Question Details

  1. How many original PlayStation games are black labels before they became green label greatest hits? A utube guy explains that some black labels are rarer but some green labels are rarer depending on how many were sold. Is it 1 million black labels, 2 million, 5 million, 10, before it becomes a greatest hits?

  1. Literally all PS1 games were released in black label, it's basically the PS1's standard version. Among all PS1 games, only a small minority eventually hit the greatest hits/platinum mark and became such. Dunno about the greates hits but a game could turn platinum by selling around 400.000 copies in 1 year since release (it may seem like a low number but back in the PS1 days the gaming market was a lot different and companies didn't pursue insane selling targets as they do now, 400.000 in one year was quite the achievement).

That said, greatest hits/platinum versions in general are easier to find than their black label counterpart due to having been print aplenty for cheaper and sold for cheaper to spread them as much as possible. The only versions I can imagine could be rarer than black label could be some specific "in house" greatest hits lines such as EA Classics or Best of Infogrames.

  2. Is there a specific source you got this knowledge from, the 400,000 copies? I'm glad to hear this though I thought it'd be more like a million, just ordered black label Resident evil 2 ps1. But the utube guy I mentioned also pointed out that everyone is throwing away their green label greatest hits copies and so those are becoming rare. Any take on this?
