What's a chef to do when he's on an alien-infested ship with the rest of the crew dead?

PO'ed is one of those unheard of games in nearly the same fashion as Doom. It's actually very humorous and one of the first FPS to have a jetpack. Is it worth it though?

Story: 3/10
Not much story. Ox is a chef that ends up watching the ship's crew get killed by nasty aliens, and only able to take down a few of the buggers. Ox decides to do something about it after one of the aliens ruins his souffle. Very basic story.

Graphics: 8/10
These graphics aren't the best, but they aren't the worst either. The best graphics have to be for the weapons and enemies. They are in incredible detail and the developers must have spent the most time making the enemies look good. The walls are warped at times, and some of the floors are just solid colours. Of course, there are some levels with nifty-looking reflecting floors in them, which are noticable in levels like 'Core' and 'Skyway'. No other game back then was able to do that to floors!

Gameplay: 10/10
Definately the strong point of the game. All that needs to be done is run around levels, triggering switches, and killing hordes of aliens, ranging from the low-life ralphs to the mighty cypiders. When you start off, the levels are rather straight forward, but later on the levels get better, especially after the levels where you get the jetpack. PO'ed has the best jetpack ever in a video game, even better than the one in Duke Nukem 3D. It runs on fuel (the same fuel for the flamethrower) and depending on the skill (on easy the jetpack can be used forever), fuel consumption will vary. The weapons are also awesome and also hilarious. You start off with a frying pan (yes, a frying pan) for a melee weapon. As your health gets lower, the frying pan (and later on, the butcher's knife) will do more damage to enemies. Other weapons range from the BDF90 (some sort of laser pistol) to the incredibly fun to use Missile Cam. You can decide which weapons you'd like to use for certain waves of aliens, but do note that some of them are immune to certain weapons!

Sound/Music: 7/10
The only music in this game is at the menu and also the ending (not telling you what it is though!). The rest of the game does not have any music. I can live with that. The hilarious enemies wouldn't be complete without hilarious sounds. This makes most of the enemies even funnier to fight. The sounds some of the guns make sound cool as well, especially the loud blasts from the rocket launcher and the almighty missile cam, and the resulting explosions when either of their projectiles hit against something.

Overall: 8/10
PO'ed is a decent kind of kill everything kind of game, probably overlooked today by some of the bigger names like Serious Sam and Painkiller. Still, it's worth picking up when you have the chance though. This game is rated 8 out of 10.

Rating:   4.0 - Great
