How can you see a character's moveset?

I havent completed the story because i've heard of spoilers for part 6 and 7 which i'm still reading. I've completed the first two and i'm geniunely confused on what some attacks do. I just want to know if the Story mode teaches you more or if there is any tutorial/practice mode to test attacks/characters on.
