Walkthrough / Before You Start
Tip for Console Players: If you haven’t played the Devil May Cry 5 demo yet, it may be worth doing. It’s unreasonably difficult for anyone not familiar with the series, but so long as you create a save, that save will be recognized by the core game and you’ll earn an easy 30,000 Red Orbs, which are the currency you use to purchase upgrades and items. According to InstinctEpyon, these orbs aren't available to PC players because Capcom didn't release a demo on PC. Thanks for the heads-up! |
Welcome to Devil May Cry 5! If you haven’t played the series or similar game (such as Bayonetta), I highly recommend starting on the Human Difficulty. The core walkthrough is based on the Devil Hunter difficulty, but all strategies should work on Human as well. The only external bonus came from having save game data from the demo.
There’s also no shame in turning on the Auto-Assist mode. It’ll help string combos together, but if you choose to do something more complex intentionally, it’ll allow you to do it, giving you room to get used to the fighting system. Doing so does not bar you from anything. At worst, you may be penalized during the end of mission scoring, but you can replay any level at any time if you want to try to bump up your score.
| The Camera Trick |
There's a huge trick for dealing with enemies in this game. On lower difficulties when you're trying to wrap your head around the game, it's not worth the additional distraction, but on higher difficulties, this is an absolute life-saver (and works in every core DMC game except maybe 2). While most people would advise you to pull your camera out and swing it around to look at enemies, don't! Especially on higher difficulties after you've learned how to anticipate enemy location and know how to listen for their audio cues, turn the camera so it EXCLUDES them. All but maybe two non-boss enemies in the game will not initiate an attack if you can't see them. Once more: Enemies off-screen WILL NOT INITIATE an attack. Use this to your advantage. And if it makes you feel a little dirty -- don't. This has been in the series since the very first game despite changing engines. The developers know this is in the game. |
