Roll Away, aka Kula World in Europe and Kula Quest in Japan, is a deceptively
simple, addictive puzzle game.  In it, you take the role of "the world's
coolest beach ball" and set out to, umm...  Okay, so maybe there's no real
point to this game in the grand scheme of things, but if you were a beach ball
and wanted to get with the ladies, uh, lady beach balls...  Okay, I've got
nothing.

I will admit that this is my first walkthrough.  Given the age and low profile
of the game at this point, it is quite possible that few will ever read it.
I am writing it because it currently has no FAQ on GameFAQs, and I don't like
the idea of repeating information that is already readily available.  Also,
I'm a fan of slightly aged, relatively unknown gems, and would like to help
other like-minded players get through what is a fun, sometimes frustrating
little jaunt.  If you do happen to peruse it and like what you see, please

really goes, I'm just trying to avoid getting spam from robots).  Oh, and I
hereby testify that this is entirely original work, without the use of any
guides, hints, faqs, or sources outside my own patience and perseverance.  Any
exceptions to this in future versions (after 1.00) will be clearly noted.


REGIONAL VERSION DIFFERENCES
There are some minor differences between the versions of this game released in
the different areas of the world ('Roll Away' in North America, 'Kula World'
in Europe, and 'Kula Quest' in Japan), but some of these make for minor
frustrations to non-Japanese release owners.  Basically, the game can only be
truly 100% completed in the Japanese version, because that is the only one in
which you can access all 10 of the hidden levels.  In the other two versions,
one or two of the hidden exits are placed in the wrong levels, in locations
that are impossible to reach.  For example, in the North American 'Roll Away',
the second-last hidden exit appears in level 132, but you can never get to it.
The proper corresponding hidden exit in the Japanese release is in level 134.
Similarly, two of the later hidden exits in the European release are equally
unattainable.  You can still complete all of the normal and bonus levels in
all versions, including 'The Final' mode, but you're just missing out on one
or two hidden levels.  So really, it's no big deal, but if you've struggled to
play a perfect game, you might be left slightly disappointed (I know I was).

The only other difference of note is that in the Japanese 'Kula Quest', there
is a tutorial level that contains elements of all of the various traps and
environments.  You can access this level in the other versions using a
gameshark code (see section 11 below), so it's included on the discs, but the
option was removed from the menu for some unfathomable reason.  Finally, in
the Japanese version again, after you finish a level, it gives you a percent
complete score for that level.  So if you collected every coin, gem, fruit,
key, etc and broke every crumbling block, and basically maxed out your score,
you'll get 100% for each level.  This holds true for levels where it is
impossible to destroy every crumbling block, meaning that you can still get
100% if the block truly cannot be busted.

I have recently revised the entire guide, playing through the game with my
walkthrough and clarifying or correcting instructions where needed.  I hope
this makes my guide even more useful to the 1 or 2 people who view it on some
days (these figures determined by the daily hit counter on GameFAQS.com.  Hey,
it's better than no hits at all, like my Miss Spider's Tea Party guide gets).
I have also added the above version differences for all of my international
readers and import enthusiasts.

Simply added a better solution to bonus level 16, and a way to use the bouncy

                               2. GAME OVERVIEW

The goal of each level is to find the required number of keys to activate the
exit, then get to the exit before the hourglass timer runs out.  Along the
way, you pick up coins, gems and fruit, and make use of or avoid various items
and obstacles as required.  You can roll forward, turn to either side, and
bounce two squares ahead.  When you roll over the edge of a block, you cling
to the side like static, and the surface you're now on now becomes down.
Essentially, gravity is wherever you are.  Getting used to this phenomenon is
the basic key to the game.

The basic 1-player arcade mode has 150 normal levels, plus 30 possible bonus
levels and a 10 hidden levels.  Bonus levels are accessed by finding 5 pieces
of fruit.  Each level has one piece of fruit (or vegetable, technically, but
in keeping with video game traditions and for simplicity, I will simply say
fruit from here on).  Hidden levels are accessed by hidden exits, which appear
in certain levels after you collect all of the keys.  "The Final" mode is
opened up in the 1-player menu once you finish arcade mode.  This mode has no
fruit, bonus levels or hidden levels, but is quite challenging and stupidly
frustrating at times.

Instead of lives, the game runs on points.  You gain points for collecting
gems and fruit and completing a level.  These are added to your total score.
If you die before completing the level, a level penalty (50 X the level
number) PLUS the point value of anything you've collected on that level up to
that point is deducted from your total score. If your total score falls below
zero, it's game over, and hopefully you have a recently saved game.

In the normal game, you get the chance to save every five levels, excluding
bonus and hidden levels.  In The Final mode, it's only every ten levels.

Very, very simple:

Directional buttons - Forward: Roll ball forward.
                    - Left/Right: Turn ball 90 degrees left or right.
X Button: Jump in place.
Forward + X Button: Jump ahead 2 squares.  Hold to jump repeatedly.
R1: Look up.
R2: Look down.
Start: Pause menu.

----- PICKUPS -----
===================

COINS: Gold, 250 points. Blue, 550 points.

GEMS: Blue, red or green, each worth 2975 points.

KEYS: Activate the exit.  The number of keys you need will be shown in the
      bottom left corner of the screen.  The gray icons will turn gold as you
      collect them.  Each key also gives you 1000 points.

FRUIT: Apple, watermelon, pumpkin, bananas and strawberry.  After collecting
       all five and completing the current level, you will begin the next bonus
       level.  Each fruit also gives you 2500 points.

LETHARGY PILLS: Red and yellow pills.  Cause temporary slow movement, dizzy
                rocking of the game screen, and accelerates your timer for 15
                seconds.  Avoid wherever possible.  Only usefulness is to
                accelerate time before collecting an hourglass.

HOURGLASS: Flips your timer upside down, so can either increase or decrease
           the time you have left.  Generally, wait until your time is low
           before collecting.  Also gives you points depending on how much time
           is left in your timer, according to the formula:
           1200 - ([12 X number of seconds left], rounded to the nearest 10).
           So max points, for 1 second remaining, is 1190.

SUNGLASSES: Temporarily reveals transparent blocks, and give you 500 points.

BOUNCY PILLS: Purple and pink pills.  Makes you bouncy!  Once collected,
              pressing forward makes you bounce ahead 2 squares, and pressing
              forward+X bounces you ahead 3 squares.  The effect lasts until
              the level is cleared.

----- HAZARDS -----
===================

SPIKES: Will pop you if you touch them.

MOVING SPIKES: Alternately stick up and retract.  Safe to roll over when
               retracted.  Jump over anytime.

CAPTIVATORS: Moving objects that spell restart level if they touch you.
             Several types.  Blue, green and red short-spiked balls move
             quickly back and forth in a predetermined area, and can be jumped
             over.  Ones with long spikes travel more slowly along a path until
             they come to an object or a wall, then turn around.  Corkscrew-
             shaped ones bounce up and down.  You can roll under them when up,
             or jump over them when down.  Grey cylinders roll slowly around a
             pre-set course, and can be jumped over.  Blue hexagonal balls
             vibrate for a moment then move one space in a random direction.
             The vibration indicates which way they're going to move.

LASERS: Deadly to touch.  Some can be deactivated/activated by same-colored
        switches.

----- SPECIAL BLOCKS -----
==========================

CRUMBLING BLOCKS: Disappear once rolled onto.  You have time to make one move
                  before it vanishes, usually rolling or jumping forward.  You
                  get 50 points for each one you crumble.

ICE: Makes you slide forward.  Pressing jump while on ice will make you jump
     ahead 2 squares without pressing forward.  At the end of a slide, you will
     fall off the edge unless you could normally rotate onto the end (i.e.
     single block wide).  So, if it is a single cube that has ice all around,
     you will keep circling forward around it until you jump off.

FIRE: Dark patch with red lines crisscrossing it.  Touching it will make you
      inflate as the air inside your ball heats and expands, until you pop or
      reach cooler ground.  You can roll onto a maximum of 3 fire squares
      quickly before you pop.  Alternately, you have time to land on a fire
      square, turn and jump or roll off quickly.

INVISIBLE BLOCKS: These blocks cannot be seen until you're close to them
                  (usually within 2 spaces), or sometimes can only be seen from
                  farther away.  Sunglasses will render them visible for a
                  short time.

CLOCK SPOTS: Sitting on one of these freezes your timer, giving you time to
             look around and plan your next move.

BOOST BUTTONS: Will launch you three squares forward, or two forward and one
               up if there is a block there to land on.

ARROWS: Blue and red arrows point in the only direction you can go from these
        squares.  You can't jump over them either, except in the direction they
        point.

VANISHING BLOCKS: These blocks alternately fade in and out of existence.  Jump
                  to them when they're there, not when they're not.

----- OTHERS -----

TELEPORTERS: Red, yellow, blue or green tie-fighter shaped things.  Rotate
             when active.  Rolling onto one will transport you to another same-
             color transporter.

SWITCHES: Small, colored circular button in middle of square.  Alternately
          activates and deactivates transporters and/or lasers of the same
          color each time you roll over one.  Will flash when activated.

EXITS: Transparent rotating "X", red at first, then green once you have all
       the keys.  Once activated (green), touching it will end the level, so
       get all the points you can before you roll onto it.

HIDDEN EXITS: Found only in certain levels.  Invisible until you collect all
              of the keys.  Once you do, they show up as a ghostly colorless
              version of normal exits.  Touch to enter a hidden level.

Notes:
1. To see what level you're on, press Start to pause the game, and it'll tell
you in the top left corner of the screen.
2. You get the opportunity to save your game every 5 levels.
3. These are one way "I" cleared the levels.  There are multiple ways to
complete many of them.  If you find a truly faster or higher-scoring way to do
one, please e-mail it to me and I will post it in a future version.

Roll around, get the coins, apple and key, and roll to the exit.  Notice that
you can't roll off the edge, so you can only fall to your doom by jumping.

Now you get to jump.  Jump over to each ring of blocks, collect everything,
exit.
Max score: 5000

LEVEL 3

This is your first chance to experience changing which way "up" is.  Just roll
around, get everything, exit.

Note that for the section that's sticking up (compared to the plane you start
on), you can go either on its face or its side, and must do both to get both
keys.  Be sure to jump over the spikes.  Jump to the free-floating island to
get the bananas before you exit.

LEVEL 5
-------
The board you're on is shaped like a "U".  Go down the face with the blue gem
next to you and up the other end.  Get the items on the inside of the U, then
go down the outside on the side that has the other blue gem.  Don't try to
cross the spikes.  Exit on the other face of the U.  If you got all the fruit
up to this point, you will now go to the first bonus level.

LEVEL 6
-------
You have to jump down from the set of blocks you start on.  Look down (R1)
from the starting set to see how far two blocks is from a different height.
On the new set, collect everything you can see, then go to the column with the
exit (still inactive now).  Roll over to the tip of the column, then turn to
the left and go get the fruit, then go back and take the oppostie side of the
column to get the key.  Return to the end of the column, and go back to the
exit.  You shouldn't need the hourglass, but feel free to pick it up for the
points and to see what it does (watch your timer at the top center of the
screen).

LEVEL 7 - HIDDEN LEVEL ACCESS
-----------------------------
Jump ahead twice to get to where the goods are.  Turn right, get the two
coins, go back, turn left, jump over the spikes and roll onto the tip of the
column.  From the tip, turn right and follow the path until you reach the end
of another column.  Keep going straight over the other side to get the fruit,
then come back to the tip of the column and turn left to get the last key.
Backtrack again to that column, turn left and roll onto the top, then left and
jump down to where you started, coincidentally where the exit is.
Hidden level: Once you have both keys, go to the first column you were on, and
on the bottom (from the side you started on), the hidden exit will have
appeared.
Max score: 10915

LEVEL 8

Notice that you start on a column.  Go forward and get what you can, then
return to the column and roll onto the tip.  Go left, get the key, turn around
and roll over to the opposite side.  Follow the path to get the fruit and blue
gem, then jump to the exit.
Max score: 8225

LEVEL 9
-------
Notice that two spikes are next to each other, so you can't jump over them.
When you're on the side with the hourglass, look down over the edge.  Notice
that the blocks beneath you are only one space out horizontally.  So, you have
to jump onto them from one space back from the edge.  Do this from in front of
the spikes, and you'll get the banana on the way down.  Remember this method
of picking up stuff from surfaces you can't cling to.  Get the stuff below,
exit.

LEVEL 10

The first lethargy pills are found here.  They don't give you points and take
away time, but try one just to see.  Avoid them whenever possible from here on
in.  From the platform you start on, look down to see where it's safe to jump
down.  The last jump down to the single column needs to be from 1 space back.
Roll to the other side of the column, then jump back down onto the bottoms of
the ring platforms.  Get the fruit before exiting.  Hey, I just figured out
that the hourglasses give you different points depending on your time
remaining.  Sigh.  Now to go back and update my scores.
Max score: 8940

LEVEL 11
--------
Roll into the gap on the starting platform to get the goodies on the inner
surface.  The fruit is on the bottom surface.  To get down, you have to jump
from the side with the exit so that you fall through the gap.  To get back
from the single-block wide column, you have to jump off either end (with the
platform below you, please) from one space back from the edge.  Use the gap to
get back to the top where the exit is.
Max score: 6000

LEVEL 12
--------
If you look down from where you start, you'll see that the other columns are
more than 2 squares away.  Move to either side suface of your column instead,
and now it's the right distance.  You have to jump back to the starting column
from the second column you land on to get to the third.  Don't exit until
you've collected everything from all sides of each column.
Max score: 11475

LEVEL 13
--------
Jump ahead to get to the long, twisted platform.  To get the fruit, you have
to jump from the side of this platform, then back again.  This level is good
practice for trying different sides of columns to see which one puts you two
squares away for a jump.  The jump to the exit has to be from one square back,
jumping from the 2-block platform, landing you smack on the exit.
Max score: 8880

LEVEL 14
--------
Jump from block to block.  When spikes are in your way, roll to the bottom or
side of the block you're on to get past them.  Collect everything from both
top and bottom of the blocks.  To get the fruit, you have to be on the side of
the exit block closest to the fruit.  Then, just jump once in place,
essentially hitting the fruit with your head.  Roll around to the exit.
Max score: 8500

LEVEL 15
--------
When the block you need to jump to is above you, just roll to the opposite
side of your current platform, and it is now below you.  If a platform is too
far away to jump to, try from the side of your platform.  You should be
getting these skills down now.  Get the fruit from the last platform, off the
L-shaped one.
Max score: 13165

LEVEL 16
--------
Crumbling blocks, fun.  Just don't stop on one until you've got everything
from the top platform.  Roll along destroying them all until you get the key,
then turn around and jump down to the column below.  Get the fruit on its
side.  To get to the exit column, notice that it sticks out farther than the
one you're on at one end.  Land on this end, and get the coins before exiting.
Max score: 8750

LEVEL 17
--------
First, go to the bottom of the platform you're on to get the fruit. Jump,
roll, jump, roll, jump across one side of crumbling blocks, then back up the
other side.  Then, jump-roll-jump across the single pair of crumbling blocks
behind where you started from.  To get to the exit, you have to jump to the
crumbling block above it, then drop straight down with the block.
Max score: 12500

LEVEL 18
--------
Watch your timer; you'll need the hourglass very soon.  The fruit is on the
bottom of the platform you're on.  To get it, roll over one pair of crumbling
blocks to make a column at one end.  Use that to roll to the bottom side and
get the fruit.  Flip back over, roll over the other blocks and jump or drop
down to the other platform.
Max score: 13530

LEVEL 19
--------
Break the crumbling blocks to make a space through which to jump down to the
next platform.  Repeat.  To get back up, jump to the vertical piece of the
middle platform.  Make your way to the exit from there.
Max score: 10365

LEVEL 20
--------
Collapse all the crumbling blocks, rolling along their sides to get to the
corner with the hourglass if you want to wait for time to run down before
collecting it.  The second corner you travel to hides the fruit on
the side opposite the hourglass.  Get it before moving on.  Once all the
blocks are destroyed and you have the key, jump down to the set of columns.
Their lengths all differ by one square at one end, so use this to jump to the
far platform, jumping from one square back from the edge.  Break the last two
crumbling blocks and jump to the exit platform.
Max score: 14895

LEVEL 21
--------
Now you learn that if there is a block in your way during a jump, you will
advance only 1 space and fall straight down.  Before doing this though, roll
to the opposite side of the starting block from the starting position, and
jump onto the column that was in front of you to get the coins on the other
side.  Then return to the starting block, and jump straight into the column in
front of you.  Roll over both sides of the platform you land on, and get the
fruit from the bottom of the exit block before exiting.
MAX SCORE: 10200

LEVEL 22
--------
Notice the captivator behind you; don't let it touch you.  Collect the coins,
then jump to the platform opposite the side with the captivator, and roll over
to its bottom.  Time your jump back to the large platform to avoid the
captivator that glides in front of you.  Go straight, jump to the watermelon,
and roll over to the exit.

LEVEL 23
--------
Like in level 21, don't jump and hit the column in front of you until you've
collected the fruit from its far side.  Now, return to the starting spot and
jump straight ahead after the captivator rises out of the way.  Jump to the
key, and jump again into the column in front of you, avoiding the captivator.
You will land on a pair of crumbling blocks.  Stay still until you hit the
second one, then jump forward (the timing may take a couple of practice runs).
From that block, orient yourself and jump to the exit.
MAX SCORE: 6575

LEVEL 24
--------
First, flip to the other side, jump past the captivator there and get the
hourglass on the bottom, letting your time run out a bit first.  Then, go back
and get the items on top.  When you're in front of the 4 captivators, jump
into the hole in the middle of them to drop onto the platform with keys, and
get only 1 key for now.  Look down from the side with the coins for the end
near the floating single block with the fruit (beside the ring of the main
platform), and jump to it from one space back.  From there, jump onto the side
of the large main platform.  To reach the exit block, roll ahead and jump to
land in the space before the block you started on.  You will drop onto the
exit square, and if you only picked up 1 key like I said, you can get the blue
gem, go back to the large platform, and return to the starting block.  Now go
get the other key and return to the exit by the original route.

LEVEL 25 - HIDDEN LEVEL ACCESS
------------------------------
Get the fruit in front of you, but don't even try to get past those
captivators.  It ain't gonna happen.  Instead, return to the start and flip
over.  Now you can cross the length of the platform, jumping past the
captivators as soon as the next one starts to move away from in front of you.
Once at the other end, get the blue gems from the sides of the platform, then
flip to the first side to get the key.  Flip back and exit normally, or roll
along the side of the platform (the right side if you're facing the normal
exit) to get to the hidden exit.

LEVEL 26
--------
Introduction to boost buttons.  These will launch you 3 spaces ahead in the
direction you're facing.  From the start, use the button to jump to the
platform on the left.  Get everything from all 4 sides, then jump to the last
platform from the end that sticks out horizontally.  Collect the goodies,
avoiding the boosts at first.  Now, go to the end furthest from the exit.
Jump over the hole to the nearest boost and bounce your way to the exit.
MAX SCORE: 11915

LEVEL 27
--------
First, use the boost to clear the spikes, roll around to the key, and use the
other boost to get the other key.  Turn right and jump to the boost, which
will shoot you to the end of the platform.  Roll over the tip to get the coin,
then down the outside of the column for the other coin and fruit.  Once you
have the fruit turn right then roll forward to get boosted back to the main
platform.  Jump ahead to get a boost to the exit.

to the direction you want to go.  When you roll onto the boost button on the
bottom, you'll jump where you wanted to go to.  Go to the column with the exit
first, while it's still inactive, to get the fruit.  When you're on the short
column, don't use the boost button.  Instead, do a normal jump off the side to
land on the side of the column you want to go to next.

Roll over the side that takes you into the center of the platform where the
blue coins and moving spikes are.  When the middle spike is retracting, jump
to it, turn, and jump out quickly.  Get the coins, then jump down to the set
of single blocks below you.  Jump around to get the goods.  From the bottom
side of these blocks, jump to where the missing corner would be.  You'll drop
to a boost button, and if you did it from the right side you'll bounce to the
exit platform.  Don't exit yet.  Instead, jump back to the side of the big

platform, turn right, and wait for the next captivator to approach before

and return to the exit on the starting platform.

This one's complicated to explain.  Turn around and go left at the junction,
avoiding/jumping over the captivator.  At the tip of the column, turn right,
roll ahead one space, then turn around and jump to land on the column with the
exit on it.  From here, jump and slide across each of the three ice arms of
the all-ice platform.  At the end of each arm, you will flip over and slide
back, then jump back to the normal platform at the end.  IMPORTANT: When you
do this, leave one of the three keys there by jumping over it.  Once you've
cleared the three arms, leaving one key there, jump off from the edge of the
column you're on that is nearest the starting platform, to land of the part of
the starting platform that sticks out toward the ice.  Make your way to the
vertical column of the starting platform (vertical relative to the plane of
the rest of the puzzle).  At the base of the vertical column (i.e. where you
could turn the corner to the bottom of the starting platform, or
alternatively, the bottom of the three squares on the back of the vertical
column), jump off so you fall parallel to the spine of the ice platform.  You
will land way down on an invisible block.  Flip to the opposite side, and jump
to the fruit.  You will slide and fall back to the starting platform,
collecting the gems and the last key.  This is the only way to get the gems.
Now, you could go back to the normal exit, or go to the hidden exit that has
now appeared where you made your big jump to the invisible square from, on the
back surface of the vertical arm of the starting platform.

method, and get the first key.  Now, use the center column to cross the puzzle
to the other key, remembering that the center column is too short to use its
boost.  Get the second key, then make your way to the exit.

the main platform (i.e. roll ahead once if you collected the coins counter-
clockwise as directed), and jump to hit the column in front of you and fall
down to the fruit block.  Get the fruit, then flip to the side with the clock.
Turn to face the bulk of the platform while time is paused.  You want to go to
to the left along the main platform next.  Jump off the back surface of this
block to the main platform to get there, roll along the length, straight past
the clock and flip over the tip of the column when you reach it to get the
key.  Continue forward along this pathway until you flip over another column
tip (it's the same one you started on) and continue onward .  To save time,
when you reach the end of the column where you started, jump off the ice patch
to fall down to where you would have rolled to eventually anyway.  After you
flip over one more icy tip, when you reach the single block above you, turn
the corner and turn around and jump to it, then jump to the small platform
with the coins.  Jump back to the single block from the top (the face where
the coins were), then jump again to the corner of the arm of the main
platform.  Once you land on this corner, turn left and jump down, then turn
around to get the key behind where you land.  Continue forward from the key,
follow the path until you can see the last key on the arm to your right.  Get
that key, then turn around and return to the junction, turn right and go to
the end with the exit.

fruit and return to the starting column.  Jump along down each row of solid
blocks to get the coins from top and bottom, using the outside of the blocks
to jump past lethargy pills.  After clearing the second row, jump to the outer
surface of the far platform.  There's a coin on either side of the ice blocks.
Go into the middle inner surface of this platform to get a key, then jump back
to the start by jumping into the space between the ice blocks.    Now, jump
across the row of crumbling blocks starting from the inactive exit to reach
the top of the far platform.  Go around it, and use the ice at the other end
to flip over to the bottom.  To avoid the captivators, jump over them after
they just moved toward you, but don't get trapped in a corner by one.  Jump
back to the start using the other row of crumbling blocks.  The hidden exit is
on the outside of the far single block, where you destroyed the second
crumbling block.

wait to rotate around the ice block again to make sure that the moving block

the gem, then turn around and get the bouncy pill.  3-space jump over the
laser to the yellow button, then jump to the red button when the yellow lasers
are off.  From the red, 3-space jump to the key and come back.  Cross the
platform with all the lasers off to get the fruit and other gem, then go back
and hit the green button only, and do 3 consecutive 3-space jumps from the
button to get to the teleporter.  If you keep hitting the laser, try backing
up to the red button and crossing all the way over from there.  From the
teleporter, jump to the exit.

fruit and jump back, then jump to the right between two boosts.  Now go left

block on the side nearest the F to get the key.  Now, turn around and jump
back to the starting block and down to the word again.  Flip over to the
bottom at the F, and go to the hidden exit under the question mark.

to the vanishing block you used.  Jump to one of the side vanishers from an
arm of the platform you're on, turn to the side to let you drop to the middle
vanishing block, then roll to the side of that block that lets you drop in the
opposite direction you dropped before, to land on the key in the middle of the
4 arrows.  Look around for the fruit floating in space, then take the opposite
direction, roll over the corner and ahead one more space, then turn around and
jump.  You'll land on the fruit.  Flip over and jump back to the main
platform, then collect everything you can find that's worth collecting.  To
get to the exit, go to the arm with the boost on it's end.  It's one of the
arms that goes up from the arrows, and the boost is around the corner from
some spikes.  Boost to the vanishing block and jump to the block with spikes,
and roll forward one face.  Turn left, then jump across the three vanishing
blocks as they appear.  Let the third one vanish under you while you're on its
right side and you'll drop to the exit.

the surfaces.  On the fourth side you touch, including the one you land on,

get the hourglass.  Jump back from the opposite side of this column, then flip
over and jump to the platform with the ice and crumbling blocks.  Break only
one of these on your way across, so you can get back to the exit later.  Jump
to the single block to the side, then jump to hit the platform and fall to the
fruit.  Follow the arrows on that block to the boost.  When you land, take the
other crumbling block to get back to the exit.

the rest without using boosts.  Now, use a boost to get back up to the

captivators as they move around to cross to the other side.  Get the key and
return the same way.  For the other platform, wait until the captivators leave
a free space in the middle, then jump to it.  Wait for a space to appear
across the gap to jump again, then to the far platform and the key.  Go back
the same way and exit.  A hidden exit appears on the lower ring, but I'll be
damned if it's possible to get to it.  My friend Aris has informed me that
this is a glitch in the game particular to the NTCS Roll Away version.  In
face, only in the Japanese Kula Quest version are all hidden levels
accessible (and the correct hidden level for this world in that version is in
level 134).  So unfortunately, all you can do is check your import store, or
just suck it up.

turn and immediately jump over the boost.  Now, jump over the next boost and
roll to the second retracting spike, turn left and jump.  Turn around and jump
over the first boost to get to the other end, get the key, and go back over
the boosts, jumping over the first one again.  Go around the ring you end up
on and use the boost to the platform with the other teleporter.  You land on
fire, so immediately roll ahead once to the green gem and jump to the
teleporter.  Teleport back down, and you can jump to the red gem and turn
around fully while jumping in place then jump back to the corner you came
from.  Teleport up to the top, go to the platform with the captivators again
and exit.

crumbling blocks and jump back down to this platform again.  From its other
end you can jump to the platform with the exit.

space, turn around again and jump back to the starting platform.  Flip over to
the top and use the teleporter you activated.  Roll all the way around the

Now, from the bottom of the starting platform, jump away from the spikes.
Roll down either side and jump to one of the two side 2-block platforms.
Thankfully, one has an hourglass.  The other has the final key.  Once you
collect both, from the middle 2-block platform, jump to the last 2-block
platform and use the green teleporter.  Get the sunglasses to reveal a block
you can use to flip to the bottom and get the fruit.  Flip back over and exit.

go down the length of the puzzle yet, go down the length of the puzzle getting
all the remaining coins.  Turn right at the end, jump over the lethargy pill
and out to the last key.  Jump to the outer edge of the puzzle and go all the
way around to get the fruit, then return to the single block.  Now, on the
bottom of the puzzle, a hidden exit is visible.

right and roll ahead to the blue gem, then go back to the previous tip, turn
right again and go ahead to the coins.  Come back again, and from the last
square before turning onto the tip again, jump ahead back to the starting
platform.  Go straight to the tip, turn left and roll ahead to the key.  At
the end of this row, turn right and jump to collect the red gems.  Turn
around, and roll around this platform, jumping over the lethargy pill.  When
the many coins are above you (i.e. you flipped over after getting the coins
and avoiding the pill), at the end of the long row turn left so that you're
facing an ice patch, then jump.  You're on the starting platform again.  Roll
forward until you're at the end of the row where you can see the fruit ahead
of you, and jump.  You'll get the fruit and fall.  Turn around and get the key
behind you, then turn around again and go forward.  Roll ahead past the exit
until you reach the tip of the column, turn right and go to the square
opposite the exit, i.e. the second corner, turn left and jump to the 4-block
platform.  Roll forward and flip over to find the much-needed hourglass.  Get
the hourglass, and roll forward onto the non-ice tip, turn left and jump.  Get
the coins on all sides.  You're on an "L".  From the inside surface of the L,
roll to the ice end and jump off the ice to land on the "F" with all the
coins.  Get the coins and go up the back of the spine of the F, and jump off
the last square.  Turn around and go forward to the coin, then turn around and
flip back over the ice tip.  Turn right and jump to the platform below, and
get the last key from it's side.  Now go to the non-ice tip and jump to the
side where you can see there's a platform below.  It's the side towards the
exit, which is visible from here.  Get the last coins, then jump to the exit
platform and get out.

platform.  From the end of the platform, jump to the top of the puzzle, to
land on the platform that was 2 spaces above the starting ring.  From the end
you land on, cross the bottom and jump over the middle crumbling block.  When
you hit the ice, you'll flip over to the fruit.  Immediately jump off the ice
to the crumbling block and again to safety.  Get the key, boost, and ride the
ice, jumping when necessary, to the exit.

outside of the ring that you can get to by the path past the hourglass and key
(the path is marked by a yellow coin).  From the square with the fruit, jump
to the vertical row leading up to the captivators, then turn around and get
the other key and hourglass.  To get past the captivators, roll under the
first, then turn right and quickly roll past the rest.  Once you turn the
corner, go to the end of the row and jump to the right, then go and exit.

ride back down the other side.  Flip over, turn the corner and go ahead one
square, then turn around and jump.  Flip over as soon as you land, but this
time jump to the single block with the key, get the key, turn around and jump
back, and jump down the remaining side of the long column from one space back
(when you jump back from the key block, this is the next square to your left).
When you land, roll forward to the tip, turn left, roll forward, turn around
and jump back to the ice.  You'll need at least 24 seconds on the clock when
you jump to the ice to make it back to the exit in time.  Just keep sliding
and jumping until you get there.

Pass the arrows, get the gem and key, then jump again through the space
between red lasers (jump from near the arrow).  Again, flip over and jump off
the moving platform to the side of the ring.  Get the hourglass and from the
same side, jump between the blue lasers.  This time, flip over and jump from
the moving platform along its plane of motion to the single block with the
green buttons.  Jump to either side ring, then make your way to the moving
platform near the ice and crumbling blocks.  Flip over and jump to the
crumbling blocks and roll to the ice.  Jump off the ice to the top of the ring
with the gems.  Collect them, and jump into the middle of the ring to exit.

each row remains.  Follow the arrow back to the starting position.  Go up the
wall again and flip over to the other side.  Go to the end of this row,
turn left and roll onto the first crumbling block, letting yourself drop from
there onto a key.  Turn around and go to the free tip of the column, from
where you can now go to all surfaces of the platform.  Get the fruit, gems,
and whatever else you can find without breaking any blocks, then return to
this tip.  Use the crumbling blocks that you previously left intact to reach
the second key, then use the free tip again to get to the inner surface of the
mostly still-complete ring.  Roll up the crumbling blocks, stopping on the
last one to drop to the exit.  There's still one crumbling block left, but who
cares? You made it!

Tricky.  I haven't got all the coins and gems yet.  However, reader R. Agsten
says that he has, and here's how he did it:
   "Time is your worst enemy here. From the start, turn around and roll to the
edge. Jump to the left and approach the moving spikes. Jump on the corner ones
to get across, getting a gem in the process. Go forward until you reach the
dizzy pill. Jump over it and get the coin there. Reverse and return to where
there's a blue gem to the left. Jump left to fall through it. Turn around and
color all the blocks there. Go back to where the gem was and go forward to a 4-
way intersection, getting some coins. Turn right and, leaving one spike-sided
block uncolored, go around the ring to get the coin and return to the 4-way.
Turn around and go forward 3 squares (changing faces on the third). Jump to the
left. Get the gem behind you and reverse. Go forward (leave that one square
alone!) to the crumbling blocks. Use the 1st and 3rd ones to cross to the other
side. From thew tip of the column, go down the left side for a coin and return
to the tip. From this orientation, go down both the left and right sides of the
column to clear that ring of coins. From the tip again, cross the last
crumbling block back to the other side and go forward until you run out of
coins. Return to where you can jump to the bottom of the "spiked" ring and jump
to it. Here's your last coin and block.
   It's hard to do all of that within the 100 second time limit, but it must be
done. I had about 7 seconds to spare. You can do it!"  Thanks a bundle, friend.

solid block, you can get the coin if you jump onto the side of the crumbling
blocks and immediately turn and jump to the side of the solid block, but this
leaves 2 crumbling blocks.  This alternative gives you slightly more points,
though.  What might be best is, jump to the second solid block as normal, then
back to the column of crumbling blocks, but this time jump to land way down on
the exit block to get the coin.  Jump back using the side of the crumbling
blocks, quickly turning and jumping to make your way to the other solid
blocks, finally returning to the exit block.  This still leaves one crumbling
block, though.

Japan release, Kula Quest, is the only version in which you can play the

THE FINAL - LEVEL 151

This puzzle is mostly made up of two similar platforms, each made of a long
spine and three ribs on either side that bend inward.  The two platforms are
near-mirror images of each other, but one has shorter ribs.  From start, turn
around and go to the tip of the column.  Go to either side and roll all the
way around the platform to get all the coins.  Note that the tips of the ribs
are icy.  When you're done going around, get the hourglass that was ahead of
you at start, and keep going to the end of the spine and flip over to the
bottom.  From the end of any rib, jump to the rib of the other big platform.
Go to either end of the spine and roll around the side of the platform again
to get the gems, then get the hourglass from the bottom of this platform.  To
get to the floating short columns, go around either side of the platform
again.  When you get to the middle rib, jump off the ice patch on its tip.
When you land, go to the side so you can jump to the short column with the
boosts, and boost to the far single block.  Get the key and boost back from
either side.  Now, go to either side of the column with boosts and jump to a
side column, then from the tip of that, jump to the back of the large platform

side.  Jump to the gem, ride the ice around and jump back.  Repeat on the
other side.  Now jump from either tip of the platform you're on to the ice,
and jump across to the far side, then back down the other side.  Now, on the
right side when facing the puzzle from where the hourglass was (or maybe still
is) near the start, jump across the ice but jump to fall in a gap so you land
on the solid row below.  I'll call this the main platform.  Go forward to the
end and jump to the single block on the left from the appropriate side.  Jump
over the retracting spikes and up the wall all the way, then jump to the
single block ahead.  You can't jump straight to the key, so look where the
platform it's on turns to the side, and jump to that segment, then get the
key.  Jump down to the ice and drop to the main platform again.  Get the
hourglass by the exit, you should be needing it soon.  Go to the pair of
crumbling blocks on either side and break them on your way across.  Now, you
want to jump off this short platform from one space back from the edge to fall
along the ice-normal-ice platform, picking up the keys on one side, and land
on the short platform on the other side.  Repeat if necessary, and end up on
the side with the crumbling blocks intact.  Use these to return to the main
platform, and exit.

and keep going up to the ceiling to take the green teleporter.  You can take
the blue teleporter from here, but all it gets you is a way back to start.
You can also go to the exit now, or you can slide around and pick up points
first.  You'll need them to survive longer in the next levels.  To max out
your points on the hourglasses, wait until you have 2 seconds left to slide to
one, then jump over the other on the way back around, then wait for your time
to elapse and go get the second one.

I hate this one.  It's all one column twisted around, and you have to roll
around on each of the four sides to get everything.  When you reach an
hourglass, wait for your timer to run down before picking it up, because you

the hourglass.  Wait for the captivator you encounter to come back towards you
before jumping over it.  From the hourglass, go up the wall 4 spaces, then
jump to the left.  Go forward to a key, 2 captivators and some coins.  Keep
going a bit until you can see the inactive exit down to the left, and jump
left to the side of the exit.  Turn around and start following the path, skip
the hourglass for now, and continue until you get a long row of coins and
gems.  Turn around and go back to the hourglass, and pick that up.  Turn
around again, and go to the end of the row, where it turns downward.  Jump to
the right, and proceed ahead for as long as it takes to get a few coins and
the last key, by the exit.

A bunch of separate columns with boosts at one end of each.  You've
encountered these before, and there aren't any surprises.  From start, turn
left and go down to the boost.  When you land, turn right and jump down to the
next column and go forward to the end with the gem.  Get the coins from all
sides.  You want to go to the short column with the hourglass beside you next.
Get the hourglass and go to the non-boost end.  Now you have time to get some
keys.  Go to the corner column with a key nearest you, then two columns over
to the next nearest key, passing by the exit.  Continue to the next corner
column, which has an ice patch on it.  Keep going around the outside two more
columns to the last one with coins.  Get them, then to the next corner column
with the last key.  This column also has an hourglass, which is good since you
need it now.  The boost end of this column in one block shorter than the
others, so don't use the boost or you'll fall.  Instead, jump off the top end
from one space back, then roll to the non-boost end of that column.  You can
now see where the exit is.  Go to it by whatever means you prefer.

around and activate the red button.  Jump back to the single blocks, not the
boost.  From the top of the non-boost single block, jump to the fire on the
ring, quickly turn right and jump to hit the boost block and fall to the
teleporter below, which will bring you to the exit.

the ice below.  Take the direction that lands you on the inactive exit first,
then flip over and return the same way to get the sunglasses on the bottom of
the ring.  Then go in the other direction to get to the key, flip over and
return, and go to the exit one last time.

platform, then move to the top of that platform, and jump to the platform in
the middle of the ring.  Turn around and go to the key, then turn around
again.  Go ahead to the first tip, then go to the side without spikes.  From
there, jump right over the ring to land on the platform beyond.  Flip to the
opposite side, and go to the opposite end from the exit.  From the second
square on that end, jump over the ring to land on the platform on the other
side.  Get the stuff and flip over to the teleporter, use it.  Get the gems on
the other little platform lined up with yours, then jump through the gap to
land on the exit platform.

opposite the starting one.  Get the stuff then jump from the spot where the
key was, out to the 2-block platform where the laser originates and get the
red gem on its tip.  Jump back to the platform you just left and jump to the
boost to get back to the start.  If you haven't got the hourglass yet, let
your time run out and do so.  From the middle of the top of the starting block
(the same plane as the boost button on the single block), jump to either end
to fall to the platform below.  Get the 2 coins, then jump to the other
similar platform and get the 2 coins there.  From the block by the ice patch,
jump into the gap between the platforms to a single block, then to the next
small platform with the hourglass.  From the side with 2 coins, you can jump
to the moving platform.  When you do, immediately turn around and roll over to
the tip to avoid the lasers.  Go to the other end when you can and look at the
other moving platform.  Move to the spot on your platform where you can jump
to that other moving platform, and do so when your platform is at the end of
its motion, so that you're right next to the lasers.  Jump to the other
platform, then to the exit.  Gratefully save your game now.

of the two crumbling blocks, and immediately jump again to land on the other
platform with the teleporter.  Get the stuff and go to the side so that you

Activate the red button, get the gem, and jump back to the teleporter
platform.  Teleport to the starting platform, and jump to the moving platform
as before, but without using the crumbling block this time.  Now, roll forward
to the first tip, turn around and jump to the remaining crumbling block when
the moving platform is at its high point, immediately jump again and get
boosted to the last key and goodies.  From here, jump way down the exit
platform, to land on the part that sticks up.  Get the coins and exit.

Get the coin, then jump to the single crumbling block and drop.  Go around and
get the goods here.  Once you get the stuff around the ring, including the
hourglass, go up the long row, turn the corner and advance one more square,
then turn around and jump to the crumbling block and drop to the main
platform.  Go the opposite side and jump back to the inactive exit again, then
jump to the long arm of this platform.  Go down a side of the arm to the top
of the ring (opposite the exit) and jump off the corner to the single block
with the key.  Flip over and jump to the exit.  The last crumbling block is
unattainable, so far as I can ascertain.

appears, hit that block and fall to the vanishing block below, quickly flip to
the opposite side and jump in place to get the key, then fall to the
teleporter, which will take you to the exit.  Sorry, but the gems are just to
tease you.  If you go to them, you'll never get off again.

the max score I came up with was 24065. I achieved by using a little trick
while getting the second key (on the gem ring). The trick is this: After
jumping up to get the key, do a quick jump forward from that same [hopefully
still there] vanishing block and you should grab one of the gems. It takes
several attempts to get the feel of it. You can then jump down to the
teleporter from where you land. Now you get the last laugh at the game's
teasing you."

teleport back, then get to the 2-block platform to the left.  Go down the far
side of that platform, and jump to the row of ice along the outside of the
main platform, so that the single block is above you.  Slide until you reach
the coin on a normal square, then turn around and jump to the single block.
Go to the top of the block and jump to the gems.  Jump or fall off the end to
land on the inactive exit.  Turn around, get the hourglass when your time is
low, turn around again when you reach a normal square, and jump off the end of
this platform.  Double jump along the gaps back to the single block with
spikes, and jump to the normal square on the column tip where the coin was.
Slide forward until you reach the normal square on the side of the teleporter,
go forward more to flip over, keep going forward and jump off the end of the
ice row to reach the invisible block.  Go to the yellow teleporter you used
before, and use it again.  Jump down off the back of the single teleporter
block to the vertical column, then go back up the column and jump to slide

the bottom of the starting platform and use one crumbling block to get to the
boost block, and jump to the next platform to get to the green teleporter.
Use it, activate the yellow button, and teleport back.  Jump toward the ice
block and over to the far platform.  Get the gem, then use the ice to flip to
the top, get the gem and key there, then use the ice to flip to the bottom
again.  Now, jump to the ice and jump off to fall to the outside of the big
ring, turn around and get the hourglass, and roll around to the far side.
From one space back from the edge on the side with the coins, jump to the
small ring with the key and pick it up (it's the ring on the side with the

only green turned on.  Jump on the yellow button so it's turned off, then roll

go to the tip of the column.  Roll down either side all the way to the green
teleporter again, use it.  Take the ice slide again, turn around and slide
back, and jump off the last ice square to fall in the hole again.  Go to the
back of the short platform you land on, and jump to the side from the non-ice
end to land far below.  cross the ice block and jump to the 2-block platform,
and jump from the tip to hit the ice and fall to the column that had goodies
on all 4 sides.  Clear the remaining two sides, picking up the first key.
From the side that had the key, jump away from the green lasers to land on the
yellow button.  Turn yellow off again, roll to red, turn that off again, jump
to green, jump over the boost to turn on red, turn around, jump to green, turn
off green, turn around and boost over the red laser.  Flip over the column and
take the red teleporter to get the other key.  On the surface of the column
with the arrow, jump to the side from the non-arrow end.  Cross the ice patch
on the platform you land on, jump to the nearby platform, and look for the
spot where you can jump to the crumbling block by the inactive green laser
emitter.  Jump to the crumbling block and very quickly turn left and jump into
the wall to land on the laser emitter.  Go to the nearby 3-block platform with
the red lasers, and from there jump to the exit platform.

Time trial: Replay the arcade mode levels, but going for time, not points.
Target times (par) for each level are predetermined, and your time in relation
to par is added to your total score (e.g. if you finish five levels each 10
seconds below par, your total score will be -50 seconds).  If your total score
goes over par, you cannot continue to the next level.  Collecting fruit in
this
mode gives you a time bonus.

----- 2 PLAYER -----

Copycat: Player 1 makes two moves.  Then player 2 makes the same two moves and
adds two more.  Player 1 then makes those four moves and adds two more, and so
on until one person makes a wrong move or dies.  Best out of 20 wins.

Time trial: Players take turns doing the same puzzle, and whoever does it
faster wins that round.  Players take turns going first.  Best out of 14 wins.
Collecting fruit gives you a time bonus.

1. Check your score before saving your game.  If your score is low, you won't
be able to die many times before it's game over, and you have to reload from
an earlier point.  Sometimes it's better to go back and do the last set of 5
levels over again once you know how to solve them, to save up points for
future stumpers.

2. Pause the game frequently if you're not sure how to proceed.  The level
rocks around a lot, but lets you see the whole puzzle at once.  This is
especially useful in levels with sunglasses.  Once you collect the sunglasses,
pause the game and all the invisible blocks will be visible while the puzzle
rolls around.

3. Let your timer run out before picking up an hourglass.  You get more points
for it the less time you have left, and it gives you the maximum amount of
time to do the rest of the level or find the next hourglass.  Whatever you do,
don't pick up an hourglass if your timer is less than halfway run down, as
this cuts the time you have left short.

4. The only good use for lethargy pills is to run your time down faster before
picking up an hourglass.  If you collect more than one lethargy pill without
letting the effect of each wear off before getting the next one, your timer
will only be accelerated for 15 seconds after getting the last one.

5. To check for hidden level exits, pause the game once you've collected all
of the keys on a level, then watch the board as it swings around.  If there is
one, it won't be too hard to spot.

Remember that these level numbers refer to the level's position within the
appropriate world.  So for, say, level 69, input 0004 into the 2 codes in 1),
then 0008 into the code in 2), since 69 is the ninth level in world 4.

If you want to continue from the level you jump to, you may need to turn off
the cheats once you reach the desired level.

One final note from Aris: "One very strange thing is that if you place in code
2 another value than those that I listed before you play one VERY strange
level, which is very easy, but it has all the elements of the game
concentrated!!! I guess that you can play this level if someone locates all
the secret levels and all the fruits..."  Anyone encounter this?  UPDATE: Aris
found that this level is actually the training level normally only accessible
in the Japanese release of the game (Kula Quest).
