Walkthrough

It's a Long Story

It's On a Mission

O'Brian will send you to the south of Lost Lakes. When you get to the checkpoint, you'll have to perform another sneaking mission, though this one seemed a lot simpler than before.

Follow the path up the hill and take a right. Follow this until you see a gradual hill leading up to the left. Go up the hill and stick to the left side to get into a bush. There will be a Guard patrolling the path. Wait for him to pass and continue along the side of the path up to the mouth of the cave.

When you get close, there are three bushes near the front. You'll be able to see a Guard sitting right in the mouth of the cave. Toss a rock to the left to distract him and sneak into the cave. Inside the cave, you'll come to a donut-shaped path will a huge rock in the middle. Around the rock are bushes. Get in them and you'll be able to move safely while listening to the conversation. Beware the Guard next to the tech.

After the conversation, you'll need to leave, but the Guard from the donut path will be by the mouth of the cave. You'll need to distract both of them by tossing things that lure each of them away. Toss one deeper into the cave and then toss one far outside the mouth of the cave. That should give you plenty of time to get out of the cave and return to your bike.

A Goddamn War Zone

After stopping to talk to Rikki to get this mission, head to the waypoint. Approach it from the east to get an idea of what's going on. Be careful because there are Drifters and Newts in the next area. There's no big challenge, but because the two interact, it's possible that you may find things drastically different from what I find.

WARNING: This mission seemed a bit buggy. There were several instances of Drifters appearing but not moving, reacting, or even being markable. In one instance, I was standing right next to an enemy that was completely inanimate but something triggered her and she attacked me from the side. Be careful.

When you get there, circle around the right (east) side of the camp. There will be two Newts on top of a structure and a Drifter trying to kill them. Try to stay out of sight and take out the Drifter (if he kills the Newts, all the more Bounties for you). When he's dead, check under the metal roof to find a table with a Clue. Check the nearby shed for a Bottle before following the bread crumbs to the next location.

This will bring you to a couple of small buildings with a fire in the middle. Find and kill the lone Drifter in the area before checking the benches near the fire for another Clue.

Follow the next set of bread crumbs to find a similar area minus the fire. A Drifter will be shooting up at a few Newts. Go around the north side of the buildings to stay out of sight. Go down the hill to the SE and loop around to come back up behind the Drifter for an easy kill. Be careful as there may be a Drifter closer to the road.

Check one of the nearby buildings and you'll find bunk beds with a crate at the foot of them. This box contains your next Clue. Follow this to the next destination, which is a bathroom. A Drifter will be wandering around. Kill him and check the supply closet between the two bathrooms. Go into the bathroom on the right and kill any Newts before inspecting a body at the back corner for a Clue.

Once again, follow the path, but travel south around the buildings. You'll come across a school bus before coming to a large lodge-style building. Circle around the lodge to the east side. You'll find a small woodshed attached to this side of the building which you can climb up to get in the building from the back.

Kill the Drifter up here (even if she doesn't move like in my case) and then take out the two Drifters downstairs. Grab the Meet the Campfire Cadets collectible from the table under the main stairs. Check the behind the checkout counter to find the Camp Pioneer Keys.

In my case, enemies started swarming into the building, though I think it's just because they saw me. However, if they aren't being drawn and you'd like to thin the heard, this building is a solid place to do it. Grab their attention and smash them as soon as they come in the door.

Once you're done here, hop out of the building and head for the first cabin to the east. I recommend going up the hill to the right of the cabin. Make sure to watch for a Drifter patrolling outside.

In the cabin, you'll find two Drifters and Red Riley. It's tight quarters in there, so I recommend a melee weapon or shotgun to get things done quickly. When he's dead, loot his body for Proof and take it back to Rikki at the Lost Lakes camp.

Interestingly, it seems like the Drifters in the camp disappear after you have the proof, though I don't know if this was also a glitch.

Flow Like Buried Rivers

After turning in the bounty, you should be able to meet with Iron Mike about helping out a bit more with the camp. Take a walk with him through the marsh and kill the three Swarmers in the mud. Each should only be a single hit with a quality weapon.

After you pass through there, you'll see what your real purpose is. Follow the waypoints as they lead you up the hills alongside the Horde. Be careful whenever you get anywhere near the Horde to duck into bushes. If they see you, it's an instant fail.

After taking the path up the mountain, you'll talk to Mike and hatch a plan to stop the flow of Freakers to the area. Follow Mike all the way back to the camp.

You See What They Did

Make sure to stock up on supplies for combat before this mission as well as a Sniper Rifle if you can (the Lost Lakes merchant has a nice one available at Trust Level 1).

After getting back to camp, meet up with Iron Mike once more to take a trip to Sherman's Camp. Hopefully, you've cleared the infestation by this point or you may be in for a bit of a headache.

Ride with Mike to the camp and carefully make your way to the designated building to find out what happened. After Mike explains, search the marked body to find the key you're looking for. With it in hand, leave the building and go with Mike to the Municipal building.

Do You Have My Back?

After finding what you're looking for, things will go sideways. Three Drifters will enter the lobby of the building. If you're fast, you'll be able to make your way down and take cover before they notice you. Use Distraction items (rocks, smoke bombs, etc) to open up opportunities to kill your enemies without trouble. A Smoke bomb works wonders in the enclosed space.

Before heading outside, grab supplies from in here. Head outside and follow Mike as the two of you slowly make your way back to your bikes. You'll come to a road leading downward with several Drifters. Make your way up to them slowly. Mike will serve as a decent enough distraction if you let him take point.

As you go, make sure to search bodies for supplies that will be useful as you make your way through town. Also, keep in mind that there are Swarmers in the town. Check your surroundings occasionally to make sure you don't get ambushed.

Continue down and take a right to get in a firefight with several more Drifters. Keep following Mike around the loop until you come to a long road leading to your bikes.

Take cover behind the green truck and kill the three Melee Drifters that rush you. When they are dead, take out your sniper rifle and take out the Sniper standing atop the gas station. Slowly make your way up from cover to cover and take out enemies as you go. As long as you go slow, you should be able to reach your bike without too much hassle.

Hop on your bike and follow Mike back to Lost Lake to finish the mission.

Seeds for Spring

Before heading out, like with any "Alive" bounty, make sure you stock up on pistol ammo.

Drive out to the location and you'll find yourself on a small dock/jetty platform. Go up onto the platform and stick to the right side to find a little outdoor shed. On the floor will be a Red Bag. Check it to trigger the Bounty.

Chase down Lynchman just the same as any other. Remember to boost with your Nitro. His two Drifter goons are pretty easy to get rid of, and I recommend getting rid of them first as they pack a fair amount of power. They won't stay gone permanently, however, so try to take down Lynchman as quickly as possible.

On Herod's Birthday

This mission starts in the Rogue Camp, and I recommend doing it IMMEDIATELY AFTER the Rogue Camp Infestation is completed. The infestation doesn't play a role in the mission, but the mission is very conveniently placed so that you can torch the last Nests and then run into the mission waypoint, saving yourself the time of dealing with any Swarmers.

This is another sneaking mission, and it's quite a pesky one as well because the Guards are pretty focused and the Researcher will eventually walk right across the front of the gas station. To follow, you'll have to exit and follow after them in the open.

Move around to the left side of the gas station and circle past the perimeter so you go around the outside of the trailer. Use rocks to distract the two Guards that patrol the south side of the gas station if they are looking in your general direction. When you get behind the building, enter through the back door into the main part of the store. Walk up to the front window and hide underneath it.

After listening to the Research and Guard for about half of the bar, they'll leave and walk right past you. You need to stay under the window so they won't see you. After they walk by, hop out of the window and start following them. As you approach the edge of the building, ready a rock in case you need to throw it over the Guard's head to make him look away from you. Between the truck and the short wall will be a large bush you can sit in until they're done talking.

When they finish talking, you'll get the Research Field Note - 2060 collectible. Toss a rock to the west to draw the attention of the guard in that direction and circle back past the truck and trailer. You should be able to get a comfortable distance away and then return to your bike to finish the mission.

I Got a Job for You

After stocking up on ammo and making sure you have a sturdy sniper rifle and melee weapon, head to the front of the main lodge at Iron Mike's. When you get there, you'll meet up with Skizzo before being saved by Rikki. Follow her down to check the generator for the camp and then head to the bikes to ride out. It's going to be a long ride, but enjoy the ride!

It Couldn't Be That Easy

After arriving, Rikki will start inspecting the area to figure out what's wrong the dam. Follow her as she goes around. Once she jumps into the water, follow the waypoint down to the turbine to check and see if it's working. After that, return back to where she jumped off.

Once again, follow her around the place to figure out what else is wrong with the dam. Eventually, you'll find the cause and you'll segue into the next mission.

They Don't Like Visitors

Venture into the dam. It's a little bit foreboding at first, but it's quite peaceful in here. If you need supplies, turn left to grab a Rag by the door in the next room. Turn left and check under the stairs leading up to the catwalk to find Sterilizer, Scrap, and Bandages. Check the room next to those stairs to find Kerosene.

In the room on the other side, you can find an Ammo box just to the right as you enter. At this point, Rikki will torch the Nest and you'll have to cut through about five Swarmers, all of which should be coming down the stairs (easy choke point if you need one). At this range, I recommend melee or a Shotgun.

Before leaving, check under the catwalk to find a Beer Bottle and under the stairs to find a Magnet.

Head to the next room. When you get there, Rikki will torch the next Nest. Take out the next group of five Swarmers. When they drop, you'll automatically go and start the power. Follow Rikki back out of the innards of the dam.

That wasn't so bad, was it?

That's When I Knew

This is what you brought all that ammo for. It's time to RIP some Rippers, but there's a lot of them. Take your time and watch your back. The enemies here are surprisingly mobile, so it's hard to pinpoint where exactly they'll be after the start. Remember to loot as you go so you stay stocked up until the very end.

From this initial position, kill the Ripper directly in front of you, but immediately check to your right as there's a Ripper with a shotgun in that general direction that might flank you. After they are down, it's time to go straight up the middle.

Snipethe Ripper on top of the building ahead of you and similarly any other enemies. There's likely two Rippers still left on this side of that building. Try to snipe them and start moving up on the left side.

You should be able to see all the way to the front gate, so snipe whatever enemies you can see before moving up to the main building in the middle. When you get there, check around the right side to see if any Rippers are trying to flank you.

Kill any Rippers here and climb up on the right. Take cover behind the upper barriers here and use your height advantage to take down the Super Ripper at the far end of the area. He doesn't move much, so feel free to use explosives on him to take him out pretty safely.

With him down, there should be minimal resistance. Take out the last few enemies by your bikes and you'll be home free. If you're running low on ammo for this last bit, hop down and circle back around the brick building in the middle. There's a lot more advantageous cover if you come at the entrance from the side rather than head-on.
