The key to a succesful horror game...

The key to a succesful horror game is to keep the player alert and never safe... To make the player afraid of the unknown and keeping it that way trough the whole game...

I must admit that I were´nt that impressed when I saw the trailer for Silent Hill 3 back in year 2002 when I just completed Silent Hill 2. I mean, the Hapy Birthday song man singing in the background and the fuzzy scenes with Claudia for instance made me skeptical at first. Could this possible be a good follow up I thought?

However, when I later saw the game complete, read the reviews of frightened Japanese gamers and seen the pictures of very disturbing stuff. I decided that I had to get the game, and so I did, by renting it here in Europe, Sweden.

When I got home I waited i until night time and started the game...

Story - 10/10 Since one of the most intersting things in the game is the storyline, I wont reveal much, in fact, I will only tell you that this game does answer at least some of the popping questions during gameplay.
The fact how every charachetr blend in to each other wors very well except for some friendship relations which could ge a bit to fast forward.
he story could psychically get stuck in your mind for a while...

Graphics - 10/10 Well, what can I say? Heather, the girl you control can´t get anymore realsitc for the moment being, she could show tons of different impressions just looking at the cutscenes. Her face filled with small amount of mascara that dropped down her cheek and her smile when she is on the phone... So on... The other charachters are also very very well made.
The suroundings, the mall for instance is very realistic with the look of being open for some time without too much effort at keeping the place clean. The Alternative places look great, I mean freaky... It kind of gets to you... The bloody walls, corpses from bizarre death´s and the light and shafows reflecting each other creating a perfekt dark athmopshere...

Sounds - 10/10 Moving on, the music and sound effects in the game is also vey very good... I would want to know how they made/got those creepy sounds of the monsters and screams...
Its perfect how Akira made his music fit into the game, ''Youre not here'' represents Silent Hill 3 very good, and moving on... The sound of different slashes made by Heather or monsters can vary and the different steps and screams of pain made by the charachters and monsters are almost to real that it makes one wonder if they actually did put the voice actors in pain to get that kind of effect...

Control - 9/10 I dont know if the creators of Silent Hill 3 made this on purpose, but the controls can be frustrating sometimes. Heather can shoot, run and fall down when getting hurtand more, and as usual thee is also a camera perspektive to watch from. Sometimes it just wont work out seeing a view of Heather walking against the screen, but that could be fixed by altering the camera by pressing L2.
Her aim can be a pain and how the autoaim sometime´s on or sometimes off... But the way I figure it... Thats great, because not everyone are born with exeprtise on using different kinds of weapons and inte naturally that you can miss and do misstakes when under pressure. The control kind of reflects tp that fact...
Still, after A while, youget used to it and it actually works.

Playability - 9/10 The question is if you should buy or rent? I would say buy if you´re one of those who are hard to scare... For those that found Resident Evil Code Veronica scary should keep away from this game.
This game is most enjoyable when playng though the first time, unknown of the things that will happen during the gameplay.
The number of secrets and enings that can be aquired is also a good add on bonus to the game.

I personally loved this game, it contained everything a good horror game should have and not have:

Not too big and overpowered weapon arsenal except for one of the weapons aquired during the gameplay, making the player feel unsafe with the little he/she has

Unexpected things that still does´nt contain one of those scare for the moment kind of scenes ehere something pops out and scares one with high volume or smething.. It creeps up onto ones mind and gets stuck...

The way Konami combined every part of the game almost eperfectly into one fully working game.

What I hope is that Konami actually put in more extra endings for Silent Hill gamers to find when they want to...

Great game... It deserves its 10 points. Not recomended for the weakminded gamers that does´nt want to get scared up the ''Heart Attack level''

Rating:   5.0 - Flawless
