  • There's a unique intro animation when Guile and Rugal fight. There is a statue of Guile standing between them, and it promptly gets destroyed. This is a reference to The King of Fighters 94, which established that Rugal preserved defeated fighters in liquid metal and put them on display. In fact, one of those original statues was of Guile; it was a jab at Capcom's success with Street Fighter II. Its appearance in this game brings the entire 7 year-long reference full circle.

  • One of Ryu's victory quotes is: "What strength! I won't forget that there are many like you all over the world!" This is a reference to the very first Street Fighter game, where every defeated opponent (except for Sagat, the final boss,) would tell you, "What strength! But don't forget there are many guys like you all over the world."
