In 2010, the U.S. Air Force linked 1,700 PS3 consoles together to form a supercomputer. This computer could form over 500,000,000,000,000 calculations per second, over 50 times faster than the average laptop at the time. This was done to save costs; a traditional system would have cost 10 to 20 times more than the PS3 consoles did!
