Walkthrough / Before You Start

Mission 07: United Front

At the start of this mission, you have two options for how to play. You can either play as V or Nero. Neither path has any kind of collectible. You'll get help from other players, so I'd recommend you play this level with whichever character you feel you could use more practice in. V's guide is below. Click here for Nero's guide.

V for Victory

At the start of the mission, run forward and destroy the Blood Clot against the fence to your right. You won't be able to say hi to whoever is on the other side, but I guess you could taunt them (it's what I do). Just behind the clot, break the White Crystal and further down on the right will be a Red Crystal that was blocked by the vine.

Continue forward a little way and you'll be introduced to a new enemy without fighting it. Instead, three Caina will appear to block your progress. Three more Caina will take their places. When they're gone, go up to the train ahead and take a left into the access corridor.

Go down the stairs and take a left to find a White and Red Crystal in a small gated area. Return to the hallway and go past the stairs to find a Red Crystal on the right side. The tunnel will start to morph around you. Be careful as you exit the doorway ahead as there will be a Riot waiting for you.

New Enemy: Riot

  • Very dangerous on the ground, entirely helpless in the air.

Riots focus mostly on lunge attacks, so they'll be on you quickly even if they are quite far away. Because of how they hop when they move, it can be a little bit difficult to get an idea of exactly where they'll be coming from with their attack. The most important thing you can do is dodge everywhere. Don't move in any manner that isn't some kind of dodge or jump (used sparingly) unless you are very far away.

Once you have that in mind, the important thing to do is to go all out. Put everything you have into killing one enemy (or their spawning hive, if there is one nearby) while you spin the camera around to watch for incoming attacks. Whenever possible, ALWAYS get your enemies into the air. Have Shadow fling them up with his tail or use Nero's Wire Snatch to drag them into the air.

Their strength is in their legs and if they can't use them, they're almost offense AND defenseless.

Deal with this single Riot, but don't get comfortable. The narrow space here keeps it from being a serious threat so long as you keep up a barage of attacks. Once it's dead, take a right out of that doorway you came from to find a Red Crystal. Destroy it and return up the catwalk past the doorway. Go down the stairs and break the Red and Green Crystals at the bottom.

Enter the next area of this room and you'll be confronted by three Riots and their Nest. The Nest will keep spawning new enemies until it's destroyed, so it's important to make this a priority.

This fight is much tougher, so get a LOT of distance and dodge everywhere. It would be good to bring Nightmare in to help here. Keep at least one ally back to take out the Nest and let the other two tango with the riots to keep them busy.

Jump up on the small raised platform at the back and break the Red Crystal in the corner before going through the nearby door into another tunnel. Grab the Red orb directly ahead and then turn to the right. There will be a Blood Clot in the rubble and a Mushroom next to it. Destroy the mushroom or it will keep shooting at you, and then take out the Blood Clot.

This will clear a path on the right side of the train ahead. Grab the Red Orb on the way out that's on the left side of the train.

At the Station

When you enter the station platform area, you'll be notified of a Riot Nest nearby. Feel free to explore the left side of the area because once you go near it, you're going to be swimming in enemies. There are several Red Orbs scattered around the left side and a Green Orb tucked in the corner to the right. On the stairs will be a White Orb in case you need a little more DT.

Once you approach the Nest, three Riots will spawn around the room. Make sure you figure out where they all are before you get too carried away with your offense. As before, take out the Nest first. There's a lot of room to work with here, and the island between the escalators is a decent spot to retreat to temporarily if you need to.

After thinning them out a bit, an Antenora will show up just to mess with you. Knock Riots over is helpful. Knocking Antenora over isn't so much. With that said, it's probably best to use strong, impactful attacks to keep the riots off their feet and to just jump/dodge to move your allies when they are threatened by the Antenora.

Explore around the trains on the other side. In the corner of the room, you'll find a Red Crystal next to a Blood Clot. Destroy both and then follow this platform to the far end, destroying the Red Crystal on the way. At the end, you'll find another Red Crystal as well as a couple of Orbs on top of the trains. When you're ready, hop onto the middle platform. At this point, the two paths converge. Click here to continue on with the guide and skip the Nero only section.

My Name is NERO!

You'll start on one side of a divided set of train tracks. Bust the Blood Clot ahead, which will free up some goodies for the player on the other side of the divider. Hopefully, that character will do the same, giving you access to a Green Cyrstal. Grab that and the Red Crystal nearby before continuing down the tracks. You'll see a new enemy, but the one that appears will instead be a Death Scissors.

Try to bait out an obvious attack (the wide-open scissors attack is the most obvious to me). When it starts the attack animation, jump into the air and perform a Split (R1/RB + Back + Triangle/Y) to quickly parry that attack. This will anger the Death Scissors. Shoot it while its mask is still red to kill it instantly. Another Death Scissors will appear. Rinse and repeat. If you have any issues, remember you can just attack the scissors a bunch to break them instead.

Run ahead and into the train car ahead and out the other side. Run up the stairs in the room to the right. At the top, break the Red Crystal in the far corner near the ceiling. Go back down just a little and go through the door into a hallway.

Continue down the hallway and through the Exit door at the end. Turn right and you'll see a Nest and three Empusa. Destroy the Nest to minimize the number of Empusa you'll have to fight before and tearing up the Empusa.

Go past where the Nest was and take a left down the escalator. At the bottom, you'll enter a large lobby with another Nest that is spawning a new enemy called Riots (though you won't get a proper introduction).

Their strength is in their legs and if they can't use them, they're almost offense AND defenseless.

The ceiling in this room is pretty low, so getting high enough to avoid damage is a bit on the tough side. Instead, dodge around a bit and use Streak to bounce enemies away from you. After destroying the Nest, use the remnants of it as a natural barrier against the Riots so you can divide and conquer.

After you defeat these enemies, continue through this room and take left. You'll enter a hallway and as you proceed down the hallway, it'll start to mutate and turn red. Exit the hallway and you'll be in a walkway above a platform.

Take a left and you'll enter a room with Two Electric Mushrooms and a Red Empusa. Take out the two Mushrooms before tackling the Red Empusa. Go through the broken gate and take a left to find a Blood Clot. Break the clot and continue down the nearby escalators.

At the bottom of the escalators, turn left and smash the Red Crystal. Turn around and go past the hallway you just exited. You'll find a bridge going over the tracks below which leads to a Nest and two Antenora. Rush the Nest and destroy it to minimize the number f Antenora you'll have to deal with. This will free up space for the two Caina behind it to join the battle.

There's not much room for the remainder of this fight, so make sure to move backward or forward along the bridge if you need to get some distance before re-engaging. After clearing the bridge, proceed and turn left to find anther Blood Clot. Turn around, run past the bridge and watch for a break in the wall to your right. Drop off and run into the train nearby.

Continue through the train cars and come out the far side to end up on the tracks. Follow the snaking trail between the train cars until it leads you to a station platform beyond where you'll connect with V's path (and hopefully V).

From this point forward the path is identical.

And YOU get a friend!

If the other player beat you here, there will already be a battle happening. If not, you might get this battle started. I will give as much help as I can, but the involvement of another player can really mix things up.

The battle usually starts with several Pyrobats. Divide and conquer with your companion (if they are there). Once they are gone, a few Caina and Tentacles will appear. Hit the tentacles first because they cover most of your combat space, are fragile, and will likely drop green orbs. As you start to pursue the Caina, a couple of Antenora will appear. Pick one and focus on that while your partner tackles the other,

While it can get busy, you have help, and you should absolutely feel free to disengage for your safety. Getting knocked out is far less useful to your companion.

When the battle is over, run up the escalator leading to the central catwalk (not up into the main station) for a Red Orb Cluster. Jump over the right side at the top to land on a Green Orb. Once you're ready, head up the other escalator to start heading out of the tube.

On the escalators, you'll have a mild encounter that will be made surprisingly irritating because ALL of the escalators will be pulling you down. Hop on the islands inbetween and run upwards. Use Griffon and focus on the four Mushrooms first. The escalators will pull the few Caina down to the bottom floor and they can't move fast enough to climb the escalators.

As long as you take out the Mushrooms first, the only thing you have to watch out for is a Death Scissors that appears partway through the fight. Chase the Caina to the bottom and the Scissors should follow you. Then you can take care of it pretty easily down here (especially if there are two of you).

Continue to the top of the escalators (make sure to break any Red Crystals you missed on the way). At the top, you'll get into a fight with three Riots and two Riot Nests. Try to focus on one Nest while Nero focuses on the other. Once those are destroyed, the two of you should make very short work of these Riots. Overwhelm them and use the space on either end if things get too rough.

Hop the carousels into the next lobby area. Make sure to break the Red Crystal right next to the carousel on the left as well as the Green Crystal by the wall and the other Red Crystal by the escalator on the far side. Don't worry about leaving some for Nero -- each player gets their own set. Break the two Red Crystals going up the stairs and take a right at the top of the stairs to find a Red Cluster.

Head back across and take the left path now to get outside. Jump the fence just to the left to find a Red Crystal. Cross the lot and when you get near the Large Red Crystal, use some discretion as you take out the three tentacles so you don't accidentally hit the Crystal too early.

When you're ready, head down the busted street in front of you as it takes you towards what looks like a theater.

Mini-Boss: The Angelos

You're going to have your hands full with this set of five enemies (1 Proto Angelo and 4 Scudo Angelos). They are much more stubborn that shielded enemies in games past, so you're going to have to get aerial to take out these enemies. Good thing you have help!

The enemy has a strategy here, which is to absorb as much of your attacks on their shields as possible while Proto Angelo lays on the hurt. Don't get too distracted by it, though, because the Scudo Angelos can dole out some damage as well.

If that's THEIR strategy, then you're going to wait to fight smart. If at all possible, Nero should go for the Scudos while V focuses on the Proto. It's hard to coordinate Shadow and Griffon's attacks for precise placement at a distance, so a lot of their attacks would hit the shields.

Instead, V should take all that energy and direct it at the Proto Angelo. Unprotected, he'll fall quickly and you'll take away a lot of their fast offensive power.

Nero is going to want to get behind the Scudos (hitting their shield should distract them a bit). If you jump over their head when they attack, you can use Wire Snatch in mid-air to drag them up to you. By doing that, you'll negate their one true strength: their shield. Now they are just a heavy enemy. Beat them down, rinse and repeat.

Don't feel shy about using a Streak to get around and create some space. The powerful offensive move will set them on the defensive, giving you some space and distance at the same time. Punch Line is particularly good here because it will keep them on the defensive while occasionally hitting them in the back during its loops.

For both players, once you're invested in the Scudos. your best option is to get them in the air. Kick them up and put them away.

Upon completing this mission twice, once as Nero and once as V, you'll unlock the Share the Pain achievement.
