There are 9 buttons, and the player must time the hits so the buttons are pressed when the colored bubbles (Mr. Pops or pop-kuns) hit the line. You are then graded, receiving either a Boo, Good, or Great. At the bottom is a meter, and one must get the bar past the clear mark and keep it there to pass. Songs are graded on a number scale: e.g. a 5 is easy, a 30 is hard. There are 3 main difficulties, Normal, Hyper, and EX, as well as different modes. The controls are usually as follows: 1.2. Controls Official Pop'N Music Controller B D F H A C E G I Dual Shock 2 (Default Setting!) L1 U,D Tri,X R1 L2 L R,Sq. Circle R2 You can play on either 5 or 9 key/lines . For the Dual Shock Controller, 5 Line is reccomended. Either way, it's fun! 1.3. Game Modes Game Menu Options: Arcade Mode: Normal, Challenge, Expert, and Battle modes can be accessed. Free Training: Allows practice of songs that have been played in Arcade Mode. Study Channel: Much like Lesson Mode in Dance Dance Revolution, Slowly teaches methods of play. Sugoroku De 8: The Unlock System can be accessed here. Records: High Scores and Records for songs played in 5 line and 9 line modes in Normal, Challenge, and Expert can be found here. Arcade Mode: Normal: Songs and characters are selected in normal play. Challenge: Objectives are given to complete before song selection. Expert: A course is chosen that has a couple of songs all in a row, without a break. Battle: Two players use 3 buttons on each side of the controller to play, and attacks are launched to distract the other player. Note: To use modifiers during Arcade, press B, H, or Select and then you can access Hi Speed, Random, etc. Free Training: Here you can practice songs, and also modify them to work on certain parts. Start: Begins Training Session Music Select: Choose song to practice (Note: You must first play a song in Arcade Mode to have it appear here.
