A Cult hit for fans only

Super Robot Wars is one of those "cult" games, only for true fans of the mecha genre. similar to a board game and a mix of Warcraft, In brief, you control a number of robot from many different series, such as Gundam W to Neon Genesis Evangelion. You control different robots in different scenario levels, aiming to fulfill the objectives while keeping all your robots alive.

The plot basically involves nearly all mechas in the genre teaming up to battle the evil DC, the villian of the game. New characters were even made up for the game, such as the ever stylish Cybaster.

Gameplay: 8
Enormous amounts of strategy is needed for this game. Different robots have diferent stats, such as the heavy firing but slow Gp-03 Dendrobium Gundam or the quick but weak Gp-O1 core fighter. Each robot have their trademark attacks such as Gundam Wing's Twin Buster Rifle map attack or even Evangelion-01 going beserk, all can be found in the game. Easy as it sound though, the strategy part kicks in as attacks are limited. Should you map blast all the cronies now or save it for the bosses? hmmm?

Video: 7
The graphics are generally above average in the game, but not as good as we wish, Battle scenes involve SD gundams in stationary poses flowing in a direction, with a gun or whatever popping up for their attack. Nothing great, Icons of the robots are used in the map, filled with above average colors and textures. The outstanding part is the Videos found in the game however, found in cutscenes. with anime graphics, fans will enjoy watching them over andover in the collection screen. Even Evangelion-01 going beserk is put in anime and redone with style.

Audio: 9
the audio is a great factor in the game. voices are crisp with every chracter, from Shinji's "kuahhh" or Domon's "ikraiii", all fans are sure to shout along, (and probably get arrest or something). the music changes to the different robot attacking, so It could go from Cybasters tune to Domon's "flying in the sky" when tides change.

Replayability: 5
Chances are, if you manage to beat the game, you'll want to stop. Although there are two "modes"to choose from giving different (slightly) characters and story line, there isn't much replay value going on.

Rent or to Buy: Well If you want to beat this game (yeah right) chances are you won't be able to beat it in the few days you rent it, so you'll have to buy the game to beat it. As an upside, you can always watch the Videos and listen to the tunes. Btw, if you do beat it, I presume you're some weirdo with and IQ excess of 60000000...
