A: Author's Notes
==============================================================================
I wanted to create this guide mainly as a reference for the items you can
refine from medallions, as I couldn't find any guide for this anywhere for
Haunting Ground. Except for equipment, I left out items like magnesia or
antimony that have descriptions provided for you in the game.

If anyone would like to contribute on this, please e-mail me with any
suggestions you might have. I'd actually be interested in anyone's
thoughts on the effectiveness of items, observations regarding the refining
process, or error corrections. I will add information at my discretion and
credit the contributor appropriately.

This is my first FAQ ever, and I would LOVE some feedback if you would care to
take the time! I would also be happy to answer any questions about refining
or medallions. I'll probably make a section for questions and answers if I
get some later on.

==============================================================================
B: Updates
==============================================================================
Version 1.0: This guide is not yet complete, and for some status items I can
only tell you if they are good or bad. This is because I only refined one of
them, and couldn't check the description in the game. I will update these as
I can. Additionally, I am not 100% sure I have every status item listed here,
but I'm pretty close.

Verstion 2.0 Corrected a wrong description for the Nigred item, added a
description for Remedium, and added descriptions for Torva and Weltigo which
were provided by Loo.

==============================================================================
C: Introduction to Medallions
==============================================================================

Medallions can be found throughout Haunting Ground and are a great asset if
you know what you're doing. Frustration may lead you to just pound the X
button and simply take whatever you get, but if you experiment and practice a
little, you can get some powerful items that make the game much more fun. The
best thing to do is to accumulate a lot of medallions, save your game, and
then head to the synthesizing hole. If you get bad or weak items, reload the
game and try again. It can be time-consuming, but is definitely worth it.

There are six types of medallions in the game. Certain types of medallions
are assigned a specific color and are predisposed to refine certain types of
items. You should try to get as many of the matching color as possible to
get a good item with these medallions. Additionally, it is also generally
better to get many of the same color when using a regular medallion. Of
course, there are exceptions! Sometimes combining different colors together
can also get you a powerful item.

Besides equipment and attack items that can be found elseware, medallions
refine into a number of mysterious healing and status items that can't be
obtained any other way. These items can restore Fiona or Hewie's stamina,
lower panic, send Hewie in to a frenzy, or even cause harm to your characters.
The only way to know what these items do is to try them out, after which a
description will appear in your inventory. The problem is, if you just have
one of an item, you won't know exactly what it does until you manage to refine
it again. You might end up wasting items or medallions, so this is where this
guide comes in. Additionally, in hard mode your only source of healing items
for Fiona are medallions--there is no lavender or chamomile in hard mode.

==============================================================================
Section I: Medallions
==============================================================================

It can be hard to get good items from medallions, but if you know what the
different colors do, and with some practice, you can get good at it. Certain
colors create certain items. Note that there are a lot of exceptions--for
example, I'm pretty sure any medallion can yield another medallion, although
some types seem to do this more than others.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
a: Colors
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

White:   Fiona healing/status items

Blue:    Hewie healing/status items

Green:   Equipment and medallions

Red:     Attack items

Gold:    Any
         *Note: I'm not sure exactly what the gold color does. I get the
         impression that it just increases your chances of getting a better
         item based on whatever other colors you have. Think of it as a wild
         card.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
b: Types
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Medallion (All): Chance of any type of item. Sometimes you get a
                          specific color in the center automatically; it's
                          probably a good idea to try to match this color.

Viola Medallion (Blue): Items for Hewie. Yields better and/or more healing
                          items the more blues you get.

Rubrum Medallion (Red): Attack items. Yields better and/or more attack
                          items the more reds you get.

Album Medallion (White): Items for Fiona. Yields better and/or more items
                          the more whites you get.
                          *Note: I have also refined powerful equipment with
                          these medallions, including feather boots. Try
                          getting white in almost every circle, with one or
                          two golds.

Viride Medallion (green): Equipment and often various medallions. Yields
                          better and/or more items the more greens you get.
                          *Note: I've noticed getting a variety of colors with
                          this medallion often yields a magist medallion.

Magist Medallion (All): The best medallion you can get. No default color,
                          and you can't get any blanks. Yields any type of
                          item, depending on what colors you stop on.
                          Generally gives you more powerful items, and it's
                          not hard to get good equipment with these. SAVE
                          YOUR GAME before using them. It's worth the extra
                          trouble to try a few times on these!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
c: Refining Techniques
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Refining medallions can be difficult. There is no set pattern to the colors
and they rotate very fast. Trying to get a certain color may seem impossible,
but mashing the X button non-stop is NOT the best way to get good items,
especially with plain medallions. It's best to watch the colors and try to
time it right. Just save before you use accumulated medallions and practice.
You will get a feel for it eventually and have more success. Also note that
the machine will automatically stop on a color (or blank) if you wait too long
to press X, but you have about 10 seconds before that happens.

==============================================================================
Section II: Equipment
==============================================================================

For certain rare items, I have noted which medallion I refined it from.
This is not necessarily the only way to refine the item. Most equipment is
refined from Viride or Magist Medallions, but there are some exceptions.

Metal Boots: 2x kick power, minor chance of hitting the enemy with a
                      power attack.

Burst Shoes: Occasionally hit the enemy with an explosive kick.

Feather Boots: Eliminate the sound of Fiona's footsteps, making her
                      harder to find (Album Medallion).

Silver Boots: 5x kick power, high chance of hitting the enemy with a
                      power attack (Viride or Magist).

Inquisitor Earrings: Slightly increase the speed at which you calm down from
                      a panic

Philosopher Earrings: Increases the speed at which you calm down from a panic,
                      as well as mental stability (I assume this means Fiona
                      panics less).

Alchemist Earrings: Recover from panic much faster than usual, and panic
                      less when hit.

Fairy Earrings: Fiona becomes invisible when not moving, making
                      it harder for enemies to find her
                      *Note: These are VERY useful in normal mode. With
                      these earrings, you can kneel down and hide almost
                      anywhere (obviously not in a place where the stalker
                      will walk into you accidentally), and they also make
                      normal hiding spots more effective. In normal mode
                      while using these, I was never discovered even one time
                      by a stalker. In hard mode,they somewhat less
                      effective.

Jade Choker: Reduces the speed at which stamina is lost and increases
                      recovery speed. Also increases the chances of avoiding
                      an enemy power attack.

Ruby Choker: Exactly the same as the Jade Choker

Diamond Choker: Greatly reduces the speed at which stamina is lost and
                      doubles stamina recovery speed. Player is impervious to
                      all power attacks.
                      *Note: Although it says the player will be impervious to
                      power attacks, I have been hit with power attacks while
                      wearing this Choker. It might have been a chance
                      glitch, so if someone can confirm this, let me know.

Obsidian Choker: Makes it harder for Luminessants to track Fiona

==============================================================================
Section III: Refined Status Items
==============================================================================

I have only forged one of certain items, and I can only tell you if they are
good or bad. I will update as I can.

*Note: Since "reduce" and "restore" look kind of similar, I put (bad) even on
the items with full descriptions to avoid anyone misreading.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fiona items:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For certain rare items, I have noted which medallion I refined it from.
This is not necessarily the only way to refine the item.

Quies: Restores a small amount of stamina

Recreatio:  Restores stamina completely

Mundus: Reduces panic by a small amount

Sedetio:    Completely reduces panic

Carbo: Reduces stamina by a small amount (Bad)

Nigred:     Completely reduces stamina (Bad)

Fortis: Completely restores stamina and prevents Fiona from losing stamina
            for a period of time (Magist Medallion)

Weltigo: Reduces a small amount of stamina and mutes all the sound in the
            game (Bad)
            *Provided by Loo

Remedium: Stamina is slowly restored, but you slowly panic as a result.
            (Bad)

Torva: Increases panic by a small amount (Bad)
            *Provided by Loo

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hewie items:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Esca: Restores a small amount of stamina

Magna Esca:     Restores stamina completely

Benannem Esca: Completely reduces stamina (Bad)

Sylvesta Esca: Makes Hewie angry--he goes into a rampage and attacks
                everything in sight, including Fiona.
                *Note: I don't use these, but they might be useful during boss
                fights or encounters with stalkers you want to knock out.
