Why does my PS3 keep telling me DNS error when i sign in?

  1. I had to disconnect my computer and my router because i was getting the room painted i put everything in exactly the same as it was before and now it wont work. My PS3 is able to find the IP address but the internet connection failed. I have a wireless router. It is a linksys WRT54GS. Please help me find the answer to this problem.

  4. How many computers/devices are connecting via your router? From time to time I will have trouble connecting, with the same message you are getting, and its usually an ip conflict with something else. I can access the internet on both machines, but it gets really wonky. Try disabling your other devices, turning on the ps3, letting it get settled, then turning the other devices back on.

Accepted Answer

  1. Switch to OpenDNS

1.) Open your routers setup thingy (default is if you haven't configured your router, your username and pass most probably is "admin")

2.) Change the "Static DNS 1" and "Static DNS 2" to

    Static DNS 1:
    Static DNS 2:

That should automatically change the PS3's DNS settings since you've changed the DNS from the router.

I also had problems with my PS3 not connecting to the Internet/PSN. It always gives me errors. So, I tried looking for solutions on the Playstation Forums. I've read a tip that said you should try changing your DNS settings (preferably to OpenDNS).

After switching to OpenDNS, my PS3 was able to connect to the Internet and PSN.

    Hope that helps.

If it still doesn't work, try going to the Official Playstation Forums

Other Answers

  1. Try unplugging your router and leaving it unplugged for a couple of minutes before plugging it back in. This happened to me a couple of times and this fixes it for me.
