An Uninvited Guest. How do I catch the Thief?

Can someone explian how you catch the thief in the An Uninvited Guest Quest. I been after him for hours, over and over and over.... Please help. Thanks.

When you are chasing him, how do you subdue him. Do you try to grab him or try to punch him? When he runs back toward me I tried grab and he just runs around me,, I also tried removing my weapons and punch but had bo luck with that approach either. My pawn keeps saying "If we can lift him off his feet we'll have him." So I guess what I"m saying is How? :)

I assume you have talked to the two affected merchants and have then gone back to the innkeeper to trigger part 2 of the quest
I will also assume that you have waited until nightfall before venturing out into town.
Now it is only a matter of hanging around until you see him. He raced in front of me right outside the inn. Then it's simply a matter of giving chase.
If your question is in the chase itself, then all I have to say is you have to keep chasing. He is quite fast and I lost him more than once. I finally caught him only because he ran back after escaping from me and practically ran into me....
Do remember do hit the RT button to actually grab him when you're near enough though!

There are also a few skills that allow you to knock him off his feet making grabbing him even easier

What I found easiest is IF you are fighter you can use burst strike. He will be knocked to the ground and then just grab him.
Otherwhise what I find is easist is NOT to chase him. he will run the route 2ce before leaving though the gate. Catch him coming back down the hill before he cuts over to the building by the beach -
Pike runs a few patterns. The easy way to catch him is to chase him uphill to the cemetery by the chapel, then jump over the low brick wall to the right and drop down to the stairs while he runs all the way around and down. Another easy place to catch him is when he heads towards the beach, he runs on a narrow ledge just right of the half demolished building, straight through the bush. When he runs this course he will do a 180 and come straight back.

Use "Grab" just tap it. Funnel him into a narrow path and catch him head on.
