Madden, Obey your thirst.
The gameplay is awesome and as with all madden games, fun to play. The controls are very smooth and easy to master. A vast majority of new options have been included. Including Madden Cards, Cards that can be gained by completing Challenges to gain tokens to buy the cards. The cards contain attribute boosters, cheats, hidden teams and stadiums, and classic players which can be brought back to the game. More options have been added in the Create A Player screen including helmet type and arm accessories(glove, elbow pad with glove, bare arm and etc..). A newer edition is the 2 minute drill which you have to take control of the offense and attempt to score as many times before the time expires or you turnover the ball. Also creating a new team is now possible. Allowing the gamer to make their team with their own team name, uniform, and stadium. Exhibition Mode is still there as usual for playing with all current 31 teams and a whole lot more. Unfortunately, Arcade Mode is is not included in this game like Madden 2000 which is a game mode which includes harder hits and a simpler playbook selection. Franchise Mode allows you to take control of any team in the NFL as the coach and the GM to attempt to take the team to the Super Bowl. Franchise mode goes up to 30 seasons. Players drafted in Franchise mode have a different build than those already in the game which is something that wasn't seen in Madden 2000.
Considering the game is for the playstation, the graphics are quite excellent. Once in while a few tackles will look odd but nothing too big to whine about.
Here is when Madden stumbles but regains ground. The Music played in the menus are rap music but not bad. The sounds of the game are okay as well. Pads hitting, helmets clashing, and an occasional owww!!! However the commentary just plain sucks. Madden and Summerall just say the same things over and over again and gets quite annoying. But once in a while a never heard of phrase is heard. There are some trash talking by the players and announcements done by J.Brown, L.Visser(correct spelling?)and the Referee. Thankfully these sound and music can be adjusted. If you don't like the music, you can uncheck the music and never have to hear them again. Music, SFX, Commentaitor, and Crowd volume can be adjusted to your liking or you can just turn the volume off and listen to the radio or something. The Sound in Madden 2000 is much better though, more trash talking and commentating that actually has something to do with the game and the players.
I've played this game so much that I've gone through 2 playstations playing it. Yes it is worth playing again if you are a Madden fan. I don't even know about other football games out there for the psx but madden.
If you are a Madden Fan or football Fan with a PSX, it is definitely a buy but a rent if you are looking it over with other football games.
Rating: 4.5 - Outstanding
