Walkthrough / Before You Start

Mission 05: The Devil Sword Sparda

Follow the path ahead of you around the bend until your path is blocked and a battle begins. The first wave will be three Caina which are normally pushovers, but you're a bit boxed in here, so be sure to slip back and forth while enemies are distracted. Also, remember that you can use Gambit to move quickly if needed. Another Caina will appear eventually. You'll likely have more space at this point, but make sure to watch your back.

Continue around the next and bust the Blood Clot here. Follow the path that has opened up and collect the Red Orbs along the way as you make your way into a large warehouse.

Warehouse

After the introduction, hit the Green Crystal to the left before wrapping around the large stack of pallets. Climb them on the far side (collecting Red Orbs) to get on top of the platform. At the top, destroy the Blood Clot and watch out for the giant Leg that drops down. It has limited range so back up and pelt the bulb on it. If you do enough damage to pop the bulb, you'll unlock the Break a Leg achievement.

Drop down where the clot used to be and follow the corridor ahead to some white shipping containers. Climb up on top to begin a battle in a large space. You'll be attacked by three Caina at first, but watch for another Leg to come crashing through the ceiling. Just after the leg, an Antenora will join the fight. When the pack is cleared, a wave of three Pyrobats will appear. You've got tons of room to work with, so camp out at the far end of the Arena, read your book (save the DT), and mop up the enemies from afar.

Drop off the far side of the platform into an area with a dumpster to the left and boarded-up scaffolding directly ahead. Summon Nightmare to knock down the scaffolding. In the new section off to the right will be a set of tall yellow stairs. Take them to the top to find Secret Mission 04.

Secret Mission 04: Defeat all demons without injury

Please see Secret Missions section for video.

This is one seriously tough Secret Mission that is made significantly easier if you have a large DT meter and the Trigger Heart ability. There's no harm/shame in coming back for this later.

Since this battle takes place in a very small space, you're going to want to keep a very close eye on the area around V. When Griffon is free, double jump frequently to get a good view of where enemies are and where they are engaging.

The battle starts with a lone Caina directly in front of you. Rush it as a team because this "safe" area is about to become unsafe. Try to take it out quickly, and as soon as the two Antenora drop in, summon nightmare. Focus your energy on taking them out quickly and let the weaker enemies get taken out as collateral.

After the Caina finally falls, a new wave will come with two Antenora and three Caina. At this point, pick whichever companion you think is stronger and juice them up with some DT while you focus on staying safe, executing enemies, and reading (in that order).

A single double jump should be enough to cover the entire arena and you should absolutely do that if you see a safe corner. You being safe frees up your allies to do more damage. You want this fight over as quickly as possible because once your DT gauge is empty, you're going to have to split your focus between offense and defense to finish this.

Again, this is likely to be one of the toughest Secret Missions, so there's no harm in coming back to this later. Hopefully, you'll trash these enemies and have yourself Blue Orb Fragment #11!

Standing atop these stairs, turn away from the middle of the room to find some shipping crates you can climb. Climb to the top to collect a Red Crystal and Green Crystal but don't drop down on the other side. Return to the base of the stairs and turn left. You'll see a Blood Clot off to the left. Ignore that and look for a small doorway leading under the platform just to the right of the construction vehicle. Enter this little hole to find Blue Orb Fragment #12. as well as a Red Crystal.

Come back outside and head for that Blood Clot. Destroy it and take a few steps forward to trigger a fight behind you with two Empusa. Take them out and then follow the path previously blocked by the vines. Along the way, you'll find one each of Green, Red, and White Crystals.

Just past those, climb the pallets to the left and you'll enter a small alcove with a Green Orb and a Large Red Crystal. DO NOT HIT IT. Get close to the Crystal and another Leg will come down. You can try hammering its weak point, but you may want to just wait it out so as to not accidentally hit the crystal before you're ready. Once it's gone, break that crystal.

Continue along the path and over the nearby orange shipping crates to meet a new Empusa, but be warned that the Queen Empusa is not a pushover like her underlings.

New Enemy: Empusa Queen - 2500 Health

  • Each attack does roughly normal damage, but actual damage varies by 10-20% randomly per attack

The Empusa Queen is a much more aggressive enemy and has far more range to boot. Many of her attacks come with quick movements to add a little bit of range. She has combos and a grabbing attack, so just because you weren't damaged immediately doesn't mean you're safe. Make sure you keep yourself away from the front and if you DO get grabbed, use your DT or detonate a Devil Breaker to wiggle loose.

With that said, she's still not too threatening on her own. Try to stay off to the side and she'll have trouble reaching you. Don't take this for granted, however. She's faster than she looks. If you see her jump into the air, dodge immediately as she's about to slam down on top of you.

The real trouble is when she's accompanied by other enemies. They'll likely keep you distracted while she comes around on you for some devastating damage. Make sure to keep an eye on her whenever she's mixed in with other enemies. Don't try to fight her like this, though, because with so much going on, it's hard to keep the focus to flank her. Take out the smaller enemies first.

If you've got the DT to spare, you can make quick work of the Empusa Queen, but since she's alone, you may want to take the time to go slow and learn how to fight her more directly. This will help you prepare for fighting her in groups of enemies later.

Once she's defeated, enter the corridor that was just opened up. Directly ahead will be a bunch of pallets against the wall acting as a step onto a shipping container. Jump onto the platform and turn around. You'll see another platform jutting out from the wall with a Red Orb Cluster on it. Double jump up to that platform and then double jump to the next platform to collect Purple Orb Fragment #2.

Turn around and return to the room. Hit the Red Crystal on the ground by the ramp as well as the two Red Crystals on the platforms above. Break the Blood Clot nearby to open the path ahead. Find the nearby hole in the floor and drop into it.

Return to the Sewers

After landing, turn away from the dead-end and continue into the main section of the sewer, making sure to get the White Crystal at the bend. In the next room, you'll be attacked by two Caina and an Antenora. Take your time with these enemies, because once they're gone, another Empusa Queen will pop up for you to deal with, along with two Empusa and a Green Empusa. Bust out nightmare to tango with the Queen while your smaller companions clean up the riff-raff. Make sure to use the explosive barrels here.

Leaving the room, cruise through the T-intersection to collect a Green Orb and a Gold Orb, but watch for the sneaking Empusas here. Return to the T-intersection and take a right to continue and destroy the Red Empusa in this corridor. Continue through the T-Intersection for a White Orb before turning off at the intersection and going up the ramp.

This will take you out of the sewers. Check the area for two Red Crystals, a White Crystal and a Green Crystal. Use the phone booth if you've got some shopping you'd like to do. When you're ready, proceed through the archway to fight a fell beast.

Boss: Elder Geryon Knight

Unsurprisingly, this mounted enemy is quite a fan of charging attacks, but you'll also have to watch out because it also has a few time manipulation tricks up its pauldrons.

Phase 1

Charged - Likely its starting move. It will rear up and its sword will flash with energy before charging directly at you. A simple side dodge will keep you safe.

Swing - If it's very close, it will trot a few steps (if needed) before swatting at the ground with its sword on its right side.

Bolts - The knight will stop and raise its left hand. Electricity will collect in its hand before taking aim with that hand and releasing several bolts at you. This attack can be repeated.

Phase 2 (<75% health)

Time Flare - The horse will rear up and its mane will grow before releasing a shockwave attack that engulfs most of the arena in a slow-motion bubble. You can back up to try to avoid it, but you'll need to get about half the arena away for this to work.

Try to put a barrier or ally between you. If you want to move quickly, use dodges and double jumps. These don't seem to be affected by the time bubble.

Teleport - Rather than a traditional charge, the horse will light up with the same time magic energy as it releases during Time Flare. It will then leap through time to attack. As with Time Flare, finding an obstacle to put between you and your enemy is the best way to stay safe.

Time Bolt - The horse will shoot an orb of time energy at you (not unlike Urizen during the Prologue). Wherever it hits will be enveloped in an orb of slowed time. Immediately after, they will Teleport over and use several quick Swings. The space it effects is relatively small and the orb moves slowly so run perpendicularly to avoid its effects.

If you want to move quickly, use dodges and double jumps. These don't seem to be affected by the time bubble.

Phase 3 (<50% health)

Grounded - The knight will rear up and be struck by a few bolts of lighting. After that, it'll flip its sword downward and plunge it into the ground causing the area around it to be covered in electricity. Jump backward to avoid.

Phase 4 (<25% health)

No new moves are added at this point, but the Knight will become particularly aggressive with time manipulation. It won't be uncommon for it to use all three Phase 2 moves in sequence before the effects of the first have even had a chance to dissipate. The best thing to do is watch for tells, anticipate, and keep your distance as much as possible.

Offense

Going on the offensive isn't really that difficult. Most of your defense just revolves around keeping your distance and dodging occasionally, so send your two (sometimes three) friends out to attack. Watch their health meters and perform a double jump or side dodge to call them back to you if they get low. They recover health very quickly if they don't get put into a stalemate, so they'll likely be back in fighting shape before they even get back into the fight.

Any of Shadow's attacks are good, but both Breakthrough and Skewer are good options due to how much time Shadow will spend trying to get close to the enemy. For Griffon, Blockade is a great option. You should be safe enough for most of the fight to build up your DT gauge pretty regularly, so don't be shy about setting them on auto-attack.

This may take a little longer than most fights because of the enemy's speed, but you'll slowly chip away until there's nothing left.
