Rumors that the game contained underage eroticism, sadomasochism, and children buried alive caused controversy at release. Rome's mayor called for a ban of this game in late 2006, saying: "There is no need for massive doses of horror to entertain our children. I think those who create and make such games must have perverse minds". Franco Frattini, justice minister of the European Union, was stridently in favor of banning the game as well, despite never playing it or getting advice from PEGI (the European ratings board). Though the rumors were categorically false, 505 Games ended up cancelling or pulling many of its PAL releases. The game is now considered a collector's item, often retailing several hundred dollars just for a used copy.
