What is the difference between a mage and a sorcerer?

  1. Does a sorcerer help you better than a mage? Does a sorcerer cast more powerful spells than a mage? I'm thinking about changing one of my pawns to a sorcerer, can someone explain it to me, thanks.

  1. Well from what i've read just let your imagination go free Lol, joking. Sorcerers are a wayyyy more buffed up version, like if you where a monster and you evolved you went from Harry Potter to Dumbldore, from little boy to old man who's been doing magic all his life.

Basically you get immensely powerful spells which wipe out monsters pretty quick, HOWEVER (yes it needed to be in caps) you casting rate for these spells is extremely low which take a while to cast. So some give and take. The people i know love the damage but hate having to delay the monster till it goes off. So if your confident that your allies can withstand being thrashed it's a good option to go. Hope i helped and keep playing this amazing game.

  1. I have played as a Mage until I reached maximum vocation ranking before becoming a Sorcerer.

There are several pros and cons to changing to a sorcerer. Basically a Sorcerer is a more Offense-oriented version of the Mage. I found my spells to be extremely potent in terms of power and effectiveness. The spells you gain from a Sorcerer can affect entire areas and hordes of enemies in a single strike. The downside to them is their casting time. I find myself running far away from the main fighting scene as I can and prepping a Maelstrom, a Seism, or a Bolide and after it is prepped I slowly walk towards the enemy where I can target them. You have to make sure your pawns are good enough to take the enemy head on to distract the beasts, especially boss monsters.

What I like to do when I spot hordes or battalions of enemies is cast a powerful area of effect on them before they can even spot me before ordering my pawns to attack.

Second aspect you must consider is the use of Debilitating and Curative Magic. Sorcerers have NO access to Curative spells. That can be offset with a Mage Pawn that has a Halidom or Anodyne spell and since I find A LOT of curatives EVERYWHERE in Gransys, it's no problem at all.

Thirdly Stamina runs out FAST when casting powerful spells. I don't like delaying so I cast spells in quick succession as my Stamina allows which leaves me vulnerable after a massive spell. But I find no problem with it since my pawns ARE VERY GOOD in distracting said opponent.

Fourth. You will find that while prepping spells you are vulnerable to attacks. When you are placed in that situation just JUMP out of the way and run out of the way. I managed to finish an entire quest without getting hurt or needing curatives!

Fifth. Strategy. Know HOW TO FIGHT AN ENEMY. Chimeras move around a lot so dont spend a lot of time in one place and make sure to hide. Cyclops are dumb and will attack anyone thats in front of them so stay BEHIND IT! Hordes of rogues or goblins are no problem if you attack them before they see you!

I found casting NECROMANCY before attacking a horde is helpful to take out those who come to close. MIASMA IS GOOD, BOLIDE meteors home in on opponents, SEISM attacks everything in front of you, and MAELSTROM IS JUST BADASS!

  1. a Mage is defensive and is able to cast spells that improve your party's survivability but at the cost of damage. a Sorcerer can do a lot of damage but has almost no way of boosting the party's strength and the very powerful spells take a long time to cast and easily canceled plus the a.i not very bright more than once I've caught my main pawn trying to cast Maelstrom in the middle of a wolf pack. in short just experiment and see which one you like better.

  2. As far as I know Mages have a heal spell whereas Sorcerers can not have this spell. A mage is a spellcaster that has a basic knowledge and average spell power, A Sorcerer is a specialist mage that deals in high damage and status ailment magics. I upgraded from Mage to Sorcerer and the casting time is only about 10-20% longer however the damage output you recieve from thiss change is immense. I can kill dire wolves with a single High Ingle whereas it took 1 Ingle+High Ingle to kill them.

When you change voaction you gain the Miasma spell which is unparralelled against human foes. Poison decimates bandits and rouges within seconds.

My view on the Saucy role is to debilitate the enemy first then bring the pain with high damage spells. Keeping monsters debuffed will allow your party to take advantage of these ailments and make battles considerably shorter.

I may have gone a little off topic but I think that info might help you a little in your choices.
