Walkthrough / Before You Start
Prologue
Sometimes long-running franchises like to toss you in the deep end while letting you play with all the cool toys before they are taken away. You’re in the deep end, and not only do you not have the cool toys, but you also don't have your right arm!
Despite your handicap, follow V down the slope ahead – we have a demon that needs killing! The path will curve right before giving you a tutorial about jumping. Make the first little hop, and then scale the second wall by jumping off of the wall after you reach the apex of your first jump.
Down the hill, you’ll encounter your first enemies: two Empusas.
| New Enemy: Empusa - 350 Health |
Empusas, for the most part, aren’t much of a threat. They move slowly and their attacks are slow with very little reach. A simple jump or dodge should be sufficient to dodge the rare attack, but the best defense against them is a good offense. Even your most basic attacks are enough to knock them off balance and stop an incoming attack. Just don't let yourself get surrounded because you forgot about these feeble enemies while chasing a more dangerous prey. Watch for pools of human blood on the ground (they'll have bones). If an Empusa drinks it, it will turn into a sort of Pink Empusa. It's nowhere near as durable or rewarding as Red Empuse, but they do still come with a Red Orb bonus! |
After defeating your first Empusa, you’ll earn some Red Orbs which are the currency of the game. You’ll be able to use these later to purchase abilities and items.
Two more Empusas will appear after you eliminate the first one. Two of them are usually not much worse than one because of their relative tameness. Make sure that the second enemy doesn’t get too close behind you while you’re fighting the first and you should be golden. Even just the basic attack combo should be more than a match, but if you’re comfortable, take the time to get a feel for your basic moves.
When these two are defeated, make your way down previously blocked descending path and make sure to pay attention to the next scene.
New Enemy: Green Empusa - 350 Health |
These are the healers for the enemy team, making them a good first target. They have attacks, but they are very rare until higher difficulties. Listen for a high pitched scream to indicate an attack, and then simply take a single step in ANY direction to avoid it. Using charged shots or Blue Rose's Color Up attack makes short work of them. You'll also be able to drag them out of the air using Nero's Wire Snatch ability starting in Mission 01. |
You’ll have two regular Empusa and a Green Empusa to deal with here. Jump into the air after the Green Empusa and take it out. Defeating it should reward you with your first Green Orb which will provide healing. After defeating the Green Empusa, this fight becomes even easier than the previous one because of the wide open space you have. Keep them both in front of you and swing away to make short work of them.
At some point during the battle, another Green Empusa will make an appearance, so make sure to watch for the black portal appearing in mid-air that will signify this. You’ll likely only have one enemy left by this point, so just finish up that before cleaning the floor with this one.
Ascent
After the cutscene, you’ll find yourself a path leading upwards. This is going to be a bit of a gauntlet, but it should hopefully provide just enough challenge for some good practice.
At the first curve, you’ll encounter an Empusa hurtling at you, and you’ll probably see a two more Empusa coming out of the ground ahead. Lay into that first one quickly to get rid of it before the other two even have a chance to engage.
After finishing those two off, there will be one last Empusa up at the next bend. You may notice some pods along the side of the path. You can destroy these if you like, but unlike in previous games, you’ll gain nothing for it. Climb the path, defeat this last enemy, and then drop off the end to join your allies.
The Final Showdown
Walk up to the barrier ahead to enter the arena and join Dante.
All I can say here is do your best. I hope you learned a lot in the past few minutes, otherwise, you’re about to get smoked. You’ve been preparing for this for your entire 15 minutes. You’ve got this.
You really don’t, though. You’re intended to lose this fight, but it doesn’t appear to be winnable at all. No damage seems to be done. That doesn’t mean you can’t give it a try. This fight is actually fantastic practice for dealing with bosses. Try and stay alive as long as you can without sacrificing offensive output.
For the truly industrious, it IS actually possible to defeat Urizen in this battle, but you'll probably want to do that on Human after you've finished Son of Sparda...
Good luck! When you get knocked out, you'll unlock the Fall From Grace achievement.
