Hideo Kojima's original idea for Otacon was of a stereotypical overweight nerd that was always seen eating something. However, this was changed after art director Yoji Shinkawa came up with a design for a skinner version of Otacon that ended up being used in the game. Due to this change Hideo also drastically changed the personality of the character.
