    Controls

When you first start the game, you have the option to change the controller layout. If you don't change them, you can change them through the "Options" menu. The Default control set-up is the "New" option under Controller Configuration. Menu and Photo Mode controls remain the same across all configurations. If you choose to change the Steering controls, the only change that is really made is whether the D-Pad, Analong Stick, or Motion control the rider. Unless the D-Pad is used for steering, it will control Taunts and Stunts, otherwise the Analog Stick will control Taunts and Stunts. For the Game Controls Section, I will be using "Stick" as the Steering Controls. If you are using D-Pad Steering, switch the Left Analog Stick and D-Pad actions

    Vehicles

Compared to past MotorStrom games, there are nearly twice as many Vehicle Classes as there have been. However, you are limited to one Vehicle class for each race, similar to a majority of events in the original MotorStorm game. Each stat for the vehicle classes is ranked out of 5.

    Dirt Bike

Light and agile, but not very robust. Dirt Bikes take the bumps and jumps with ease, can be thrown around corners and scramble up the steepest of hills-but they can also be an easy target for the opposition.

    ATV

Fast over rough terrain and rock steady in a tussle. The lightweight ATVs are great both off-road and on. They hit the balance between stability and agility, and their ability to hold their own in a tussle exceeds that of bikes. ATVs are the choice of the more aggressive lighter driver.

    Super Bike

The crotch rocket for experienced riders is light as a feather. With jet-like acceleration that will tear your face off and turn your stomach inside out. These aren't for the faint-hearted and need seasoned pilots to steer them. One crash and you'll need skin grafts for the rest of your life-if you survive at all.

    Chopper

The ultimate cruising machine is quick in a straight line, but sloppy in corners. The daddy of all the bikes, the Chopper is all muscle, no-tussle. With a fat-ass rear wheel, they are the ultimate cruising machine with a thunderous growl to boot-pure rolling art of wheels.

    Muscle Car

Drag race beasts that can be a handful around corners. The standard-bearer for American automotive engineering, the Muscle Car's meaty engine gives it great speed with handling that wants to throw you out on every corner. Every racer thinks they can tame this beast, but only a select few have.

    Festival

Festival is the Story Mode. There are 3 different characters to play as. Each character is a different difficulty level and has a different story. As you finish each character's chapter, the next character's story becomes unlocked. When you first start the festival, you will have to work your way up from the Rookie class, to Pro class, and finally to the ranks of Veteran. In most of the Festival races (except each character's Prologue and Epilogue), there are collectible cards, usually 3 to 5. These cards are only obtainable in the Festival. Other than collecting them for Trophies, the cards have little value. For the most part, I've tried putting the cards in the order that they appear as you go around the track. Occasionally, 2 might get flip-flopped and I put the earlier-found one second, but it won't happen too often.

This event is mainly to help you get acquainted with the game. You will be following a Buggy that will lead the way and will drop flares to help you find your way. During this event, you will learn about looking at Key Events, Boosting, and Ramming. When a Key event is about to take place, a Triangle button icon will appear on the bottom of the screen. Pressing Triangle will cause you to zoom in on something big that is about to crumble. Key events can either block a path, open a new path, or fall in the background with no bearing on the race. When Boosting, hold the X button to use it. Once the Boost bar fills up and you reach Critical Boost, you will have to lay off a bit or risk overheating and exploding. You won't be able to use boost until you are prompted. Ramming involves your vehicle quickly jerking to the side to hit another vehicle. Vehicle's strength (Which will be explained later) determines the effectiveness of a Ram. Ramming does use Boost, so be careful using it when you are close to Critical Boost. The event will end when you reach the area with green lasers.

This race is relatively easy. When you start, everyone will be fighting for position and it is possible to jump quite a few positions by the time you reach the top of the hill and the race begins. When you get halfway down the hill, you can either go straight downhill, or go to the right. Going straight has fewer turns and allows you to stay at a higher speed, but the right is a little shorter with more turns. When going downhill, there are ramps that line both sides. This can be a useful way to jump over the other drivers for position or lay off the Boost and allow it too cool. Be careful on the take-offs and landings so you don't wreck. When the paths meet, there are plenty of puddles to cool off your Boost meter. Anytime you see a fire hydrant, you can knock it out by driving over it and opening another stream of water.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4
At the top of the hill, there is a paved path on the right. The card is on this path as you go around the bend. When choosing to take the path on the right going downhill, the card is just beyond the intersection. When going all the way downhill, there is a gas station along the right side of the turn. The card is between the building and the pump. When the paths rejoin, you will see a paved path along a rocky wall. Follow this path all the way around to find the card.

Finish 1st: Unlocked Hardcore Race in Special Events

This race is relatively short and simple, mainly because there is really only one path that can be taken, as opposed to most races where there are a few routes available. On your way back, parts of the bridge will begin to fall. As long as you stay to the right, you'll be fine. When going through the rounded part leading up to the line, try to stay low. The farther up you go, the more likely you are to clip part of the frame and flip and wreck. When going through the rounded part leading up to the line, try to stay low. The farther up you go, the more likely you are to clip part of the frame and flip and wreck. For most of the rest of the race, parts of the bridge will collapse along the way. When you go through the tunnel on Lap 2, you will see green lasers coming up from the ground. At that point, most of the tunnel will collapse beneath you and you will be on a lower section of the bridge.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4
When you reach the end of the bridge going forward, there is a ramp on the right. The card is at the top of the ramp. After going over a part of the bridge with a ramp at the top, go to the right side. The card will be just off the right side of the next ledge. As you head forward down the bridge, stay to the left. Near the end, the card will be hanging just off one of the ledges, much the same as Card 2.This card cannot be obtained until after the tunnel collapse. When the tunnel collapses, there is still part of the original track along the right side. Ride this all the way to the end to reach the card.

For the first half of the race, there is one path to follow. Once you enter the underground rail system, more paths start becoming available. There will be railcars sitting on some of the side tracks so be careful in avoiding them. Most of them will have their headlights on. When you come out through the station, there are multiple paths that will all lead you back to the line. On the second lap, things will start crumbling. Some of the buildings before entering the long tunnel will fall; this is a Key Event if you are still trying to rack up 5 for the Trophy. Part of the tunnel wall will be knocked out as soon as you enter it, as well. The only other thing to fall during the rest of the race will be the bridge hanging over the finish line as you approach it.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4Card 5
When travelling through the underground rail system, there will be an area with a lot of pillars. The card will be next to one on the left side. When you reach the area just beyond Card 1 with many different paths, hang to the far right. The card will be on the tracks. When you come to the station, stay to the right side. You will see the card as you enter.Once you leave the station, try and make your way over to the left side of the train yard. You should see a small fenced area underneath a raised track as you drive by. The card will be next to the fenced area. You may have to wait until the next lap and approach by going through the left side of the station. This card cannot be obtained until the tunnel wall collapses. Take the path that is opened up. When you reach the jump at the end, the card will be floating in the middle of the jump.

This place is a good place to get a few easy Trophies. 'Air Assault', 'Hot Air', and 'Target Locked' are all obtainable here. In this race, you will only have to worry about the opponents because nothing will happen to the track during the race. Near the end of each lap, there are some pre-collapsed buildings that you will race up. If you want to go for 'Hot Air' make sure you are at Critical Boost when you launch off the building. When in mid-air, let off the gas and hit the brake. By the time you land, you will have completely cooled off your Boost. For 'Air Assault', get near someone on a Bike when going off that jump and punch them off thier ride before you land. 'Target Locked' is more luck based than the other two, but if you knock everyone off thier ride, you'll probably end up getting it.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4
When going through the tunnel at the beginning, ride along the sidewalk on the right side. The card is near the end, near a burning bus. When making a sharp left turn when you leave the city, there will be 3 paths to choose from. The card is next to a tree on the brick path on the right. When you reach the pre-crumbled buildings, go all the way to the left side. The card will be in mid-air.After landing the building jump, there will be a path that continues ahead and one to the right. The card is next to the building on the right, almost as soon as you complete the turn.

You may get thrashed around a bit in this race by some of the bigger vehicles but you'll probably end up taking different paths than some of them, at least when you can. Since you are racing at a shipping yard, there are some crates lying around just waiting to be run into, so try to avoid them.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4Card 5
At the start, follow the flares. Eventually, you will see a crate sitting in the middle of the track. Go to the right of the crate and jump off the ledge. The card will be in mid-air.When you reach the warehouse, go in and stay to the right. Eventually, you will drop off of a ledge. You will be able to see the card ahead of you.Around the next turn will be a ship. Go inside and take the path on the left, when you reach the jump, the card will be hanging off the right side of it.As you come to a sharp left turn, there will be a small ramp next to a building. Go up it and stay on the "raised" path until you see the card. After getting Card 4, stay to the left. You will see a piece of cement tubing. Go through the tube to reach the card.

    Eliminator

Finish 5th or higher: Qualified for the Next Race/New Motion Comic(s)

Finish 1st: Unlocked Hardcore Race in Special Events

This is the first Eliminator event you will compete in and they are similar to the format from the first two games. When the race begins, a 15-second timer will count down to the first elimination clock starting. Once that timer hits 0, a 10-second timer will begin counting down and last place will be eliminated each time it hits 0 until only one racer remains. If the last two racers are close enough to each other when the 10-second clock hits 0, they will go into sudden death. A vertical bar will appear on the right side of the screen. To survive sudden death, one driver must distance their self from the other driver. This course is a more destroyed variation of the first course that will have you going in the opposite direction. You will probably get in about 2 1/2 laps.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4
As soon as the race begins, get all the way over to the right. This card is on top of a dirt mound beneath a tree.Take the dirt turn at the beginning of the race. After completing the turn, look on the right for a building with a giant "Zodiac" sign. This card will be in front of the building. When you reach a 4-way intersecion, make a left turn, or continue straight depending on the direction you are coming from (Straight if you took the first right after Card 2, left if you took the other path). Once you round the hairpin turn, the card will on the left. This card in next to a tree on the right side at the top of the hill. You will be able to see from the top of the hill.

Want A Magic Nut Bar? (Silver): Complete 'Baked' as Mash

    Race-4 Laps

Finish 5th or higher: Qualified for Next Race/New Motion Comic(s)

Finish 1st: Unlocked Hardcore Race in Special Events

In my opinion, this race is probably one of the more difficult ones in Mash's story, mainly due to it being a night race (Then again, I've never been a fan of night races). There are a couple different paths to choose from, and for the most part, the bigger vehicles will stik to one path and the smaller vehicles will stick to the other. There are a few big cracks in the road and obstacles will seem to pop-up out of nowhere, making it even more "fun". Around the third or fourth lap, a helicopter will crash into one of the buildings on one of the paths (The one that smaller vehicles tend to take), prompting a Key Event if you are still looking for one.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4Card 5
At the beginning, go left. After going around the next turn, jump off the ramp in the middle of the street to get the card. When driving through all the buildings to the left of Card 1, you will come across one with escalators. Go around the one on the left and jump off the ledge to get the card. When driving on the street, after passing two ramps, there will be a hole in a building with flaming rubble inside. The card will be next to the rubble and may be somewhat hidden by the flames. When the two paths rejoin, there will be a building the has flashing lights on it. Go around this building to the right and the card will sitting on the right sidewalk. On your way back to the line, stay along the road that still hasn't collapsed along the right. As you get closer, you will see the card hovering over the left edge.

    Collectable Cards: 5

    Race-3 Laps

Finish 5th or higher: Qualified for the Next Race/New Motion Comic(s)

Finish 1st: Unlocked Hardcore Race in Special Events

When the race begins, some racers will cut through the building. I would not recommend following them. Instead, follow everyone else around the building. When you jump off, the next few buildings ahead of you will all collapse, creating the path. Other than a few minor things falling, that is the only major damage done. It will be raining for the duration of the race, so even when you aren't boosting, it will be cooled down quicker. This course is full of jumps and for the majority, if you aren't going fast enough, you will probably end up being respawned after falling.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4Card 5
On the third collapsed building, stay along where the building bends. When you reach the end of the building, the card will be off the right side. When you are jumping on the next set of rooftops, go off the ramp on the right. When you land, you should see the card on your left. After getting Card 2, jump off to the left and take this path around. When you get the chance to watch the crane fall (Key Event), go towards the right side of the rooftop (There will be split arrows pointing left and right). Keep past and start boosting. You will want to be in about the middle of the rooftop when you jump. The card is in mid-air in the next building. You will need to boost to reach this one. It may take a few tries to get this one. When you come back to where the crane fell, take the turn in front of it. You will see two sets of arrows pointing down and another path going up. Go up this path and go to the left side of this rooftop and jump. The card is hanging just over the edge.To get to this card, get to the same rooftop that you fell off of to get Card 4. This time, take the path that is to the left of the split arrows. Jump the next few rooftops until you come to one that curves down. The card is along the right side of the roof right before you jump

In this race, the army and the citizens will be fighting and each lap, tanks will move farther up the beach, giving you a few more obstacles to avoid. On the first lap, nothing really goes wrong that affects the course. On Lap 2, part of the bridge over the beach will collapse and a helicopter will fly into an arch, the second incident being a Key Event. On the final lap, part of the bridge leading to the line will collapse as you get close.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4
At the end of the beach, take the path on the left that goes through the town. After rounding the turn, the card will be on the right, in front of one of the driveways. As you approach the arch, you should see this card sitting on the hill to the left. This card cannot be obtained until the piece of the bridge over the beach falls on the second lap. When it does, you will be able to see it behind the bridge piece, through the supports. This card is easiest to obtain on the last lap, when part of the last bridge blows up and slightly collapses. You will be able to get onto a lower section of an already broken bridge section on the way to the finish. The card is in here. You may be able to get it by driving in the wrong direction, but it easier to wait until the last lap.

This race is pretty simple, the only thing (besides other racers) that you'd really have to worry about are the overpass supports, if you are riding on the lower roads, and the dividers. On the second lap, part of one of the ramps at the beginning will be taken out.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4
As you make your way up the hill as the beginning, you will see a broken piece of highway laying in the middle of the road. The Card is beneath the raised back end.Just beyond Card 1's location is a ramp that leads up. On Lap 2, that ramp will be taken out. Go around it on the right. The card will be next to one of the supports on the right. When driving on the overpass, there will be a couple chunks missing after a long turn; one on the left and one on the right. At the end of this section, you will see the card on the left side. You may have to push a few of the cars out of the way to be able to get it.Just beyond Card 2's location, there is an off-road section. On the right side, there will be a ledge that leads to the card.

About 12 of the other racers will be on small vehicles, the others will be in Monster Trucks or Big Rigs. Despite it being a Monster Truck, you will probably be pushed around by pretty much everyone else. Your Ram attacks will do next to nothing to the big vehicles and your best shot at wrecking the smaller ones is just to drive over them. You will probably be able to get in 2 1/2 laps before the event ends.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3
At the beginning of the race, go through the building on your right that all the Bikes and ATVs go through. The card will be on the right side of the jump. After a couple of turns, the path will split into two around some buildings. There is a gap between a couple of buildings and the card will be sitting there. After going through the burning building and rounding a turn or two, the card will be at the top of the track near a fenced area.

    Race-3 Laps

Finish 5th or higher: Qualified for the Next Race/New Motion Comic(s)

Finish 1st: Unlocked Hardcore Race in Special Events

In this race, everything will be going to hell. The ground will constantly shake, stuff will be falling, objects will move on their own and a bunch of other things. Most of the course will be muddy, so the Mudplugger will do well in the mud. It isn't too bad on land either, but the handling will suffer a bit. On Lap 2 or 3 (It can change each time you restart), you will get a Key Event after going around the first turn. This will cut off about half the track, and you won't be able to access it again for the rest of the race.

A couple turns later, a ship will crash beneath a jump, changing most of the course. The card is off that ramp.

Get to the Carrier before it leaves

You will have 2:15 to reach the Carrier. The entire way there, buildings will be crumbling around you. There will be flares placed along the course to help you find your way. In this event, your final position doesn't matter, as long as you finish within the time limit. You can afford a few wrecks, but too many and you won't be able to get to the Carrier in time. When you come to a suspension bridge, you are close to the finish. You will want to have at least 30 seconds left on the clock. The bridge will oscillate while you go across it, limiting the effectiveness of your Boost. The event will end once you jump off the end of the bridge. This is the end of Mash's story

As you approach the start of the race, the first building will begin collapsing as the start gets counted down. This is a good chance to try for 'Air Assault' if you haven't already gotten it, as well as "Pure as Mud" and "Target Locked". This course is almost identical to "Aces High" in Mash's story. Not much will happen in this race until late. One of the buildings will fall on Lap 2, taking out part of the upper path. On the last lap, the big building you would usually jump through will fall and turn into somewhat of a ramp.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4Card 5
When you reach the first building, take to the rooftops. On the building with a "Skyline" banner there will be a ramp. Go to the left of the ramp and jump off to get the card. After going through the first buildings after crossing the start/finish line, jump out on the left. The card will be along the right side, near some pipes. When taking the high path, you will pass the crane. On the left are two sets of arrows pointing down. As you get closer, you should see an opening in the building ahead, beneath the ramp for the arrows on the left. When race starts, you will want to stay near the middle. There are plenty of wrecked cars on the road and most of the bigger vehicles will run into them and knock them around, as well as wrecking themselves. Being in the middle allows to react better in case something all of a sudden appears in front of you. The Superbike can't survive much, even running into water barrels can wreck you. Most of the course is already pre-destroyed and not much will fall during the race. The one advantage it does have is cornering. You won't have to slow down much, if at all, to take most of the corners.

    Card 1Card 2Card 3Card 4
When the race begins, go to the left side after the first jump. There will be a chunk of road that has fallen. The card is just off to the right of where the road dips. When riding on the low path from the beginning, you will see some water barrels on the left near a building with a fence. The card is just past these barrels. If you pass a police car, you've gone too far. When riding on the high path from the beginning, take it all the way until it ends. The card is floating in mid-air of the jump at the end.Go to the right when you go through the park. You will see a ramp ahead of you. Don't take it; instead, go downhill. The card is just past the ramp.

There are many different paths to take for the majority of the course. Because you are racing on a ravaged beach, most of the surfaces will be slick so there will be cars sliding around. This also makes taking turns easier by just sliding into and through them. One path that no one will take is at the end. There are a couple building you can drive through. If you stay along the beach, there is an opening along the water that you can drive through, as well. That path is a quick way to jump a few positions.

It is not so much the waves that you have to worry about here, it is the mutilation. There are 2 tornadoes outside of the course and lightning will strike almost everything. This course is basically a reverse, more destroyed version of the Pier Pressure course about 3 races ago. As the race goes on, the first tornado will move closer to the course and cause a nearby boat and debris to catch fire.

Just make sure that you don't do that yourself because there is plenty of fire to help overheat you. When driving through the puddles, stay off to the sides.
