The update file cannot be used. (CE-34788-0)?

  1. When turned on the PS4 gives the message:
    'Cannot start the PS4.
Connect the DUALSHOCK 4 using the USB cable, and press the PS button.'
This step works fine and gives the message:
'Connect a USB storage device that contains an update file for reinstallation for version 2.51 or later.
You can download the update file for reinstallation from playstation.com.'
Following the instructions listed on the official site (Putting the update file inside an UPDATE folder, inside a PS4 folder on a USB drive) and connecting the USB, the PS4 will cite the error message as listed in the title.
I have made sure the USB drive is formatted correctly and that all file and folder names are correct.
    Any suggestions?

  1. Are you installing a new hard drive?

    If so:
    I had the same issue.
You may be using the wrong file.
The update file is approx. 235MB. The firmware file is approx. 785MB.(This is the one you need)

    www.playstation.com/en-us/support/system-updates/ps4/#newinstallation

Scroll all the way down and click the black: "Download now" button.

(*This file is used for formatting a hard drive and will erase all data you haven't backed up*)

    Good luck.
