she'll give you her Glass Slipper (don't dump your rocks).

Return to the Windy Shaft, and then head to Theo's Grotto. Talk to Theo, and give him the glass slipper to return Dora home. Drop the gloving jar now to let the firefly free, and then dump the empty jar, glass slipper, and both rocks as well. Now, return to the surface.

Heavy Rocks x2, Sinclair ZX81, Iron Hammer, Aqualung, and Flippers

Head to the quarry, and pick up two Heavy Rocks. Return to the starting screen, then pick up Sinclair ZX81 and hammer that you left earlier. Go to the Windy Shaft, fall down four screens, and head right two screen to return to the Control Room.

Drop all rocks, and pick up aqualung and flippers. Plug-in the ZX81 next to the big screen there to turns on a transporter pipe in the room to the right. Head right two screens, and pick up the Magic Star #36 there. Return left a screen, and walk through the purple transporter pipe to reach the Pumping Station.

Fishing Net

Jump down a screen, and pick up the Magic Star #37 there. Head right three screen to reach the far end of the pumping station (make sure that you're wearing your swimming gear). Stand below the white cast iron plug (that blocking the pipe), and use hammer on it. The plug will be removed, and the entire pumping station becomes flooded.

Drop the hammer here, and swim through the purple pipe to reach the Reserve Tank. Jump over the pipe entrance (it's hard), and pick up the Fishing Net there.

Comfy Pillow

Return to the flooded chamber through the same pipe, and swim up a screen. Talk to Dozy, and he'll give you his Comfy Pillow.

Iron Railing

Head down a screen, left two screens, and pick up the right Iron Railing next to oil drum to uncover Magic Star #38 (drop it when you is done). From there; swim up a screen, and pick up Magic Star #39. Swim left a screen, and jump into the purple pipe to return to the Substation. Drop the aqualung and flippers in the Control Room, and head left to the Windy Shaft.

Jump into the pit, and in the next screen; immediately land onto the exit that leads to Theo's Grotto in the left (if you miss it, you will have to carry two rocks from the surface). Walk left two screens to reach Theo's Grotto, and give him the comfy pillow to return Dozy home. Drop the pillow there, and return to the surface.

Fluffle Collar & Heavy Rocks x3

Head to a Deep Pit; then use the net to catch pogie, and remove his collar. Pick up Fluffle Collar, and then go to the quarry to get three Heavy Rocks.

Go to the Windy Shaft, fall down four screens, and walk left a screen to reach a Spare Ore Crusher. Stand on the left-end side of the lowest floor there, and jump into the crusher (it important, to avoid you from being crushed by that ore crusher). Carefully pick up the Magic Star #40, and return right a screen.

Drop two rocks, go up a screen, and head left two screens to Theo's Grotto. Talk to Theo, and give him the collar to return Pogie home.

Knotted String

You should already found all 40 stars to allow Theo to rescue everyone. Talk to Theo again, and he'll use the last five stars to send himself home, and leave you behind alone. Before leaving, Theo tells you that you can return home with the help of his string and three other hidden objects. Pick up Knotted String that he left; then drop the collar and rocks there.

Thin Sticks

Head to Dylan's Hole. Stand on the left most walls, and jump to the left to arrive at the Secret Chamber. Pick up Thin Sticks there, and return to the surface. Drop the knotted string and thin sticks in the starting screen.

Heavy Rocks x2, Aqualung, and Flippers

Pick up two Heavy Rocks in the quarry, and return to the Windy Shaft. Fall down four screens, drop all rocks, and walk right a screen to return to the Control Room. Pick up aqualung and flippers, and use the transporter pipe to return to the Pumping Station. Go down a screen, and right three screens to reach the right-end of the Pumping Station.

Wall Panel and Pretty Cloth


Swim right through the hidden path in middle-right wall to reach the illusion screen. There is a hidden item in this room. To get it, refer the image in the right to reach the middle right-wall. Press "Action" button to collect Wall Panel and it will reveal another item. Collect the Pretty Cloth, and drop the useless wall panel.

Sticky Tape, Knotted String, & Thin Sticks

Now, make your way back to the Windy Shaft, and return to the surface. Go to the starting screen; then pick up the sticky tape, knotted string, and thin sticks that you left earlier.

One Fab Kite

When you have pretty cloth, sticky tape, knotted string, and thin sticks in your inventory, use them to make One Fab Kite. Go to the Windy Shaft, and the kite will takes you to previously unreached clouds (two screens above the Windy Shaft).

Drill Bit

Stand on the edge of right cloud, and jump to the right until you land on another cloud. Pick up Drill Bit there, and return to the cloud in the previous screen. Jump left to reach the cloud above, and quickly head left a screen. Use the drill bit on the machine there to return home.

Congratulation, you completed this game...

Characters

  • Dizzy - The hero of the Dizzy series. This time, he must rescue all of his friend that trapped in the underworld.
  • Theo the Wizard - Dizzy Friend that is trapped at Theo's Grotto. His spells is needed to save everyone.
  • Grand Dizzy - The elder of the Yolk Folk. He is trapped in The Dank Room.
  • Dylan - Dizzy Friend that loves the nature. He is trapped underground in Dylans Hole
  • Denzil - The Yolk Folk member that think he is cool. He is trapped on the top of the cliffs of the Cavern Wall.
  • Daisy - Dizzys girlfriend that trapped in The Flooded Chamber.
  • Dora - Dizzys sister that trapped in A Dark Spooky Cave.
  • Dozy - Dizzy Friend that loves to sleep. He is trapped on a high ledge in The Pumping Station.
  • Poogie - This little Fluffle is Theo's familiar, and considered the pet of the Yolkfolks. He is trapped at the bottom of A Deep Pit.

Hazards

  1. Hard Ground - Dizzy will lose some of his health, if he falls from high places.
  2. Fire/ Torches - Dizzy will lose his health rapidly upon contact with the flames.
  3. Deep Water - Dizzy will lose his health rapidly if he stay to long underwater without an aqualung.
  4. Falling Rock - Dizzy will be crushed by the rock and die instantly, if he not careful when try to collect Magic Star #8.
  5. Water Drop - Dizzy will lose his health rapidly upon contact with the water drops.
  6. Killer Fish - Dizzy will lose his health rapidly upon contact with the fishes.
  7. Killer Crab - Dizzy will lose his health rapidly upon contact with the crabs.
  8. The Beast - Dizzy will be swallowed and killed instantly upon contact with the beast.
  9. Bear - Dizzy will lose 1/3 of his health upon contact with the bear.
  10. Killer Bees - Dizzy will lose his health rapidly upon contact with the killer bees.
  11. Vampire Bat - Dizzy will lose his health rapidly upon contact with the vampire bats.
  12. Ore Crusher - Dizzy will be killed instantly if he stay at the very center of ore crusher near the Windy Shaft.
