  • This game was almost not released in the United States due to sensitive religious issues. A focal point in the original Japanese story is "killing God" and translator Richard Honeywood spoke with Japanese staff about changing God's name to something else. The Japanese wanted to use the name "Yahweh." Honeywood argued against this and said "yabeh-o" which means something dangerous in Japanese. Everyone mutually agreed to change the name to "Yabeh" finding that it was a good pun.

  • Director Tetsuya Takahashi wanted to create the game exclusively in 3D, but techinical limitations of the PlayStation prevented this from happening. Instead, the game's engine is designed specifically for the 3D map displays and battle arenas, and the 2D character sprites are meshed with the 3D backgrounds.
