Stats & Abilities

  2. Starting Choices
  3. Stats
  4. Abilities

1) Overview

As Sora becomes more powerful over the course of the game, his stats will increase, he will learn new abilities, and his inventory and equipment slots will increase in number.

There are a number of different ways to increase these various items, as follows:

  • Level up by gaining experience
  • Fight certain battles during the story (these Bonuses give fixed rewards and are earned one time only, usually after a boss battle)
  • Use Boost items to permanently increase a particular stat
StatHow to Increase
HPFixed Bonuses after certain battles
MPFixed Bonuses after certain battles
APLevel up, use AP Boosts
Focus (Sora only)Always 100
StrengthLevel up, use Strength Boosts
MagicLevel up, use Magic Boosts
DefenseLevel up, use Defense Boosts
AbilitiesGained on specific level ups (up to level 50; Sora only), fixed Bonuses after certain battles

Armor SlotsFixed Bonuses after certain battles
Accessory SlotsFixed Bonuses after certain battles

2) Starting Choices

At the very beginning of the game, you are asked to make two decisions (as is the custom with Kingdom Hearts games).

Decision 1

The first choice is between Wisdom, Vitality, or Balance. This determines your starting HP and MP stats as follows:

WisdomVitalityBalance
HP (any Mode but Critical Mode)90120105
MP (any Mode but Critical Mode)120100110
HP (Critical Mode)456052
MP (Critical Mode)605055

Decision 2

The second choice is between Guardian, Warrior, and Mystic. This determines which levels Sora learn abilities, per the table below.

3) Stats

I suppose natural stats would refer to stats gained from leveling up only (no increases from the fixed Bonuses). However, considering most players won't reach level 99 before receiving any stat increases from fixed Bonuses, there's not much value in showing everything broken out separately (other than for curiosity purposes). Instead, I opted to show before-and-after "snapshots" for each character, comparing starting stats to end-of-game level 99 stats (assumes no Boost items used, but includes all fixed Bonuses and collecting all phantom Soras).

To make this even more confusing, playing on Critical Mode changes HP and MP values, so I added an additional rows to reflect this. Adding on even more layers, running through the Re Mind DLC will allow you to increase your max item slots and MP! A second table shows the additional stat increases you can obtain from Re Mind.

** There is a soft cap here in the sense that you gain absolutely no benefit from increasing AP beyond the minimum needed to equip every ability. However, feel free to keep piling on the AP Boosts if you must. I think 280 is the natural max but correct me if I'm wrong.

Your secondary allies' stats are based on the following two tables as follows:

Table B - Buzz, Rapunzel, Mike Wazowski

4) Abilities

And here is the giant list of abilities. Because of the way the game categorizes the abilities (and because it tends to list nearly every possible action you can do as an ability), I had to break the list up into various tables, as follows:

  1. Action Abilities
  2. Mobility Abilities
  3. Support Abilities
Action Abilities

First are the "Action" abilities. These will let you perform... well, actions. All the characters start with some and you'll gain new ones for Sora, Donald, and Goofy as you progress.

Support Abilities

Support abilities are really the bread and butter of how you'll beef up your characters (now I'm hungry). As you can see from the massive table below, there are plenty of ways to learn these abilities. Some you will receive permanently (and will have to be installed using AP), some will be available to you as long as you have a weapon or piece or armor or accessory equipped, and some are temporary (from eating food).
