Walkthrough / Before You Start

Mission 15: Diverging Point - Nero

The last couple of levels have been a bit of a snooze fest, but things are about to pick-up a little here. You'll have control of Nero for potentially the first time since Mission 08. Stock up on any skills that stand out to you, make sure you have at least one space for a Devil Breaker (more if you like Gerbera) and then roll out.

There is an achievement during this mission, Slick Moves, that is earned by avoiding damage "unnecessary damage" throughout the level. Unfortunately, I can't confirm this, but a reader informed me (no name was given) that this was tied to spikes, and research across the internet seems to agree.

To get this achievement, you'll need to avoid ALL spikes in this mission, including those from the boss at the end. At the start, take the lower path (as recommended in the guide) and be extra careful during the boss fight. If you need to, play the mission on Human as the boss uses spikes very little on that difficulty.

Thank you whoever you are!

Revenge Quest

From the start, go down the ramp ahead. As you proceed, a Grim Platform will be introduced and you'll be presented with two options. Either option is viable, and both have an opportunity for a Gold Orb, but one path is MUCH easier than the other. Run past the platform and drop down onto the path below.

The path ahead will split. Grab the Red Crystal to the left before continuing downward. Grab the Gerbera as the path curves left and then stop. The path ends just ahead and you're going to use Gerbera to traverse the large gaps. If you fall, you'll have to win a fight before you'll be able to get out of the pit, but navigating isn't too difficult. Make sure you line yourself up so your path will be all right angles and you should be fine.

Line up for the Red Orb Cluster ahead before launching off with Gerbera (run forward and then press O/B). Keep using Gerbera to rocket across. If you need to, you can shoot Gerbera in 90 degree angles from where you started (including back), but you'll slowly lose altitude, so don't take too long. Once you get to the first Cluster, use the second cluster (you might miss it) to guide you to the purple landing on the other side.

Once you've landed, if you missed the prior Red Orb Cluster, turn around. Line it up, do one Gerbera launch towards it and then one/two more backward to land where you started.

Head down the ramp and collect the next Gerbera on the way down. This gap will be done in two parts. Rocket ahead towards the Red Crystal. When you get to it, land on the platform here. Line yourself up with the Red Orbs to the right and launch across to the next platform where a Red Crystal awaits. Turn right once again and face the Pyrobat. You're going to rocket forward until you pass the column on the left, then go left before continuing forward to land on the next platform

Continue down the next ramp and grab another Gerbera and a Green Crystal. Turn and face the new gap and rocket across to the Red Crystal in the distance. From here, turn right and launch over to the glowing platform ahead. Land on that before continuing to the platform directly ahead. From here, turn left to see the last ledge blocked by a Pyrobat. Line up with the Pyrobat and rocket straight through it to land on the far side. Grab the Green Crystal when you land.

Turn right and drop off to the Grim Platform here. This will launch you a large tunnel with two Baphomet. After you deal with the two of them (you have the advantage in this narrow space), four Caina and an Antenora will spawn. Bounce the lot of them to the barrier at the end with Streak and then chop them to pieces.

Use the Grim Platform ahead to launch through the hole to a waiting Divinity Statue. Collect the Red and Green Crystals here and make sure you have a Gerbera equipped before walking behind the statue.

Surfing in the UK

Behind the statue, you'll come to a large gap and a Punch Line. You'll get a tutorial on how to surf on your Punch Line, which is a pretty cool party trick. After building up a style combo (which will allow you to surf longer), press O/B to shoot Punch Line, then press and hold the button to have it return, at which point Nero will hop in. You can then control where it goes. It will eventually explode if you ride it for too long, but if you jump, you'll preserve your Punch Line.

With all of that side, ditch the Punch Line and use Gerbera instead. It's not quite as fast or as cool looking, but it's a whole heck of a lot easier to handle.

Launch yourself straight across the gap towards the Red Crystal. You'll likely not reach it, but that's ok. Turn right and keep going. Even if you hit the ground, you can scale the ramp ahead with Gerbera, making sure to hit the Red Crystal on the way.

From here, you could probably turn around to get the Red Crystal you missed earlier, but instead, turn to the right to see another similar ramp. Launch up this one and collect the Red Crystal halfway up. There will be two Punch Lines on either end of this ramp which you can collect if you like, but it's probably not worth covering the Gerbera.

At this point, turn to the right one last time to find the biggest ramp yet, which will be covered with platforms sticking out that can block your progress. Hit the Red Crystal on the way up and then stop at the top to collect yourself.

To your left will be a large wall and at the top will be an orb fragment. Turn around and you'll see a narrow curving ramp very high up. From here, use Gerbera to launch yourself forward twice before launching yourself to the right. When you hit the ramp, start launching backward to scale this ramp. At the top, you'll be able to claim Blue Orb Fragment #27.

Drop off the edge to land back at the foot of that tall wall. Walk forward and you'll see a little ledge jutting out on the right with spikes sticking out. Walk onto this little segment to find a glowing spot. Turn around and look up to find the sigil for Secret Mission 11.

Secret Mission 11: Head straight to the goal

This mission is another one that's simple in concept but difficult in execution. You only have 30 seconds to get to the goal. If you don't make it, you'll have to start over. And it's quite easy to fall and lose a lot of time. While neither are necessary, both Streak and Air Hike will help with this mission.

From the start, head forward. You'll see a wide, low platform directly ahead. Jump onto it and then walk to the left side of it (it's higher than the rest). From here, wall jump to the right and try to land on the lower section of the platform above on the right side.

Once you've landed on the top platform, turn around and face the ledge. Directly across, you'll see a narrow ledge with some spines on it (this should look familiar). Streak towards the edge to launch across at the small ledge. Land on that, turn right and jump to the platform above.

When you land, run ahead and then duck into the reddish tunnel on the left side. When you come out of that tunnel, you'll come to the hardest part of this Secret Mission. You'll have to climb this collapsing platforms again, and if you fall, you lose a lot of time.

Jump onto the stable platform on the left and wait for the platform directly ahead to open. Once it's open jump onto it and turn 90 degres to the right. There are TWO platforms here, and it's pretty easy to instinctively go for the one on the left. Don't -- you can't really reach it. Aim for the platform on the right, land on that, and then hop to the platform next time it. Finally, from this platform, jump to the ribbed wall just beyond it and wall jump up to the goal platform.

From here, run forward and collect your prize.

If you struggle with this, you're not alone. Mess up your timing or your alignment just a little and you'll miss the small section of a platform you can land on. Take the time to do each step correctly before trying to do them quickly. Before long, you'll have this.

Once the mission is complete, you'll have Blue Orb Fragment #28.

The Gauntlet

Once you're done with the mission, turn right and run off the edge to come back to the Divinity Statue. Run ahead and you'll enter a blue tunnel (on this level). When you get to the small room, you'll be attacked by two Baphomet, but as before, this small room gives you the advantage. Kill them and then grab the two Red Crystals behind the lattice walls.

Return towards the Divinity Statue and then drop into the crack in the floor on the right. Grab the Red Crystal when you land and proceed towards the end of this hallway. At the end will be a Scudo Angelo. You can charge up Red Queen and blast through him or try to jump over him and attack from behind. Whichever you choose, once you have him in a good position, crush him.

After he's done, continue outside and around the corner to find a similar situation with two Scudo Angelos this time. The process is identical, but try to push them outside a little so you have more room to work with. Super tight spaces are to their advantage, not yours.

Upon destroying them, go further inside to find a purple room. Grab the Green Crystal before going down the ramp to the left. When you return outside, look to the right to find a thin, cracked wall. Break it open and grab the Red Crystal on the other side. You're going to come up behind two Scudo Angelos, so rev up the Red Queen and start the fight with a hard hit.

Be careful of pushing them through the cracked wall ahead because that room has three more Scudo Angelos in it, though thankfully, they're more interested in standing their ground than attacking you. Try to deal with these enemies a couple at a time, and remember to pull or push them into larger spaces so you can take an advantage away from them.

Go into the tunnels beyond where the last two Angelos were blocking. Crush the Green Crystal to the left and then leap off the edge ahead to land in a large purple room.

When you land, a Behemoth will appear. Start attacking him and try to do some damage. You may want to leave its harness on because more enemies will appear and it'll thrash around a lot more once it's unleashed. four Scudo Angelos will appear in the room, and you're going to want to deal with them first. Jump over them and pull them into the air for some alone time. When they do fall to the ground, try and push them to the far side of the central pillar from the Behemoth.

If you can separate the two in this situation, it may be more worth your while to go for the Behemoth. He moves more than the Scudos and there's only one of him, so you'll be able to homogenize the battle a little by getting rid of him.

Once the battle is done, hop through the hole in the wall and use the Grim Platform beyond. You'll land in front of another Divinity Statue and Green and Red Crystals. Break those before heading downward. At the bottom of the ramp, you can collect a Tomboy before heading into the room beyond.

When you enter the next room, hop onto the platform in the middle of the room and you'll be in a good position to attack the Baphomet as it spawns. Tackle this enemy before dropping down to fight the three Caina below.

When they are defeated, a Grim Platform will activate by the exit to this room. Launch up to the ledge above and grab the Tomboy here if you like. Proceed along this ledge and as you round the corner, two Caina and Two Hellbats will spawn. Try to take out one of the Hellbats first because if you can get it to land in the right spot, this battle will end fast.

Go further along on this ledge and you'll enter a purple room. Slip through the small doorway beyond and climb the wall to the left. At the top, you'll find two Red Crystals and Blue Orb Fragment #29. Turn around and walk to the edge of the cliff to drop off onto the path below.

On this path, break the Green Crystal on the left before heading down to the particularly dead looking around ahead. You'll be attacked by two Antenora, two Caina, and a Judecca. Get a few hits in on the Judecca to cause it to run away before working on the smaller enemies. Bounce back and forth each time the Judecca reappears to keep the Judecca from having much opportunity to attack.

Go through the open doorway and break the Red Crystal. Continue descending to find another Red Crystal and a Green Crystal by a Divinity Statue. Do some shopping if you like and equip yourself for speed (Punch Line is a solid choice for the upcoming battle). Proceed down the ramp when you're ready to rumble.

Boss: Malphas

Malphas is perhaps the easiest boss in the game, pound for pound, excluding the Qliphoth Root in Mission 01. She has some interesting movement and her chicken beast can get aggressive at times, but its attacks can take a while to complete, leaving them open to counterattack.

Phase 1

Tele-peck - A purple portal will appear near the chicken's head and it will stick its head through to attack you. This attack is pretty slow and takes a while to be a threat. As long as you move, you'll likely be missed and have a chance to counterattack.

Hip check - This is the reverse of Tele-peck. A portal will open behind the chicken and it will scoot backward through it. This is another similarly slow move and if you're anywhere near them, it's unlikely to hit you.

Peck - If you're close to the front of the bird, it will lift its head way up before pecking downward. This is a bit faster than the Tele-peck and not as obvious, so be careful or you're going to feel foolish.

Kabob - There doesn't seem to be a tell to this one except that it travels slowly. Clusters of purple spikes will start in front of them and travel outwards towards you, curving if need-be to reach you. Just run perpendicularly until it passes or jump over it.

Phase 2 (<75% Health)

Roast - When it hits 75% health, the chicken will roar (pushing you back) and start to smolder. It will become much more aggressive and its attacks will execute faster, so move fast. After a little while, this effect will fade and it'll return to it's slower attacks above. Staggering it will also result in it leaving Roast

Charge (Roast) - The chicken will turn and face you directly before charging directly at you. If it makes a point to face you, get ready to dodge. As soon as it starts running, start dodging to get away from it.

Stomp (Roast) - After a charge, it will likely jump up and down a couple of times to change direction (usually 90 degrees at a time). This can be pretty damaging, so stay away from it after a charge to avoid this.

Multi-peck (non-Roast) - The chicken will entirely disappear before teleporting its beak around the arena to attack multiple times. It usually concentrates near the center of the arena, so running around the outside is usually the safest bet.

Phase 3 (<25% Health)

Perma-Roast - When it gets low on health, it will no longer need to be in Roast to use Roast attacks, so expect charges at any moment. It will appear as normal.

Coalesce - The pair will go to the center of the arena. The chicken will submerge while Malphas will stick out of the top collecting energy from the arena. Get close and hammer her to interrupt this attack. Doing so will also cause a stun, providing you with even more time to destroy her.

Offense

Any time Malphas isn't in Roast during the first 3/4 of the battle, just get close and hack away. She's fairly easy to stagger. In my first attempt, I staggered her three times without even trying. If she IS in Roast, just back off until the chicken stops glowing. Once that stops, resume your attack.

As you get to the latter parts of the battle where the chicken doesn't need to be in Roast to perform its more aggressive attacks, lay off until she goes to do her Coalesce move. She becomes a sitting duck (har har) when this happens. You'll likely be able to interrupt the attack AND stagger her which may be enough to finish the battle right then and there.
