Secret Missions
Here you’ll find videos and strategies for each of the game’s Secret Missions. Remember that you have to stand in the glowing spot to line up the sigil and unlock the Secret Mission. Once it’s unlocked, you can access it any time you like from the Main Menu.
I see what you’re thinking. You’re thinking that these secret missions could be a great way to snag some Red Orbs quickly! Unfortunately, orbs gained from accessing the secret mission from the main menu don’t count (with the exception, perhaps, of the completion reward). Sorry! |
Secret Mission 01 - Eliminate all of the demons
The first secret mission can be found on Mission 02: Qliphoth. This mission is the tutorial mission and somewhat hard to miss. As you make your way through the level, you’ll find a room that has a large sigil on the wall, part of which is missing because of a doorway. Stand in the back corner of the room behind the bed and you’ll be able to line up the pieces of the sigil.
While there will be quite a few enemies in this mission, it’s nothing you haven’t seen before, and if you fail, you can always come back again to try later. Considering that, at the very least, this is good practice. Use this to your advantage and being extra aggressive. After all, you only have 90 seconds to complete this mission.
The first wave of enemies will be a group of five Empusa. As before, be aggressive to keep them from attacking, and when things get bad, use Streak to push enemies back and create some space to work in.
After the five are defeated, three Hell Caina and two Green Empusa will spwan. Your main target should by your flying buddies. If they go unchecked, they’ll keep the Caina in the fight longer, which is not something you want during a timed fight. Get in the air and use your new Roulette Spin attack and the Wire Snatch move to take them out quickly.
With the Green Empusa out of the way, it’ll just be you and a small group of Caina. Bounce them around a little for some room, and then once again use the fountain to divide and conquer.
Secret Mission 02 – Don’t let any Red Empusa escape!
In Mission 03, you’ll eventually come to a stairwell in the sewers. Fall down to the bottom and find an archway blocked by a gate. Stand in the archway and look up to see the sigil that unlocks this mission.
The premise is simple: if you leave a Red Empusa alone too long, it’ll dig down and escape. This mission isn’t too tough, but it does require a little bit of luck, so don’t be disheartened if it takes a couple of tries. The key to this is that Punch Line you picked up earlier. If you don’t have one and you have trouble, you may want to return to this later.
Empusa 1 will spawn directly in front of you. Launch the Punch Line, start holding square/X to charge Blue Rose, and lay into it with Red Queen. You want to kill this as quickly as possible.
Empusa 2 will spawn in the corner you were looking at when the mission started. Rush over to it and use the same strategy. Use the charged shots either for extra damage or to hopefully keep the Empusa from running.
Not long after Empusa 2 spawns, Empusa 3 will spawn in the same corner (a little further back). Quickly finish 2 so you can start on 3 ASAP. You’re going to need to throw everything into Empusa 3 to take it down as quickly as possible.
You should hopefully have a moment to collect yourself. From this corner, do a 180 and start running towards the far corner. Begin charging Blue Rose again and rev up Red Queen.
Empusas 4, 5, and 6 will all spawn in that far corner at almost exactly the same time. You want to keep Punch Line going as much as possible because it will hit ALL of them. While that’s going, try using sweeping attacks like Streak.
The back two may be able to get away from you a bit, especially the back left. Make sure to keep an eye on them so you can hunt them down as soon as you finish the first one. If you need to chase two, try to shoot all of your charged shots at one while you chase down the other.
This is that part that’s largely luck. Sometimes you’ll be able to keep them locked down in that corner and it’s a breeze. Sometimes they both get away and run behind the vents and split up. When that happens, there’s not much you can do about it, so don’t worry if it falls apart. The beginning is pretty reliable and quick, so you should have this taken care of soon.
Secret Mission 03 - Collect all of the Red Orbs
Towards the end of Mission 04, you'll have to have used the first Nidhogg hatchling to open the way to the previous fragment. To the left of that fragment is another root blocking your path. You'll need to use the Nidhogg Hatchling that you can obtain in the back alley just beyond Blue Fragment #8. This will get you into the building. Climb the stairs, jump through the hole in the ceiling in the next room and look out the busted window.
Make sure you have Quickplay learned from the Abilities section because you're going to need to collect some Red Orbs pretty fast for this secret mission.
From the start, head left, and follow the corridor of bookcases to collect 5 Red Orbs. This path will come to a dead end with several bookcases huddled to block your path. If you're riding Shadow at this point, simply ride straight through these to get Orb 6.
From here, turn towards the middle and ride through the tables in a big circle to quickly collect 8 more Orbs. Once your return to where you started, pull to the right and look up. You've got 6 more orbs broken into bunches of three. Put yourself at the base of the first set and then double jump through them in a straight line. Do the same for the next set and you'll have your victory!
Secret Mission 04 - Kill all demons without injury
After your second encounter with the giant leg (during a battle with Caina, Antenora, and Pyrobats on an elevated platform) in Mission 05, you'll drop into an area with boarded-up scaffolding ahead and a white dumpster to your left. Summon Nightmare and he'll destroy the scaffolding when he arrives. Ahead and to the right will be a very tall set of yellow stairs. Take them to the top and look to the left to find the mission.
This is one seriously tough Secret Mission that is made significantly easier if you have a large DT meter and the Trigger Heart ability. There's no harm/shame in coming back for this later.
Since this battle takes place in a very small space, you're going to want to keep a very close eye on the area around V. When Griffon is free, double jump frequently to get a good view of where enemies are and where they are engaging.
The battle starts with a lone Caina directly in front of you. Rush it as a team because this "safe" area is about to become unsafe. Try to take it out quickly, and as soon as the two Antenora drop in, summon nightmare. Focus your energy on taking them out quickly and let the weaker enemies get taken out as collateral.
After the Caina finally falls, a new wave will come with two Antenora and three Caina. At this point, pick whichever companion you think is stronger and juice them up with some DT while you focus on staying safe, executing enemies, and reading (in that order).
A single double jump should be enough to cover the entire arena and you should absolutely do that if you see a safe corner. You being safe frees up your allies to do more damage. You want this fight over as quickly as possible because once your DT gauge is empty, you're going to have to split your focus between offense and defense to finish this.
Again, this is likely to be one of the toughest Secret Missions, so there's no harm in coming back to this later. Hopefully, you'll trash these enemies in short order and have your victory!
Secret Mission 05 - Do not touch the ground
During Mission 08, you'll take your third Bloodstream (the bloody elevator). After landing, you'll see the second lava elevator in this level. After fighting two Baphomet and two Riots, take the elevator to the top and hop off on the left. Turn and face the middle of the room to spot a hole in the wall just beyond a Red Orb Cluster. Use the Red Orb Cluster to line up your jump and use Streak to launch off of the platform. Use Air Hike or Gerbera to correct in the air towards the end of the launch and land in the hole.
After landing in the hole, walk through and drop into the room beyond. In the middle of this room is the glowing light. Turn around and look up at the hole you came through to find the sigil.
You can alternatively take the lava elevator to a mid-level ledge on the right side. You'll need to double jump or use some other locomotion from the elevator to reach it. From there, you can use the two Grim Grips to fling yourself up to the hole. I find this trickier and less reliable than the previous method, but you can compensate for a lack of the tools needed above (Streak, Gerbera, Air Hike) with impeccable skill.
This secret mission, in concept, is fairly simple, but that makes it hard for me to help because the difficulty comes from execution. You'll need to shoot the Grim Grip ahead of you, latch on to it, fly through the air, and at the apex, shoot the next, and so on. You'll have to get into the timing and understand that there are tricks in the timing intentionally.
The indicator for the apex of your swing is right when Nero releases from the previous grip. That's when you should hit the button, and the time between when you see that and hit the button is roughly how long it takes for him to hit his true apex. From there, lock on to the next grip (just hold the button), shoot, and immediately latch on to the next platform.
Be careful of getting too far into your rhythm, however. A lot of these Grips have a similar pull time. It'll take you roughly the same amount of time from when you latch on to one as when you latch on to the next. It'll be hard to not get into a subconscious rhythm, but it's important not to get too into it because there are a couple of grips that have a slightly different timing, and if you stick with the rhythm instinctively, you'll likely lose too much air or be out of range of the grip and fall.
If you have Air Hike, it's possible to use it to save yourself if things go wrong, but I'd just as well ignore it so that you don't have happen to you what happened to me: I swing on the last grip and instinctively panicked because it felt like I wasn't going to land on the platform, so I tried to use Air Hike to correct it and messed up my landing. All I had to do was not do anything. Doh!
Secret Mission 06 - Eliminate all demons within 20 seconds.
You'll find this mission part way through Mission 09. Towards the beginning of the mission, you'll find a crumbled wall with a Gold Orb that you can destroy with Nightmare, or you can opt to go a very long route around the wall. You'll arrive in a large area with a wall of arches on the left. In this area, you'll fight two Proto Angelos, two Pyrobats, and a Baphomet (on Devil Hunter).
If you follow the row of arches, they'll end by a large boulder with a White Orb next to it. Wrap around the boulder to the left and you'll find a large archway blocked by vines. Summon Nightmare to get rid of the vines. Within this room, you'll find Blue Orb Fragment #16. Jump onto the wall behind the fragment and climb to the raised section. Turn around to find the sigil over the archway you just came through.
This mission tasks you with eliminating all enemies in the level in just 20 seconds. Traditional combat isn't going to cut it here, unfortunately. Fortunately, that makes it even easier.
Directly ahead will be a tentacle. Just behind that tentacle, two Caina will spawn. Run up and defeat the tentacle with Shadow and Griffon as quickly as you can. As soon as it's dead and the Caina are in the arena enough to be damaged, use your DT to summon Nightmare. He will land on top of them for massive damage. Lay into them with your two other companions if they aren't ready to be executed. Once they are dead, you'll be done.
It might take a couple of tries just to get the rhythm down, but once you get this strategy down, you shouldn't even come close to running out of time (relatively speaking).
Secret Mission 07 - Aim for their weak point and take them down with a single bullet.
Late in Mission 10, you'll come to a long room where you're introduced to the Hellbat. There are two pulsating doors in this room. Defeat all of the enemies in this room quickly. When they are gone, look at the stairs leading out and then turn right. Walk through the door to find a long hallway sloping upwards. If you found a room with Red Orbs and a Gold Orb, you went through the wrong door.
Climb the slope and the walls beyond. At the top, you'll find a large room with a platform in the middle. Stand on that and look up to find the sigil.
You may already see where this is going. It will be you and one Death Scissors alone in a library. Your goal is to hit only their scissors until the Death Scissors rages with red energy. At that point, you can eliminate them with a single ranged attack. Doing this under normal conditions already takes a bit of practice, but doing it with a timer makes it much more difficult.
There is a trick, however. It's also possible to send this enemy into a rage by parrying their attack rather than breaking their scissors. This is the strategy we're going to use here, and we're going to have to bait that attack out. While this is a pretty solid strategy, nailing the time and coordination without getting knocked around will take a few tries at least.
At the start of the battle, run up to the death scissors and hit them until they parry your attack. Your attack will stop at this point and the Death Scissors will lift the scissors up over their right soldier (your left) before swinging them around at you. Back up and stay away because it will be several consecutive swings. (If you're particularly brave, this attack can actually be parried, but good luck on the timing!)
Their next attack is usually a pretty strong one. Get up close to them and they'll open their scissors very wide. Just before they lunge in and close the scissors, swing your sword to parry the attack. They'll get angry and turn red. At this point, any single ranged attack will kill them instantly.
Good luck! It will take some practice until you get the timing down for this, but you'll get it!
Secret Mission 08 - Maintain an S Stylish Rank
During Mission 11, you'll go through a gate and enter a ruined mansion. Jump through the hole in the nearby tower and drop into the tiled room beyond. There will be a small, shallow pit on the left side. Destroy the Blood Clot here and then return to the tower you just jump through. Jump up to the hole in the wall above you (not on your current level). In this room, you'll find the glowing spot on the left and the sigil directly ahead.
This mission will undoubtedly be easier if you have more abilities and more familiarity with Dante. You may want to come back when you feel more comfortable switching between his Styles and Weapons. In fact, returning to this mission after finishing Mission 12 alone will likely help considerably.
There's not much I can recommend here except variety. Try NOT to use moves like Stinger or other moves that push enemies away unless you're desperate. A few ranged shots will maintain your rank a little bit and the Trickster style can close the gap without pushing your enemy away.
Also, try to spend as much time in the air as possible. Obviously, variety is key to maintaining your style rank so you can't do this indefinitely, but your combos should be able to kill a fair amount of time while keeping you from getting hit (which almost certainly put you under S instantly).
Finally, use your DT as a last-ditch effort. Stinger during DT has a much longer range and will likely land you in a corner with several enemies. It'll also catch enemies off to the sides. This can really amp up your style, but it should be used sparingly to save your combo.
Secret Mission 09 - Stay in the air for 15 seconds
During Mission 12, you'll have to solve a puzzle by filling a statue fountain with blood. Once completed, the statue will move, revealing a cave underneath. Go down the stairs, through the archway, and climb some rubble on the other side. When you reach the top, turn around. You can either cross by using the Trickster style's mid-air dash (O/B in mid-air) or use Stinger (R1/RB + Forward + Triangle/Y) to launch yourself off of the ledge and then wall jump onto the platform. Once there, turn around to find the sigil
The concept of the mission is pretty simple, but it can be a little tricky to execute. Enemy Step and Air Hike are very helpful, and the Highside ability for Cavaliere is crucial.
Start the mission by targeting the Pyrobat. Targeting the Antenora will cause trouble with your inputs as he crosses under you. Jump into the air and start performing Highside (R1/RB + Back + Triangle/Y) while in mid-air. If you nail your timing, you'll start climbing upward. Eventually, you'll still start to drift down, at which point you can use Air Hike or Enemy Step (on the Antenora) to prolong your airtime. And if you end up hitting the Antenora with Highside, remember that you can hold down that attack button to stretch the attack.
It will likely take a little practice to get it right, but with some practice, you can probably stay in the air for 20 seconds or more.
Secret Mission 10 - Get to the goal without touching the ground
During Mission 14, you'll enter a dream world. After you escape it, keep heading downward. You'll have to break a couple of Blood Clots. After breaking the second one, instead of continuing down the path, walk through where the clot was. Turn around, look up, and you'll find the sigil.
Well, this one's going to be tricky, isn't it? And to answer that, I say unequivocally yes!
The Difficult but "Expected" Method
The goal is pretty far away, and if you want to glide down as "expected", you can. It's a little far to glide all the way. Stand on the right side of the ledge (it's a little higher), jump off the edge towards the tunnel and at the top, start swinging your cane by pressing O/B. This will carry you a little way forward while stalling your fall.
When you start losing altitude, don't panic. Wait until you fall low enough that you're below the top of the tunnel. At this point perform a Gambit (R1/RB + Forward + O/B). This will teleport you a fair distance into the tunnel. Finally, double jump and glide with Griffon the rest of the way.
The Easy and Probably ACTUALLY Expected Method
When you start this mission, you should have a full DT bar. So long as you have learned Promotion, you can call Nightmare, drop off the ledge, perform Promotion to hop on his shoulder and then stroll over to the end. This might not be possible depending on how much DT you have or if you don't have Promotion (obviously), but if you have those, you can sleep your way to completing this mission.
Secret Mission 11 - Head straight for the goal!
Partway through Mission 15, you'll come to your first Divinity Statue. Equip a Gerbera and walk behind it. You'll come to a cliff where you'll get a tutorial about surfing on your Punch Line, which is cool but much more difficult than using Gerbera to do the same thing.
Use Gerbera to cross this first gap and then use it to scale the ramps as you scale this mountain clockwise. After climbing a particularly large ramp with rocks jutting out to block you, you'll land at the top with a huge wall to your left. From here, turn right and step on the small section of land sticking out to the right overlooking the gap you just crossed. Turn around and look up to find this sigil.
This mission is another one that's simple in concept but difficult in execution. You only have 30 seconds to get to the goal. If you don't make it, you'll have to start over. And it's quite easy to fall and lose a lot of time. While neither are necessary, both Streak and Air Hike will help with this mission.
From the start, head forward. You'll see a wide, low platform directly ahead. Jump onto it and then walk to the left side of it (it's higher than the rest). From here, wall jump to the right and try to land on the lower section of the platform above on the right side.
Once you've landed on the top platform, turn around and face the ledge. Directly across, you'll see a narrow ledge with some spines on it (this should look familiar). Streak towards the edge to launch across at the small ledge. Land on that, turn right and jump to the platform above.
When you land, run ahead and then duck into the reddish tunnel on the left side. When you come out of that tunnel, you'll come to the hardest part of this Secret Mission. You'll have to climb this collapsing platforms again, and if you fall, you lose a lot of time.
Jump onto the stable platform on the left and wait for the platform directly ahead to open. Once it's open, jump onto it and turn 90 degrees to the right. There are TWO platforms here, and it's pretty easy to instinctively go for the one on the left. Don't -- you can't really reach it. Aim for the platform on the right, land on that, and then hop to the platform next time it. Finally, from this platform, jump to the ribbed wall just beyond it and wall jump up to the goal platform.
From here, run forward and collect your prize.
If you struggle with this, you're not alone. Mess up your timing or your alignment just a little and you'll miss the small section of a platform you can land on. Take the time to do each step correctly before trying to do them quickly. Before long, you'll have this.
Secret Mission 12 - Collect a set amount of Red Orbs
Partway through Mission 16, you'll come to a battle with two Hellbats and a Behemoth. After killing them, you'll come upon a giant pit. On the far side of the pit will be another ledge leading to different rewards. For the Secret Mission, drop off this ledge all the way to the bottom. There, you'll fight two Chaos and a Fury. Defeat them.
Walk to the edge of this room and hop down onto the platform below. Look down and to the left to find another ledge with a Red Crystal close by. Leap to that. Turn and face the middle of the giant pit and you'll see a ledge across the gap with a Large Red Crystal. Use Stinger and a Trickster dash to cross the gap. On the other side, cross into the next room.
Jump across the gap to the next platform. From here, look towards the middle of the room again to see a ledge leading to a small alcove. Jump to this ledge and get in the alcove. From here, turn around and look up to find the sigil.
At first, this may seem impossible. It's potentially the easiest Secret Mission in the game. Note that you may have to increase the level of Dr. Faust up to level 2 or 3 to make this work, but this strategy may actually work even at level 1 based on my tests.
The trick is simple -- you have a simple Empusa. What you may not know is that regular Empusa can become a proto-Red Empusa.
There are two pools of blood on the sides of this arena. Pick one and walk over to it. Stand on the other side of it to try to lure the Empusa over. If it freaks out and rushes over, you're probably good. Let it drink up the blood and it will turn into a Red Empusa.
At this point, simply killing the Red Empusa is probably worth 400 Red Orbs without even trying. Now we're going to hit it with Dr. Faust and kill it slowly.
Equip Dr. Faust and the Gunslinger Style. With these equipped, target the Empusa and hit the O/B over and over. Dante will throw his hat in a circle. The first time will put the hat on the enemy. Each time after that will cause it to drop orbs for the hat AND because it's a Red Empusa.
As far as I'm aware, this is the weakest attack available allowing for as many hits as possible.
with a level 3 Dr. Faust, I was getting somewhere in the vicinity of 1500 Red Orbs doing this, and all you have to do is be patient and hit a single button a few times.
