Suikoden II was originally conceived in the early 90's when Yoshitaka Murayama was asked to plan for a RPG for a Konami developed console the company was planning for. Once the console plans were canceled, production of the RPG kept going until Murayama realized he needed more experience making RPGs to fully realize his vision. He therefore instead set out to produce a prequel to this game, a game that eventually was released as Suikoden. After the successful launch of the first Suikoden game, a sequel was greenlit and Murayama resumed work on his dream project. Three years later, his original idea was finally released as Suikoden II.
