Super Mario 64 and Jumping Flash episode 2: Enter the clones!

Star Wars: episode 2 is just around the corner so that is my excuse for my tagline. Attack of the clones is a good theme for today's review. Jumping Flash, Sonic 3D and Super Mario 64 originally started off as the original 3D platform games, and it come's to no surprise that several million clones start to come out, and most of them fall flat on their face. Because Croc is one of the first copies of the recent originals, does it dfall flat on it's face? or is it a bargain at twice the price?

The levels are just right for a 3D platform game. Sure, they aren't as huge as Super Mario 64, as funny as Conker's Bad Fur Day or as hard as Rayman 2 but Croc does have it's days. With many obsticals, both old and new like jumping over lava, place blocks on top of each other and running through prison doors.

The downfall of fun levels which doesn't make the levels actually ''fun'' is Croc himself. He is AWFUL to control. Instead of running around like a dream on well made 3D platform, Croc handles like Lara Croft on the Dreamcast. You see, you run foward by pressing foward, but to turn, you usually stop automatically and change direction, which is really annoying! Other moves Croc performs are quite good though, for example the stop, jump and attack, but we have seen it all before but it is the easiest thing about Croc.

The aim of Croc is to rescue trapped Gobo's. These little creatures are all locked in cages, which you must find keys to free them with. Finding each and every Gobo is vital to completing the game!

Croc's story is about a young crocodile adopted by the Gobo's. The Gobo's train Croc up to be kind, and not to hurt his friends. When an evil come's and kidnaps the Gobo's for his own evil purposes, it is up to Croc to go and rescue the Gobo's!

Bonus levels play a role in Croc. In the bonus levels, you never know what awaits you. It could be just another level. It could be a mini-game like guessing what box an item is under. Pure fun!

The graphics are that of a typical playstation game. They are a little bit blocky is some places, but the backgrounds, effects of lava, animations are pretty neat!

I am very fond of the music in this game. The world map theme where you chose your levels is childish, and has the old amiga feel which pleases the ears.

Croc is an enjoyable platform game for the Playstation, and the only thing which let's the game down is the gameplay, and that seems to be it. If extra work was put in to the control of Croc, then this game could have got full marks.

- The graphics, music, levels and the amount of fun
- Good story

- Getting Gobo's might seem boring after awhile
- The control system is not exactly good...
