One of the best platformers on the PS2

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is one of the best platformer games of 2002, and on the Playstation 2 for that matter. Much like Crash Bandicoot 3, Sly Cooper is a platformer game that isn’t just hopping throughout the entire game. Sly has really cool mini-games that include street racing, providing cover fire for your friends, or just dancing. You will also rely heavily on stealth, to get past force fields and huge enemies. The game features cell-shaded graphics that look really cool, and unique characters. If there was only one flaw with the game, it is that the game is way too easy!

Gameplay: 10/10
Sly Cooper, like most platform games, it is all about the gameplay baby! Sly Cooper is a game that features elements from many types of games. It has stealth, which is very important to get through the game, it also features some street racing, and in some missions you have to provide cover fire for friends. You can unlock new moves that are vital every time you beat a boss. The game has very cool and diverse bosses that offer a little challenge. You can’t go wrong the fun (and simple) Sly Cooper.

Graphics: 9/10
The cell-shaded graphics are marvelous. They have cut-scenes that are actually great artist drawings that have some motion. Did you understand that? The only thing that hurt the score was some brief slowdown problems that made the screen blur a little bit. But as far as platform games go, Sly Cooper is about as artistic as it gets. Great character designs, and the artist drawing cartoon cut-scenes make the visuals stand out.

Game Time: 6/10
The game really falls short of the game length area. They should have named this game Thievius Too-e-zius for crying out loud! But, some parts have really cool things that will make Sly Cooper a memorable game. This game fits more into the “short and sweet” category of gaming.

Story: 9/10
The story is the textbook revenge story, which is used in many games. But this story has a little twist that makes it not just a revenge story. The story is you were a little kid that comes from a long line of thieves. But if you are planning on buying this for your kid, it is not the M- rated Grand Theft Auto type of thief, Sly is more of a cartoon-style thief wearing a little mask. But on with the story. Our raccoon friend’s parents are killed by a group of five thugs known as the Fiendish Five but let you live. They take your family’s most precious item: The Thievius Raccoonus. It is the book that contains all the family secrets about thieving. Now, Sly is on a quest to get revenge for his parents and retain the Thievius Raccoonus.

Sound: 10/10
The incredible voice-acting brings Sly and his animal counterparts to life. The sound effects are really cool, and the music is pretty catchy too. Sly is kind to your ears.

Replay Value: 8/10
This game seems to really fall short of replay value, which is weird for platform games. You may play it again, if you have nothing to do with your life at the moment.

Control: 9/10
The controls at the very beginning of the game can take brief learning, but your animal friends are here to help. Most of the controls are pretty easy for beginners. The controls become a second nature and hopping the platforms will be a piece of cake.

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is an easy game for beginners of gaming. It would make a great rental and is one of the most promising platform games of the year. Go and RENT this game now! I sure hope they make sequels for this game!
