Exploration

Before you get too invested in the series of missions at Iron Mike's, I recommend you stock up and head south. South of the camp nestled in the mountains are three things you're going to want to knock off pretty quick for your convenience. The first spot to hit is the Berley Lake Ambush Camp. This will reveal all Nests in the Rogue Camp Infestation and the Berley Lake Infestation. Hold off on Rogue Camp but hit the Berley Lake Infestation. The reason is very important. Just south of that is the Santiam Tunnel NERO Checkpoint.

That NERO Checkpoint is very usual for fueling up in the area since it's relatively close to Iron Mike's. You'll want to get it operational as quickly as possible, but you'll also want to make sure the nearby infestation is gone because there's literally a Nest IN the checkpoint.

I Need Your Help

It's time to play "Find the O'Brian!" This one's quite the doozy. Don't be surprised if it doesn't go well the first time you attempt it. At least the price for failure is fairly low and sometimes occasionally helpful.

Ride out to the waypoint NW of Iron Mike's to meet up with O'Brian. After you have a chat where he gives you some equipment, he'll send you to another waypoint. Head out for the waypoint, but partway through, you'll be instructed to chase down a helicopter. Follow it until it sets down and then you'll have to sneak into a camp to eavesdrop again.

When you get to the LZ, hop off the bike and head down the hill towards the water. Stay away from the chopper and try to mark as many enemies as possible. Slowly make your way along the shore towards the chopper and hide behind the huge rock just west of it.

Find the Guard that patrols north and south along the west side of the chopper. When you find him, toss a rock north of him to lure him away from the chopper and then move along the shore to the chopper to plant the GPS. Once it's planted, return to the giant rock and get to the north side of it.

From here, you should be able to sneak along just off the south side of the back porch towards the NERO Tech's location. There's a Guard that patrols up and down the stairs as well as another Guard that patrols the patio area (there's also Guard that patrols the west side of the patio, so be careful).

Toss the rocks to make them look away from your path and then wrap around the porch towards the large rock. Skirt around in the bushes until you can hear the Tech tearing into a living Freaker. When their conversation is done, you'll get the Research Field Note - 2071 collectible.

When you're done listening, retrace your steps to get back out of the area all the way back up to your bike.

Searching For Lisa

When you're stocked up, it's time to go find Lisa. Ride out for the waypoint, but be careful as it's set in a large Infection Zone. Park outside the town by the brush barricade set up on the eastern side.

Follow the road heading west into the center of town. You'll see a Nest on your left (the south side). Wrap around it, but be careful as there are likely to be Swarmers about even during the day. As you keep traveling west, you'll see a light yellow circle on your mini-map. You'll pass a blue car that's crashed into a telephone pole. Just beyond that will be a light colored housed with red wood trimming.

On the north side of the building, you'll find a garage that's blocked by an SUV. Push the SUV out of the way to make space so you can slide under the door. Check the table on the right side for a Baseball Bat and a Beer Bottle. Go into the house and grab the Rag on the counter to the right. Walk into the living room and take a look at the Bookcase to find a small gap on the left.

Slide through and check the bedroom on the left. You'll find a Note in the back corner on another half-size bookcase. Grab it to complete the mission. Feel free to torch the Infestation Zone if you like while you're here, but keep track of the time of day. This is a rough area to be at night.

Now You See It

Get out of town however you like. In my case, some Drifters were nice enough to come into town and serve as a distraction!

When you're ready, head to Iron Mike's and visit Boozer. After you check on him, Skizzo will insist you come with him to talk about something that you might find interesting. Follow him back to the main lodge. He'll tell you his plan and then wander off. And that's that.

Playing All Night

You'll have to kill some time before Skizzo will give you a call. If you need gas, there's a gas station NW of Sherman's (which you visited earlier), but be careful as there could be Drifters hanging out there. Feel free to run some short tasks if you like, but the wait isn't too long.

After Skizzo gives you a call, ride for the new waypoint. When you get there, you'll find a checkpoint that's been abandoned. At this point, unfortunately, things get a little unusual compared to most missions.

You'll be set in front of a bridge and you NEED to cross it or you'll fail. Ride to the camp and go around the first two barriers. Go under the archway and into the water. Ride up just past the water but stop as soon as you hit dry land. Just beyond is a long corridor with four Rippers and a Super Ripper.

New Enemy: Super Ripper

Super Rippers are essentially your first armored enemies despite how they appear. They'll take hit after hit from the front. You'll need to line up a few solid headshots to take them down quickly. Alternatively, you can just plan for dumping ammo into them and go for chest shots since they're likely to do massive damage if you get lost in your aiming.

As soon as their gun spins up, duck out of the way as quickly as possible. Even just a single stray bullet can knock off almost half your health, and those bullets will be coming fast.

The sentries here walk in perpendicular patterns, so wait to make sure there are none coming towards you from the back and kill the first sentry walking side to side. Move up through the camp and try to kill the second one as well. Get up as far as the large wooden walls on the left side and wait. A third Ripper will walk towards this side and you should be able to kill her pretty safely. Finally, the last regular Ripper may also come by here, but not quite as close. Kill him if you can and slink into the shadows.

I wouldn't recommend a stealth kill for the Super Ripper because he's tough as nails and so if you fail, you won't be able to kill him quickly to save yourself from death. Instead, just start a firefight with the guy. It seems that the backpack may be weak, so try to aim for that. Several hits to the red backpack should make short work of him, but be careful. His machine gun will do massive damage even with just stray bullets.

Push the SUV out of the way at the end and then bring your bike up. Turn right and try to stick to the wall as best you can. Down by the path will be a couple more Super Rippers and across the street in a tower will be two Snipers. You don't want to bother with either of them. Remember on your return trip to retrace your path so as to avoid them again.

You'll eventually come to a burned out house. Stay to the north side and follow the debris to the plane wreckage. Hop off your bike and climb through the rocks to find the plane itself.

New Enemy: Breaker

This guy is an absolute beast. He has the durability of the bear earlier, but he also has the speed of a wolf and the hitting power of... well, he's probably the strongest enemy you've faced. Early in the game, one hit will put your near critical from full health. If you don't heal all the way the second will send you into the red, and if he so much as knicks you, you're toast. Sometimes you don't even make it to the third hit before you're treated to a violent and theatrical demise.

By far your best friend when dealing with these guys are bear traps. It gives you a chance to do massive damage and still run away. After that, anything that will disorient him will help. Explosions can do good damage, but it will still take quite a few to take him down and he's unlikely to be stunned by them.

Taking one of these down is a battle of preparation, environmental awareness, and perseverance. Don't be disappointed if you take a few lumps from him despite having a thorough handle on the rest of the game.

Before we get started, it's worth noting that killing the tougher Freakers with your Boot Knife is good for a trophy called This is a Knife. While this might not seem like the best time because you're trying to learn to deal with a tough enemy, this is also potentially the best time since you've got a health bar while dealing with this guy. Make use of the bear traps and whittle him down to the last sliver of health. Even when he's only a single hit away with any other weapon, you've still got several stabs ahead, so roll, stab, roll to get the job done.

Bull Fight

The first thing to do is mark him real quick and take note of the Red Case against the rock just to your right. There are several of these in the area, and you'll want to use them to kill him. It's best to have him charge past one as you shoot rather than trying to get him stuck in a corner first.

You have more important things to find, however. Take a left and head for the back end of the plane. On the way, you'll pass a Rag, a Beer Bottle, and Ammo. Cut through the hole at the back of the plane and you'll come to a small clearing with a large rock. Run around the left to find another Red Case. Just beyond, there's more Ammo (though leave it if you don't need it right now). Slip between the rocks to come out facing the plane again and you'll find a Bear Trap to your right.

This is your Holy Hand Grenade here. Grab that and find your friend. Get his attention and place the Bear Trap right between you. He'll run into it, take damage, and then you can deal some serious damage. Even just with a Spiked Bat, you can get him to about 60% health before you need to run.

At this point, take him around to hit the Red Cases. You've already found two, and you'll find another Red Case on the west side of the plane right about the middle of the fuselage (main long section of the plane). Hit him with those three, and then you'll find another Bear Trap directly north of the NE major crack in the fuselage. Use that and tear through him with whatever you have left.

There are more supples NE and north of the plane as well as an Ammo crate in the very middle of the plane in case you run low on ammo. It may take a few tries, but you'll eventually get it, and it's hard not to feel good taking down something so tough.

Once you've taken it down, check inside the very middle of the plan to find the Medical Supplies that you need. Return to your bike and hug the rocks until you get back out of the camp. Ride all the way back to the checkpoint, and then return back to Iron Mike's to finish the mission.
