What is the star element?

  1. Or more importantly, is there some way to calculate a target's resistance to the star element so you know when to use it over fire, ice, and wind?

  1. Put simply, the star element is a non elemental element, if that makes sense. It's like a fire, water of wind attack that doesn't get modified by elemental resistances. Its damage is reduced by res rather than def, so it's good to use against high def targets too. Physical star attacks are still physical, so they're affected by things like the skeletal dragon's 50% resistance to physical attacks.

Basically, if the fire resistance is negative, use fire. If all resistances are 0%, use the spell with the highest boost level. In AoE attacks, use star, since you won't have to worry about their elemental affinity.

  1. The Star Element is like A non elemental magical attack simply put enemies will take more damage from star attacks if all their elements are above 0% resistance like some bosses and the annoying priests heretics.

  2. IMHO star is best used against things when you are spamming lets take into example Coo4 from disgaea 1 where your not looking at their % but want to kill them cause a random resist slows down your grinding but when your like fighting lets say baal your best bet would be to use the % he is weak to cause you will have your eyes on every aspect of baal's weaknesses or strengths thats generally how i decide if i want to use start or elemental magic

  3. The star element IS an element, it is simply an element virtually all enemies resist against to the same degree. Doing a quick test, it appears as if the resistance to star magic is 0% for the overwhelming majority of enemies*, which is in line with their reduction of the SP cost of star magic down to that of the other elements to help make star magic a more viable line of spells.

*(Zapping the same enemy with fire and star magic boosted the same number of times at special experience level 1 with the same character did approximately the same damage, and it was a powerful enough attack that a 20% reduction would be readily apparent.)

There are two major things to be aware of with star magic. First, star magic is basically always effective, as just about anything that resists star magic resists all elements or magic as well, anyway. This makes it very useful in places like the class world where the gate guards are surrounded by units, and you can simply blanket the area in a highly upgraded Omega Star later in the game to clear everything out of the way without even bothering to look for weaknesses or trying to move enemies out of the way.

The other important part about star magic is evilities. The only resistance to star magic comes from evilities, and star magic can be used to get past some evilities. Slimes, which resist non-elemental attacks are vulnerable to star magic and star-elemental physical attacks (like blast finger or calamity drive) just like they would be to regular elements. Likewise, heretics can give protection against star elemental attacks. I don't exactly check it, but I seriously doubt many enemies use the star body evility, so generally, anything star element resistant is either resisting all magic, all elements, or your species/gender.

On another note, in non-class or non-item world stages, many of the more magical classes have resistance to the three more common elements, making star a more attractive choice.

  4. Star has had an odd formula in past Disgaeas. I'm not sure if it's sticking with this, but in the past they have had 20% Resistance against them, and very rare odds of bypassing Geopanels.
