Cannot give Steph the rope?

I am having a hard time with the game raw danger for ps2, i can not " give" anything to anyone, i am stuck trying to give steph the rope, and i do not know how to fix it. please help lol...

WHEN YOU HAVE THE ROPE PRESS THE SQUARE BUTTOM AND CLICK THE GIVE BUTTON THEN IT WILL SHOW HER NAME THEN CLICK ON HER NAME and thats it
