Walkthrough / Before You Start
Mission 18: Awakening
The Double Kalina
You'll start this level with a new weapon. If you missed the Kalina Ann hidden in Mission 11, you'll get one here. If you got that, you'll get a second Kalina Ann, which means Dante can dual wield. The Double Kalina Ann has some of its own abilities.
With that said, you may want to save some of your Red Orbs at this point unless you're missing some of the more crucial skills such as Trigger Heart, Air Hike, or Stinger. If you've made it this far, you're pretty adequately equipped for the rest of the game.
Griffon
The mission will start with Dante immediately confronted by V's familiars. Nightmare and Shadow will slink off and you'll be left with Griffon.
Watch for his lightning attacks, most of which you'll be familiar with from playing as V. You should have enough reach to hit him with your sword as well as your Sword Formation blades. Remember to use Swordmaster and charge up your homing blades if he runs away from you. Hammer him until he enters a stalemate. Do as much damage as possible at this point and hopefully you can finish this battle now.
After the battle, hop onto the platform on the left for a White Orb and then approach the exit from the right. Before leaving, you'll see some large steps leading up with a Caina at the top. Climb up these steps to find a walkway and another Caina. Crush them and follow the path to the end to find a Blood Clot.
Destroy the blood clot and jump off the right side of this platform. Follow this path to find two Pyrobats and a Scudo Angelo. Kill them and head for the Bloodstream terminal ahead. Enter the stream to come out a floor up.
At the top, crush the two Red Crystals ahead. Follow the path until it opens into a large arena where you'll be confronted by Shadow and the most nostalgic music in the game.
Shadow
Shadow is a much tougher enemy. His attacks are more aggressive, faster, and happen in your face. When he wants, he can merge into the ground to avoid your attacks.
Regardless, you've seen these moves before. When you see him tense up for an attack, dodge. Since most of his attacks happen in a straight line, they can all be avoided with a simple side-step.
It can be tempting to hit Shadow with DT to make your life easier, but you'll need to face him again later (so take the practice) and you'll want as much DT as you can muster in just a moment.
When you're done with Shadow, continue forward and stay right at the fork for a White Orb. Return to the fork and turn right to see several ledges leading up the wall.
| Before climbing, here's what you're looking at. On the way up, you'll fight an Empusa. At the top, three Red Empusa will spawn. Once they start spawning, activate Sin DT. You need to defeat all three of these before any of them escape. If you can do this, you'll get the last Blue Orb Fragment. If your Sin DT runs out, switch to regular DT to finish them off. |
Start climbing and take out the Empusa here. When you get to the top, wait for the three Red Empusa to start appearing and then destroy them with DT. Once they are dead, you'll be able to claim Blue Orb Fragment #32. If you've kept up with this guide, completed all the secret missions, found all the other fragments, and purchased all of the blue orbs from the shop, this will unlock the Physical Perfection achievement.
Crush the Green Crystal here if you didn't hit it by collateral and then continue climbing up the ledges to your left. At the top, start jumping across the platforms in a clockwise fashion, using Trickster if you need a little more range. On the third platform, break the White Crystal.
On the last platform, destroy the Blood Clot to open the path ahead. Three Hellbats will attack you, but you've got plenty of room to take care of them. It's a great chance to play with the Double Kalina and the Gunslinger style. When you're ready, retrace your steps back along the platforms. On the last one, you'll find another Red Empusa.
Round 2
Stay on this platform and keep going until you reach a new arena. You'll be attacked by both Shadow and Griffon. Neither seems to have as much health, but they are both more aggressive and your attention will be divided. It's not a bad time to use your DT. Focus on one or the other as best you can. Once one is in a stalemate, your fight will be much easier.
After the battle, continue on to the Bloodstream ahead. When you come out the other side, turn around to get two Red Crystals. Hit the Green Crystal on the way to the Divinity Statue. Ahead, you'll see two columns have collapsed forming an archway. Prepare as needed and proceed.
| Final Fight |
Nightmare will come and go throughout the battle. Try to keep an eye on the energy column floating around the cane. This is where Nightmare will come from and you'll want to see him coming so you can dodge his impact. When he appears, try to use your DT to make the most of the time you have. The time in between should be spent trying to eliminate the other two so they pose less of a threat. Homing ranged attacks are a great choice for dealing with these two very agile enemies. Watch for Shadow's Skewer (he'll become rigid while his head ripples before a spike shoots out), Nightmare's beam attack (it's slow but powerful), and Griffon's Double Check, which will have lightning strobing in arcs around the arena. Each is just another layer to dodge, and once you have them mastered, you'll be able to spend a lot of time attacking. Once you've taken out Nightmare, the battle will end and you'll unlock the Man on a Mission achievement. |

All three of your opponents have the same attacks as you've known them to have, and each has the same weaknesses. Nightmare is the true heart, however. Damage to Shadow and Griffon will not do damage to the "Boss Health." They can be put in stalemate and eventually defeated, but they'll eventually return to fight again.
