WCW takes a turn for the worst...and this game proves it.

WCW was once a company with REAL wrestling. Everything was good. Until they started mimicking WWF/E, and got in with horrible storylines. But that's not why i'm writing. It's about their mediocre video game, WCW Backstage Assault. When I first got this game, I thought it was going to be nothing special. And I was so right. Why not play with a slinky or a Rubik Cube instead?! LOL! J/K.

The graphics are real choppy. And any wrestling fan can see that. The muscles look so fake it's not even funny.

The sound is OK. They have theme songs such as Kevin Nash's Wolfpac, Sting, Goldberg, and Jeff Jarett. But with most of the wrestlers in this game, you have stupid song variations that are used for each wrestler at the same time! This might be probably the best thing in the game.

With every wrestling game, there comes a season or career mode. For WCW Backstage Assault, this is the Hardcore Challeneg Mode. You can compete for three different titles, Hardcore, U.S., and World. You have to climb through the ranks to go toe-to-toe with the champ. And this is a great opportunity to unlock secret unlockables. Another challenge is none other than the Hardcore Gauntlet. This is where you fight different series of opponents. There's no time for rest, though. They just keep comin' at ya! This is another good part of the game.

Next there's the CAW mode. Now this isn't like the Smackdown! CAW mode, but it's still OK. You can change appearance, name, abilities, and moves. In fact, the moes are the next part of this review!

Now the moves are nothing to go crazy over. The moves are really rugged and crafty. Is there anything left to say?

Now, the gameplay is the next section. It all takes place backstage. You can fight in the truck arena, locker rooms, the loading bay, the bathrooms, the block, the parking garage, and the media center. Sadly, there's no ring or ringside. Around the areas, you'll find weapons to use. But everytime you use them, they will eventually turn into puffs of smoke! That's not really realistic.

And then you have match types. You have only single matches. No tag team matches. But with single matches, comes variations. You have first-blood and torch matches! They both speak for themselves.

Like I said, this is an overrated game. Don't go mega crazy over it. After you unlock everything, you won't have any reason to keep playing, except with a friend. And I suggest you rent before you buy.

OVERALL: 6/10 (mediocre)

Rating:   3.0 - Fair
