Game Trivia

  • Gaudi, the computer Otacon uses to control the miniature Metal Gears, is a reference to the Junker HQ supercomputer in Snatcher. It's easy for English audiences to miss this, though, since 'Gaudi' was changed to 'Jordan' in Snatcher's localization.

  • Octacon's conversation at Shadow Moses letting Snake to know swap the disc is a parody reference to the disc swap from Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation. Metal Gear Solid featured two game discs because Metal Gear Solid game size forced the distribution to require two discs at the time of its release. This forces players to change the disc to continue the story of the game.

Octacon's statement is also triggered at the same location at Shadow Moses and after a boss fight just like the first game before Metal Gear Solid tells the player to swap the disc, thus making Octacon's reference from his conversation alot more accurate to Metal Gear Solid's in-game location of the disc swap event.

  • Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots only saw release on the PlayStation 3, no thanks partly due to Konami taking full advantage of Blu-Ray's storage space. At the time of its release 50 gigabytes of data was unheard of for a game, in contrast to most titles eating up six or eight.

  • Boss... you were right. It's not about changing the world. It's about doing our best to leave the world... the way it is. It's about respecting the will of others, and believing in your own. - Big Boss

  • War has changed. It's no longer about nations, ideologies or ethnicity. It's an endless series of proxy battles, fought by mercenaries and machines. War, and its consumption of life, has become a well-oiled machine. War has changed. ID tagged soldiers carry ID tagged weapons, use ID tagged gear. Nanomachines inside their bodies enhance and regulate their abilities. Genetic control. Information control. Emotion control. Battlefield control. Everything is monitored, and kept under control. War has changed. The age of deterrence has become the age of control. All in the name of averting catastrophe from weapons of mass destruction. And he who controls the battlefield, controls history. War has changed. When the battlefield is under total control, war... becomes routine.
