Director Kenji Eno worried some of the game's cannibalistic themes would prevent the game from being published. To bypass censorship, he kept those scenes secret from others on his team, submitted a clean version (sans problematic content) of the game for approval, and intentionally submitted the master copy late. He knew part of the penalty for this was having to hand-deliver the master to the U.S. manufacturers. So, on his flight to the States, he simply switched the clean, approved version with the copy containing all the controversial content, then let it go to print.
